SSFIV in Washington Arcade?

Again, someone told me that people here have a good relationship with the owner. I am willing to put my time and money in adjusting the arcade parts and displacement to more of a TE layout which we all are accoustumed to and 90% of us play on in tournament.

I already have a solution to the joystick which took a little of tinkering with my own parts. THe buttons and layout would need for me to get a hands on and I would have to solve the problems and design a replacement. I think with Namdar’s help it would be pretty easy to accomplish. I just need for those with a good relationship to the owner to pitch the idea to him.

I miss you, Brent. Where you been?

i miss you troy. where you been all my life?

I used to go to the cab they had at Gameworks almost everyday after work, would try and get people together for happy hour ect. I really really hope that we get a cab SOMEWHERE. Willing to travel and I know I’m not alone I am dying to see a thriving arcade, however I know this will be dependent on wait times… aka get a couple cabinets I’m sure there will be positive outcome.

He wouldn’t need to buy a new cab, all he needs is some bondo to fill in the holes, put vewlix layout & buy japanese stick/buttons.
$25 x 2 Stick
$3 x 12 Buttons
$10 Plexi
$20 Bondo

So about $100…

Or just cut out a new control panel to place on top.

They have a showcase cab right?

I’m actually going to chip my 2c in here real quick and state that I prefer American style sticks and Japanese style buttons (Moreso Sanwa).

That control panel is already routed for Happ, they would have to completely start from scratch and reroute the panel to get a JLF to mount properly on a wooden CP with a plexi overlay, it isn’t nearly as easy as bondo-ing the buttons to add a curved layout.

Also I have talked to Bill before and he said that his techs are not familiar enough with Japanese controls to re-do the CP for that showcase cab (I asked this over a year ago ). It might be possible for one of his techs to buy two pre-populated japanese control panels and somehow affix them to the showcase cab. But those CPs are around 150 each, you would need two of them, and then pay a tech to heavily modify the showcase cab, while it is not able to draw in money at acme, then spend time (money) to move the cab from the workshop back into the arcade.

it is not worth the headache to convert the Showcase to japanese controls. I would settle for American controls if the buttons were not 8 feet away from the stick.

If the panel is made of Wood I’m 100% positive I can re-fit it for japanese controls.

the wood on the current cab is too thick. you would need to use a (router?) to cut a square for stick and circles for buttons. it needs to be very thin.
or somehow fabricate a metal panel or a piece of plexi thin enough to mount the parts.

if I could get the specifications on the panel I can come up with an easy fix. If it’s less than 2" it’ll be quite easy.

All you would need is get the dimensions of the top of the control panel, then have it cutout. You wouldn’t need to remove the cab from the store. Put a new top w/ vewlix button style & route it for japanese controls & then your done. Add some artwork if you want underneath the plexi. Its just like making an arcade stick.

Carlos, here is the mounting specs for most joysticks fighting gamers care about in case you can use it:

Here is the specs for the layout for vewlix (scroll down to the pic):

Also your signature applies about 10x more to SFIV and SSFIV than HDR.

A lot of people would be willing to settle for American sticks to play the game. You could install an old Atari joystick in the cab, and people will still line-up out the door to play until a better option comes along; but once Gameworks gets the update and starts offering that better option by providing the preferred controls, the competition will migrate there as well and then it will become the standard spot again.

To make it worth the purchase, ACME has to become the standard place for people to show up and expect regular competition with the ideal controls. I know there is a barrier to installing them due to the current setup of the cab, but I think with all of the experience and know how of the collective community, we could definitely find a solution that will make it reasonable.

I am usually against ideas based around monetary community contributions in the FGC, but even if we all agreed to have a giant party around the arrival of the cabinet, and everyone agreed to pitch in, say, $5 minimum towards playing on the first day as a celebration, we could have an amazing and memorable session of playing the new game, build some hype around the community, get some great video’s and pay for all the alterations in the first day alone. Everyone could come with a minimum $5 for themselves, or if we wanted to do something fun, we could throw it in a big pot, throw 400 quarters into the machine right away and see how many times we could get the credit counter to go up to 99. It would make a pretty awesome picture, and we could have people hold a number to keep track of the rotation, which will likely be necessary anyway.

And now, we have two great setups in the NW, and we help Bill establish ACME as a great place to come for SF and get competition. If we figure out the cost, we could set a goal and shoot for it and start towards making the cab profitable the first day. It would do a lot more good for the community than throwing $5 or $10 dollars down on a tournament would.

It isn’t reasonable to expect that people will be willing to continually make a compromise on the equipment when paying a dollar, and when a better option is available not far off. We need to take some steps to make sure that it gets done right.

its bills responsibility.
ive talked to him about sticks when vanilla came out and he didnt listen then. (im sure numerous others have talk to him also)

new controls are a small investment with little risk. but in the end its his choice, i hope he listens this time.

We’re probably beyond this but a machine at Acme in Southcenter would be great, just on the merit Acme is about a 5 minute drive from my house. :stuck_out_tongue:

They need to make evil Dhalsim already with stretchy shoryuken. 6 new characters? I’d prefer to just have the changed game some where other than Japan already <- Impatient/Salty/Thinks Capcom has no idea what they are doing with this release.

Why? The last release on that platform was in July 2008 with only 17 playable characters and 2 unplayable boss characters. Now the game has 20 new characters 2 new hidden boss characters, possibly time release characters, a few new stages, completely revamped card system, and to top it off Capcom took a huge risk just making an arcade port. But they were nice enough to listen to fan demands and give us (Japan primarily) an updated arcade release that will be exclusive for a few months at the least. I’m pretty sure Capcom knows what they’re doing.
