Was kinda messing around in lab with mirror match, I just found that I could consistently get meaty l.tatsu on Sak off of j.mk crossup, so could do j.mk > s.hp xx meaty l.tatsu > cr.mk xx h.shou
not sure if it’s particularly useful or who else it works on, trying it out on a few
I really like this combo! The best that I’d come up with was crossup jMK, clMK, tatsu, sLK, EX tatsu. But this one is easier, hits harder, and doesn’t use meter.
Now if only I can find something good for Ryu and Ken.
I’ve been spending every lab sesh trying to figure out cr.mk after lk tatsu setups on all the characters. I’ve found a few so far and they are:
E. Ryu - cr.MP xx lk tatsu > cr.jab > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho.
Juri - Cl.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho
Adon - Cl.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho
Cl.mk xx lk tatsu > Cl.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk (or sweep)
Also, we all know about St.MP > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho on Yun/Yang? You can alternatively do St.MP xx lk tatsu > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho.
So we all know Cody hit pretty hard. Here’s out way to get back at him whilst stylin’ a bit:
Cl.fp xx lk tatsu > jab > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho or sweep
Also, off a standardly deep crossup mk (or fp or RH) Cl.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.fp xx lk tatsu > cr.mk xx sho or sweep.
Cody is one of those characters you actually may want to sweep since his wake-up is so bad. Food for thought and combos for training mode.
Cammy: Cl.mk tatsu Cl.fp tatsu cr.fp tatsu cr.mk sho (? - I’m putting this because I later tried this and it seemed to miss. I believe that this occurred because of the Cl.fp link being possible in multiple frames, causing slightly different spacing, so I will be still testing this but if you’re able to hit confirm the late hitting tatsu, then this opportunity arises.)
C. Viper: cr.fp tatsu cr.fp tatsu cr.mk/sweep
crossup mk cr.mk tatsu cr.fp tatsu cr.mk or sweep
Thanks for the contribution Legend! Some of these could be really pratical for good meterless damage into untechable knockdown.
Sure thing! I really like figuring these out and at some point I’ll have ones for crouching characters too being that they can differ. I really think that a hard knockdown can be a really scary thing (against certain characters) when facing Sakura and her mixups. Though not every combo where you can do a cr.mk can it be swapped with a sweep, I’m keeping that in mind and testing them to make sure where they’re possible.
Good god, I had no idea you can do tatsu into sweep. If I could, I would probably end everything in sweep vs every character. I consider sweep to be better than 2x otoshi midscreen.
Some characters I’ve found ways to still get cr.mk or sweep but the setup for it is much less practical or consistent. Ryu is one of those. I needed to connect a deep crossup mk then link cr.lp cr.fp lk tatsu and it would create that spacing again. Difficult and not exactly worth going for since the consistency wasn’t there so I never posted it. I really like those anti-frame data combos though.
Why is that?
The only advantages of otoshi that I’m aware of are fireball setups and ambiguous corner cross-ups/unblockables. Both of those things really lose their luster midscreen. Even if you do the fancy overhead into lvl2 fireball combo on their wake-up, it’s reversible.
With a midscreen sweep ender, though, you generally do a tiny bit more damage (negligible), more stun, and you can do cross-up shenanigans and safe jump stuff easier. The caveat here is that I literally don’t know any ambiguous midscreen set-ups for after 2x otoshi, so maybe I’m just ignorant? Oh and I’m personally more consistent hitting the sweep than otoshi midscreen.
But I do prefer cMK, dp after a meaty tatsu rather than just a sweep. Guaranteed damage is too good to ignore imo.
I think both have their own uses and mixups so I try to use each of them. Each has a few different options, which is nice.
I also prefer the midscreen sweep ender, for example on Cammy, you can do ex tatsu dash sweep, st.lk whiff, j.hp/mk for a 50/50.
I like to fake the level 2 overhead setup to bait reversals, but I need to stop being so conservative. Is there a safe jump setup after midscreen sweep?
Just to branch on from Legend’s combos.
On Cody, you can do tatsu > cl.hp xx tatsu > st.lp > cr.hp xx tatsu > mp shouken.
I still like doing otoshi x2 midscreen. You can still work your crossups/fake crossups. I don’t have any setups down, I just eyeball my jumps and can still get some narly j. Hps in. Although I do want to mess around more with sweep
I actually haven’t bothered to perfect 50/50s setups, not a massive fan of them.
The character specific combos are actually quite practical, for example this one on Cody, cl.hp xx tatsu > st.lp > cr.hp xx tatsu > cr.mk xx hp shouken does more damage than cl.hp xx tatsu > cr.hp xx hp shouken and it’s easier, more stun, more meter and looks cooler.
^ …and it safer if you fuck up the second link! Not that that should really be a reason to use it over the other combo. Still convenient to say the least. I really like that late lk tatsu into mp srk. That’s a really cool find Fergus. I’m sure it’s usable on the Adon/Juri combo: cl.mk xx tatsu cl.fp xx tatsu cr.fp xx tatsu cr.mk/sweep/(mp srk). I’m sure it’s same for the twins too then. - This is all without testing though. -
wow nice combos guys cant believe I didnt see these posts before, just tried some of them out, they’re so fun to do :D.
the
also seems to be working on deejay, though for some reason I cant seem to be able to get it to work on juri or the twins yet
