Wanted to let all the ST heads know (esp those who cannot make it out to Columbus, OH on Oct. 14-16) that Season’s Beatings is supporting ST to the highest level possible again this year.
We’ll have two stations – four linked H2H candy cabs setups – all weekend long, from Friday to Sunday, and we are streaming the $50 high-stakes tournament Saturday morning (starting 11 a.m. EST).
If you can’t make it, tune in to the stream and cheer the new school and OGs alike to prove WHY we still play a game that’s now almost 20 years old and still the best game out there (well besides Real Marvel but you’re free to argue that with me).
I’ll post the stream link Friday night. We are doing some kind of ST event run by me and Damdai Fri night, and 3v3 teams on Sunday, but we can stream/record the entire 3/5 high-stakes tournament Saturday morning.
I hope many of you will watch and are as excited as I am to be able to make it happen.
That’s what I called “Godlike entertainment”. Sorry Ghaleon, as I told nomrah on ggpo I couldn’t make it out to OH again this year. But SB is the only out of state tournament that I am looking forward to go.
SRK used to have front page posts about upcoming tournaments few weeks in advance and then another reminder a week prior. How come there is no mention of SB in the fp?
Good luck btw.
PS : Somebody in the US have to stop damdai from winning
The high rollers tourney will be on the stream! Damn I am going to get bodied in front of thousands of people watching all around the world, but it’s going to be worth it! I can’t wait!

I want to thank all the ST players for showing up and supporting. Ghaleon and I will ALWAYS support ST and you can expect to see it in all of our events in some fashion.
We’re open to any feedback that you have. What does the community think of the $50 entry fee? I did see some ST heads there that did not enter due to the price point. What’s the magic number?
ST runs fast enough to consider holding both a standard $10 and a high-roller $50 or more. You could also consider a teams high stakes. So long as you and Ghaleon keep doing what you’re doing with ST, you’ll get turnout
Damdai - whatever. you luckily managed to win 6 straight rounds. i was sooooo close to taking that set, you don’t even know! hopefully see you at Evo '12, punk!
SpiderCarnage - hey very nice meeting you mate. hopefully see you in Vegas as well.
Ghaleon/Nomrah - thanks again for hosting. i’ll play for whatever so the $50 is good but i would have no complaints if it dropped to $20-$30. i honestly doubt you’d see a huge influx of new entrants anyway so it’s nice to have the larger prize pool
Jizzon - how is Korea my brotha? i tried my best but alas i’ll be back at future SB events and hopefully Evo to go for 1st place instead!
This is a debate that has been going on for a little while now. Lower the entry fee and get more entries (though probably only a small number more) or go high rollers and have a small but more hardcore tournament?
There are good and bad points for either way you go. At ReveLAtions we had probably 7-8 more players at the venue who was considering entering (and who knows how many more who weren’t there) but I think the entry fee kept them away. It was only $20 +$5 venue fee (if you weren’t registered in any of the main tournaments) but $10 vs $20-25 can be significant, especially if you’ve already paid $50+ dollars for the main tournaments.
At EVO, I think you can get away more with a high roller type of entry fee because it’s EVO. But there were still players who stayed away because of the entry fee.
Also, consider that the offline ST community is slowly dwindling away here in the US, with most GGPO players rarely showing up to tournaments so realistically, probably only 3-4 players really have a legitimate shot at winning, and that’s including any guest Japanese players who decide to enter. So asking the community to keep paying higher and higher entry fees, seems like a bad idea to me, unless you start making the payouts deeper. Most of the hardcore players will keep paying it but I still think trying to get any kind of new blood into the game is always good.
And even though the numbers will be small either way you do it, and I’m in no way trying to bash SB because that was a great tournament, but even a 30-40 man tournament sounds much better than a numbers in the teens.
Having a secondary event is a good idea but I’m not sure having two single player tournaments with different entry fees is a good idea. Some tournaments already do this but having lower entry fee team tournament, for example and preferably on a Friday (Sat = main ST tournament Sunday = finals for the main tournaments and it’s not always possible to run events on Sunday such as EVO.) It’s a more fun and casual atmosphere, good warmup/practice for the next day and maybe a good recruiting tool for the main ST tournament.
And I agree with Papasi, $20-30 is probably the optimal fee to use and DEEPER PAYOUTS. There was one player who won $10 at EVO (for 9th place) and he was so happy. I think even the smallest prize can go a long way to give someone a great feeling about the tournament.
