You mean that people are Ok with akuma because there is ONE player (tokido) playing him at 100%…no wait, tokido’s fireball game is actually kinda weak (not really weak, but weak if you compare him to how momochi zoned in Vanilla using Akuma) so I think there’s not a single player using him at 100% of his potential. That’s because it’s impossible to do it since the character has to use so many things to be effective.
Like it’s been said 1’000’000 times, in theory fighter Akuma is indeed number one, and by a mile, but in practice he’s not. No wonder there is only 1 person in the WORLD actually doing good with him, and it’s not like Tokido is winning every tournament he’s going to…
In the hands of a good player akuma is still just a good character, it takes a world class player to actually make him really top tier.
I don’t see a single Akuma winning (or even placing top 8) in majors in the states or in Europe, this has to mean something
that’s just part of it, hakan simply isn’t solid, he has lots of gimmicks that pretty much no one is used to but besides that he doesn’t have much - unoiled hakan has no choice but to jump or block after blocking stepkick or yun’s divekick
also hakan has horrible mobility, and he doesn’t have the tools to keep people out like chun li does nor as great a backdash as chun or makoto
I keep on seeing people say things like “it’s too early to say yada yada…”
How does it keep escaping everyone that the game has been played competitively for months already? What great truths do you think scrubby American online play will possibly uncover?
No offense guys, but fuck. There is a competitive community outside Xbox live.
A few months to a year is nothing. You know people have been playing Third Strike for 11 years right? People have barely scratched the surface of AE and even SSF4.
Over the next months after AE is released on consoles, people might discover new unblockable set ups or glitches with Hakan, Oni or Dee Jay and these kind of details that no one saw coming can make a character better than people expected. Not only that but in time people will learn the Yun/Yang match up. Just like people learned the Ryu, Dhalsim and Sagat matchup. So a lot of things can still change.
Comparing the difference from Super to AE to other games doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t take a genius to see the implications of the changes from super (hint: it’s not just about the twins). There aren’t going to be a ton of earth-shattering discoveries; the game engine simply doesn’t allow it.
It also didn’t take 11 years for tiers to be solidified in 3S, so I’m not really sure what point you’re trying to make.
you guys are forgetting something in regards to what i said about the bottom tier characters.
first, they all have various tools and tricks and “potential”. the problem is that all those tools and tricks mean nothing if you arent applying them to matchups.
second, just because these characters are bottom tier dosent make them terrible. every character in this game is still viable in any matchup, in the right hands. there are no 8-2’s. you just wont see these characters, along with a few others, winning tourneys. not because their bad, but because they have a higher probability of running into multiple bad matchups
the way i see it, gen, hakan, and dan wont be going anywhere unless matchup winning tricks are discovered
This is actually a good point. people don’t even go to look to find these tools and tricks either for the most part.
I think the progress of the game has eliminated the insanely unwinnable matches for the most part(gief/seth vanilla, hawk/blanka super, blanka/cammy super etc.) I don’t think any current matchup really stands out that degree where another character just makes the matchup unwinnable.
Dan is ass. People have been going on about Dans hidden potential for years now, yet nobody has really shown shit with him. His Danku is a solid tool, but it is very possible to AA it. Anyone with an invincible uppercut, a crouching move that lowers the hit box, or even a cr. fp that does 100 will beat it or at least trade not in Dans favor. You can’t focus liberally, but it’s not like you can’t just stay at half screen and just react to Danku’s with a normal and it will lose. Dan is SO easy to keep out it’s not funny. He has horrible tools for getting. He’s got some interesting mix ups he can do, but the only one that does any damage at all is his FADC ultra. Getting hit by a Dan mix up is like getting bit by a mosquito. He’s got a couple of good pokes cr. mk and st. mk, but his walk speed is among the worst in the game so he can’t use them worth shit really. Dan is horrible, horrible, horrible. He doesn’t have some magic hidden potential, he is ass.
I am suprised you didn’t point out the fact that Dan is nothing like a shoto.
Im sorry Vulcan, but after calling Dan a shoto I have to question you posts a bit more.
@Carl2
Cammy could be brain dead in her offense, just like Yun is, but that’s only because you allowed the Cammy to get away with it. Don’t see how she was really brain dead.
I do feel bad for Dhalsim being an all or nothing character. You either make him excel at his game and piss off all the faggots who don’t like playing him, or you give him mediocre tools and make him not as efficient imo.
Everybody’s in a tizzy about the twins and Fei but they’re forgetting the beast Makoto’s become in AE. And don’t forget that Sagat is almost back to Vanilla status now (though not quite there). Ken is looking like a major threat also.
Things are gonna be interesting to say the least. I don’t think things are going to be as cut and dry as “The Twins and Fei, then everybody else”.
i remember all the bitching people did about Vanilla Sagat, and niggas were like “Hey, Vanilla Sagat never won any majors, so shut up/step up your game/quit bitching/generic fighting game ‘pro’ response here” now we got Daigo playing Yun, so I think that’s gonna be one argument nobody can use to shut up the Yun complainers
If Daigo doesn’t win EVO with that Yun he’s been using like…24/7 in Japan for the past 6 months, I’d be completely shocked.
I just realized something about AE. In Vanilla, there were maybe two players who were GM’s with more than 1 more character (Momochi: Akuma, Ryu and Kindevu: Viper, Rufus, Akuma). It hasn’t been even 6 months yet and we’re already seeing multi-char GM’s and Masters in AE. I know that you earn more BP in AE than Vanilla, but the fact that players are actually trying out different chars and doing well with them implies that the game is still relatively well-balanced.
It’s more of the person using the character rather than the character itself. If you have a strong knowledge of the game as well as good fundamentals, you can make any character look good.
