Yo, Balrog isn’t that good! Nigga has some of the worst mix-up potential in the game, and does shit damage! When he loses the life lead, he’s gotta fall back on chip damage, tick throws, and the world’s slowest overhead to get back in the game. Not to mention he’s free on wake-up, and he’s getting even more free/shitter damage output in AE. He’s so linear and one-dimensional, who loses to this guy!?

I actually didn’t hear anyone say he was a bad character. The sentiment was he was highly overrated and for all his supposed OP-ness wasn’t whored out nearly enough. I guess people looking for that easy button win missed their window. O well.

I agree that j.mp with Honda is retarded, three times in a match it beat my hp uppercut with Sagat, it’s kinda like Bison’s j.hp.

It’s sarcastic whining for the most part. I still do decently well in tournaments with him. The above posts were joking a bit with people. I think he’s bad in a lot of ways, but I’m not going to say he doesn’t beat certain characters or write pages and pages analyzing how he sucks to convince an audience. He just is what he is.
I don’t undersell his good points. I know he’s mid, but he has trouble with top/high tier which hurts him(loses to Cammy, Fei, Boxer, Abel, Rufus pretty badly), he’s more mid-low in terms of tournament viability because a lot of his good matches just aren’t against viable characters. My chances of winning a tournament/getting top 8 skyrocket if I play against a bunch of shotos, guile, and random ass tier characters like thawk. I have to get lucky and hope to not get counterpicked for the most part. In comparison Honda doesn’t have matches as hard as Blanka, and in his slightly disadvantaged matches he can still random things out with dumb damage.
Also I meant I liked posting here more a few years ago when there was less bullshit uninformed opinions, and good players actually posted as a higher % of the posts trying to dispense info. I’m not saying I’m a top player, but I think in terms of who is posting, I think I’m at least in the upper half. I think me saying my ass character is ass now and again can be forgiven.
Blanka loses to Rufus and Cammy? I thought Blanka did well against dive kick characters? He has Option select tech with c.MP to stuff them on startup and Upball which beats them for free, not to mention very good, quick air-to-air normals for high dive kicks. This stops both Rufus and Cammy from pressuring Blanka from the air and makes dealing with them a lot easier.
Maybe I’m wrong but I’m sure Blanka beats both of them or at least has an even matchup with them. His turtle defence seems too good tbh. I dunno, prove me wrong but I just thought he had the advantage in those matchups.
cammy can punish blanka really well it is one of his worse matchups. Idk much about rufus tho so I won’t say much.
There’re a lot of characters that can punish Blank Balls and you can also jab him out of them but we all know that good Blanka players, and I’m sure Veserius would agree, don’t rely on Blanka Balls to win a matchup.

You can Blanka Ball dive kicks, Upball dive kicks, c.MP dive kicks and air-to-air them very well which means they have to find a different way to pressure him OR be smarter and more careful with their dive kicks.
This is based off what I saw at one of the Battlefields. I don’t play cammy so I wouldn’t know I just saw Insaynne get bodied after playing me.
If Cammy stays on the ground and maintains a life lead, it is incredibly difficult for Blanka to stage a comeback. Since his only invincible ground reversal doesn’t knock down, even if Cammy gets hit she can respond with an Ultra 1. After she knocks Blanka down, even if it’s a soft knockdown, she can do a safe dive kick where she can block before Blanka can Up Ball. Once she blocks that, the process sort of repeats itself.
Whoever wins that match is determined in the first 20 seconds.
We’ve discussed the Cammy matchup in depth in the Blanka forum. In Vanilla and Super, she rapes him for sure.
Not just that, but she’s got option selects against backdash and EX Rainbow escapes as well.
