SSFIV AE 2012 ALL character changes (FINAL )

If your reactions are on point no he can’t. Cammy is one of a few characters who can easily punish ALL of Bison’s escape options.

random question folks, but when is the 2012 version dropping?

In 6 days…

chuns footsies are better, and i forgot onis kara. yeah he’s third, gen is 4th.anyway my point was that gen and chun are different enough that i wouldnt compare them in a way that says this character does this play style better

in current AE i think gen is better than guy, gouken, hawk, hakan, dan, dudley, fuerte, and deejay. he’s at least as good as oni.

that number will be smaller in 2012 even tho gen got buffs because i feel his buffs dont help him that much in his bad matches. where other characters got buffs that directly effect their matches with gen. stuff like doing more dmg, more health, improved normals etc.

i think a lot of people jumped away from gen prematurely in the sense that they didnt take a moment to see what was left. most of the players just wanted to use mk hands loops, and when those were gone, they gave up exploring the other tools gen had. cant blame them. vanilla gens mk had about as much range as chuns fierce and came out in 5 frames. broken ground control.

we have had more than one gen come back and admit to giving him up too soon. not that gen wouldnt have still been low tier, but when is the last time any of the gen players who dropped him in super have done anything with the newer better characters. i mean gen beats hawk when you dont play the match like vanilla gen. many of them gave up sf4 as a whole after that

I think there were a lot of solid characters in AE that just got overshadowed by YYF. Hopefully with YYF climbing down the ladder a bit it’ll encourage more people to try them out.

Bison CAN escape stuff. There’s no OS that simultaneously covers EX Devil, EX Headpress, EX Psycho, EX Scissors, Backdash, Teleport Back and Teleport Foward. Usually, you have to chose. Sometimes, OSing some options for Bison opens your guard against others.

AE balance was underrated. A few at the top skewed it, but from ~7 to 20-25 there was a tight tier. Tokido said AE was more balanced than SS and now we’re getting an even further tightening of the tiers and without an obvious top few, we should theoretically see more diverse tournies. I say theoretically, bc those who switch away from their AE mains will switch back to their SS. Why switch to a Cody or any other character when your current or previous main is just or almost as good and you know him/her inside and out? I think we’ll see the AE trend with players switching in the beginning, but most of the consistent top placers will stay/switch back to their original mains before the '12 ala JWong and ROrtiz.

Yeah that’s the thing, you can deal with at most accounting for a few at once. There’s just so many other characters out there that are easier to set up on.

This is why I said if reactions are on point. I wan’t even bothering with OS’s and to be honest Cannon Spike deals with the greater majority of those options except teleport and maybe backdash. The only difference is when the spike has to be done.

I agree, I always felt that the middle section of AE was very equal, but part of that could also have simply been the fact there was less players so less information and techniques being discovered. The top handful of characters just sort of ran away with the game. While I think that outside of these characters the game WAS more balanced than SSF4, I also think that even without those handful the zoners and charge characters that got majorly nerfed in AE (sim/guile/ect) would have a hard time against the still strong rushdown game that would be presented by characters like Ibuki, Adon, and Sakura. I think there will end up being a definitive top tier in 2012 (I really feel Sagat and Akuma will be arguably the A+ tier characters) but I also think that the sheer amount of discussion beyond those 2 characters has shown that unless someone finds something amazing that was left out of changelogs we will have the most balanced itteration of SF4 yet with the largest viable cast of tournament worthy characters.

I see these chars showing up in tournaments a lot more:

Cammy
Cody (I think he MIGHT drop off after a few months but he’ll be showing up more than he ever did in AE even after the drop off in favor of other safer characters.)
Seth (PoongKo has unlocked Seth for the world and shown he is a character with a ton of potential and has obviously influenced a lot of Jap players.)
Ken
Ryu
Sakura
Dhalsim (I think a lot of sim mains will come back now that the twins and fei are toned down)
Abel
Adon
Juri
E. Ryu

I think that Makoto, Zangief, and Honda will all still show up on a fairly regular basis in 2012 just like they did in AE, but I don’t think they will INCREASE in number or decrease in number unless one of em wins a major. The chars are simply too oriented towards specialists, and will always sort of “be there” but never POPULAR.

Thats a really good post, makes a lot of sense and a great list of potential new tops as well.

I am going to add that the LG banner ad at the top of SRK is going to be S+ Tier.

Incredible mouse footsies, whiff punishing and control of space, as well as an Ultra sonic attack that catches my bosses attention and causes him to ask, “What are you working on?”

loses 0-10 to ad block pro

the complex media toolbar on the bottom however…

Goes 0-10 to NoScript

Can be blocked using Adblock+, but requires you to open the console.

how?? that shit is pissing me off & i can’t get rid of it

“Open blockable items” on the dropdown. Go nuts.

Back to the changes, after watching many of the videos not much has changed at all. Still feels like most matchups are solidified, but I’m also waiting for SCR.

I feel that since it isn’t on console yet, the lesser played characters haven’t had a chance to be tested. I think once that free training room opens up on Tuesday a lot more will be discovered.

Basically what Reipin said is on point. Unless there was a BLATENTLY huge change or arguably overpowered character than it is going to take some exploring for matches to start showing a difference.

The patch hasn’t even hit consoles yet, many tournaments have people playing with only a handful of hours with the 2012 changes and they are of course going to stick with what they know works rather than suddenly switching it up into unknown territory.

With how quickly information spreads now in the fighting community and how many tournaments are being streamed, I think the time to find information will be lessened but it certainly isn’t going to be instant. Give it about 2 months before we start seeing anything significant in the way of changes to matchups and characters.

Giefs SHP IS a HARD KD, nice!
