Is Juri gonna be good in AE v12? What does everyone think? Is she gonna be worth it? I think her and Viper only make SF4 worth learning and having fun.
Because Akuma is #1 and beats everybody.
Now, jokes aside, I also think Akuma beats Ken.
He can zone him out pretty decently and he has tons of mixups to make his wakeup DPs whiff or to outright stuff them. Ken also has a lot of trouble punishing teleports hard (only U2 is really viable and even then, Akuma with U2 has free teleports against ken all day, unless you just abuse it and the ken player reads it, but any character can do this) and his terrible walk speed doesn’t help much in footsies vs a fast character like Akuma. He can easily stay out of f.mk range and punish whiffs with fs.hk for a full combo. Akuma also has quite a few corner shenanigans that Ken has trouble getting out of.
I don’t think akuma trashes ken or anything, but I feel he wins the match.
No way Ken is gonna be #1 in ver.2012, lol. I don’t even know how people can think this. Are you guys blind or something? Seth is MILES better than Ken, even if he supposedly has tons of bad matchups + low health + everything you want. Wake up guys.
Also Akuma and Viper are still much better than Ken.
C’mon mate,. I think KenZo’s reactions to Ken’s buffs have got you a little too excited lol… I said before AE2k12 went live that if Ken had his 7f sweep + his buffs he would’ve been Top 3 in 2012… and KenZo’s reactions pretty much assure me that would’ve been the case. As of now he’s probably near Top 5, just depends on any stealth buffs or not.
Tier lists are also a metagame thing. Some chars were behind Y/Y/F, some had bad matchups against them, they will become viable again.
You can consider Y/Y/F’s common characteristics: safe rush down for free. So AE2012 will see less of that, and more of the rest. What could be successful ? Vortex rushdown (akuma, viper, seth), Stupid damage (Sakura, Honda), Zoning time (Sim, Guile, Sagat, Ryu), Grappling fun (Gief, Hawk, Hakan), Solid solidity (Dic, Boxer)…
Imho vortex just ignores the opposition, so will maintain high tier. Rush down being nerfed, zoning will shine again, much to the distress of grapplers.
Stupid damage can bullshit their way to good placement, but not reliably. And I’ll say it, Sakura is the heavy hitter of AE2012.
I think people are getting confused with the term “top tier” now. In the past it’s obviously been a select few characters who are quite dominant or over powered in some aspect. Now I think we’ll have to shift the goal post’s a little and top tier will just mean that x character is part of a larger more competitive group.
Ken has to be in that group. Like most have said, he’s fairly strong as he is, does good damage, has a decent mix up game, he has no stand out bad matches.
It’s natural for people to defend their main and down play them, after all 90% of us are shit house, including me.
Whats stopping you from being good?
Downplaying your main is just an easy excuse to explain why you aren’t good, and I think people need to stop doing it so you don’t have things like the Cammy forum happen where even the decent players do it and no one actually believes in their character.
Being 31, working in the mining industry on a fly in fly out roster for half the year, having a life, having not much of a local scene (unless you include a piss up with the boys at my place). My statement was probably a bit of a generalisation, but really the amount of time you need to put into this game to be high level is verging on psychotic. Maybe shit house was a bad term , how about pretty good but not good enough.
People wonder why Daigo is so good, it’s not magical. He spends 8 hours a day, offline in the arcade and attends almost every tourney. I’d be a freaking God as well if I did that…
Besides , the proof is in the pudding. When someone is announced or discussed as top tier, it doesn’t take more than 3 seconds for the bat signal to go off in the character forum and an agent is dispatched to set everyone straight.
I think that all those who believe that ver.2012 will have like 10 top tiers or something are up for a big disappointment in 3-6 months.
We’ll still see the same 3-5 top tier characters winning tournaments, at least in japan. The U.S will be the same as now, JW and Ricky winning with Rufus and Krone and Latif still raping bums with Viper.
Everyone who thinks that we’ll magically see some american Ken, Bison, Cody or even Akuma win a major is just being delusional.
You heard it first.
I’d agree with this, although my point was strictly on paper. Good players trump statistics every day of the week.
she’ll be ok. but tbh, she have too many glaring flaws for me to consider her being worth it. you’re much better off learning viper imho.
You wouldn’t be a god but it would e seriously disappointing if you weren’t at least very good. Beyond knowing everything inside and out, you still have to react to it all.
I’d say just getting to play 2 hours a day every day would make anyone better. I know I only play once a week and rarely do I get to play more than that. I’m not willing to trek it out to TNL every weekend and I just don’t have the time nor will to sit in front of my TV and play 20K matches online.
…is it bad that I’m approaching 20K online matches played?
Nah, it just means that you probably don’t have a full time job and/or a family of your own
Depends on how good you are.
20k like alioune = sure why not
20k and be bad = why bother
Have a part time job and a fiancee, but yeah, more or less.
I’m at 9000, but that’s including super, plus my attraction to playing alts way more than my main when I’ve had a drink! Infact I probably don’t play mains enough. But I enjoy the game, that’s what matters. Unless someone picks Bison
I didn’t even realize that “total” meant how many you played online. I can’t even fathom having the time for it. I mean if you can, and you enjoy it (and obviously you do if you have that many played) then that’s cool. I know when I was younger and sf2 was in the arcade I could play 8 hours a day on a dollar. Being 35 sucks! (It really doesn’t, but it does for some things)
I think AEv2012 is gonna be one of those games where you definitely need to have one or two sub characters to handle your bad matchups in 1v1 tourneys. I read recently that Neurosis is now playing Juri, and in a recent set vs Kazunoko, Daigo switched to Ryu to handle his seth (he won 8:3, whereas with Akuma he lost 4:14)
Hopefully teams becomes popular like it is in Japan.
Teams is more fun, and single game makes you adjust much faster.
…but, but…but Akuma is the best, how could this happen?
