to Standing Gief and Thawk? If it hit them at all while they are standing, EX or not I will be one happy mother fucker.
St. MK being special cancellable would actually help in her footsies alot. Not gonna beat a shoto cr. MK I’m guessing but we have low tsurugis for that. Maybe. Or her focus.
Pretty much entirely theory fighting but that’s how I hope it would go.
I start to get down and then you remind me of super low Tsurugi, thank you sir!
Low Tsurugi will probably be preferred. Focusing a c.mk means a fireball is probably going to follow.
Fireballs don’t really come out fast enough to beat focus if your timing is right. Makoto’s certainly looks fast enough.
Yeah. Even if it can hit when they are stunned that would be awesome. It would be REALLY awesome if since they fixed the hitbox on Gief’s lariat that Makoto could do a Fukiage to punish a whiffed Lariat.
I’m not a big fan of theory fighter especially on an unreleased game so I’ll try not to delve too deep.
It would seem to me that Sagat wouldn’t be that big of a deal especially if Makoto’s EX moves do what they’re rumored to do. If her dash in fact goes under high tiger shots that’s a big deal. I’d probably guess it’s the biggest factor in whether or not she’ll have a hard time with him. As for TK pressure I’d think that Sagat would have to worry about EX Oroshi and Karakusa afterwards especially since he can’t cancel st. LK anymore.
As for landing U II with her the first thing I’ll try is Karakusa > EX Fukiage > Ultra
About Makoto as top-tier I think there are two reasons why I don’t think she will be. Last time around the best characters seemed to be ones that had something to specifically deal with FBs and could do a lot of damage off of a jab. That’s not to say that Makoto will be completely inept against fireballers, but she doesn’t have a go-to anti fireball move. Also landing Karakusa is nice, but I’m really hoping she can do something after a jab. Fuck tiers though. Play with who you like…
Amen brudda
Didn’t 3S Oroshi allow you to duck under fireballs?
no, not reliably…
Yeah. A bit strict timing though.
Was just about to say something about that after seeing your other post. Ex/Fukiage>JC/TK Tsurugi would definitely make 'Gief think twice about whiffing a Lariat anywhere close, and ideally Hayate could punish the recovery if he starts whiffing them at range.
s.Lp>s.LkxxLp Hayate works in 3S, but her s.Lp has very short range. What would be nice is something like c.Lk>c.Lp>c.MpxxHayate, since the other 3S characters got similar combos to compliment their existing target combos I don’t think that would be too much for Makoto to have.
That’s true. I hope they didn’t change it from the trailer so that it no longer sets her up for Karakusa. I wouldn’t mind if Light and Medium Hayate still puts you in range. Let’s hope for that.
This is another thing Justin Wong didn’t show us in the video. If Makoto’s Standing MK is the same as it was in 3rd Strike and it’s able to work like Bison’s and Sagat’s Standing RH then hell yeah. After watching Justin Wong’s video again, I’ve noticed Standing MK is Special cancellable which is crazy. I’m thinking it might be too good if it worked like Bison and Sagat’s Standing RH along with that.
I still want to know if you can still follow up after an EX Hayate in the corner, like with Standing MK. And if it can, I wonder if it would work against all characters.
If you’re referring to resetting the opponent in the corner after EX Hayate like in 3S, the universal reset was :r: :lk:. st.:mk: and st.:hp: was character specific IIRC.
If the others aren’t possible, maybe they might still let f + lk catch a juggled opponent for a reset. It does look like Gen’s juggle foot tap.
I can’t see Sagat taking too many risks with TK pressure, especially with less health.
Well, Makoto was an oddball in 3rd strike too as far as top tiers go, so I’m not sure how relevant it is. She did get at least something off light attacks in 3s (s.LP, s.LK, LP Hayate). Her new Tsurugi is divekick-esque, and dive kicks were fairly good in SF4. And she gets hitconfirm into whatever you want off a command grab, which should still have tons of setups.
As for jab combos, I think the reason damage off of jabs was important was because the majority of characters didn’t have many ways to beat blocking. So instead you did safe pressure and chip until you caught someone pressing a wrong button, and then you needed that safe move to lead to big damage. The way I see it, that systemic importance of jabs shouldn’t necessarily apply to Makoto considering that she has more options to beat opponents who aren’t pressing buttons than the majority of the cast. In addition to the mixups she had before she’ll get something vaguely like divekick/low/throw mixups, except in this case the throw is untechable.
Makoto’s dash looks like some shit from Marvel lol.
I saw that gametrailers exclusive of her. I like what I see. I don’t think she’ll be at the top, but she wont be bad by any means.
I want to main her coming up so I can beat my brother. He is saying that Makoto is going to be an embrassment and if people pick her up they would waste their time. I’ll kick the crap out of him for you guys.
I have a feeling Makoto is going to be one of those characters that keeps climbing the tier list as time goes on…
makoto is the new sagat, just wait and see!
I thought the same thing with Gen but that doesn’t seem the case. He is one of those characters that is going to take some time to really adapt to. Then again I hear he;s changed much more in SSF4 than in Sf4. Makoto is by far more popular than Gen though so I guess that could change things.
As long as it ain’t Seth or Ken.
