Probably not, her EXes are pretty fantastic from what we’ve heard so far, Oroshi and Karakusa especially
Yeah, unless you have a commanding control on the pacing already saving the super bar may not be a real option. Someone said you’ll see a lot of first round loss second round Makoto wins in the blink of an eye and thrid round lost.
Her dash is what I am most happy with at the moment. It’s big enough to easily dash under regular jump ins and not just cross ups which is going to be her premier AA move I think. Fukiage looks better but I don’t know if it will be enough.
Seriously, super>ultra is overrated. Karakusa>ultra is where it’s at.
It’s notable that, as long as you are on the offensive, you may not feel the need to spend as much EX meter as you used to.
-
Ultra meter. Free damage that comes from a separate bar. Also, it’s a way to get a knockdown off of Karakusa without spending EX meter.
-
If all versions of Tsurugi hit overhead, then there’s less difference between those and the EX version. We don’t know what the differences are though.
-
Non-EX Fukiage may be more viable now, for what it’s worth.
EX Karakusa seems more like a defensive option. EX Oroshi will probably be the most common EX move on offense, then EX Hayate.
I can see both approaches being all right. If you see an opportunity where an EX move would be good, go for it, if you think you’re fine, save for super. She seems to build meter decently, so it shouldn’t be that much worse than 3rd strike especially considering the ultra meter. Probably matchup-specific too.
would Karakusa, super, ultra be overrated?
Personally I just want some Hijinks after Abare the most. Not a lot, even just one hit I would be cool with, it was the only time I ever used Fukiage outside of stun.
I use Mak a decent amount in 3S, but I have no idea how she’s going to get around Gief and Sagat in SFIV
If find reducing their life bar to 0 is the best way to get around them.
j/k j/k. I hate Gief, a lot. Dealing with him is going to be rough.
Sagat I am less worried about actually. No good reason other than I think her dash is going to be really good against plasma spammers. His damage is coming down too, while Makoto’s is obviously huge. Abare will be nice against someone as tall as him as well (same for Gief actually)
I don’t know about you guys, but I was disappointed in Makoto’s turn-out after seeing Justin Wong’s tutorial. My dick did not get hard at all. They’ve increased the push-back on Hayate so that you couldn’t follow up with Karakusa?! C’mon, man. I was looking forward to that. Then again, I understand they didn’t want her to be like another Zangief. It would have been too crazy in SFIV I guess.
On the plus side, Tsurugi is better. That’s the only really good boost. Fukiage is better but I still find it a bit useless. Justin hasn’t showed us everything yet, like the rest of her EX moves, what you can follow up with after them and of course her Abare Tosami. I guess that’s for us to find out ourselves.
Makoto looks to be better than Fei Long. I’m thinking she’ll be mid-tier at best. Dudley on the other hand, holy shit; automatic top-tier.
I think this will be the case for a while till some pros find good work arounds for zoning and plasma and then she head towards the top again due to her damage.
That’s what I’m thinking too. So I haven’t completely lost faith in Makoto just yet. She just didn’t surprise me nearly as much as Ibuki and Dudley did.
Be happy landing a Karakusa means an Ultra I landing. No one was expecting that shit. There was a lot of shit left out in that demo, so no point in counting chickens yet.
Well we know little about Abare and that could make a lot of difference. It was my favorite superart. It was super fast and could easily punish a fire ball on reaction and the shennanagins afterwards, ohhhh shivers.
Other videos, specially the Capcom 3rd stike character trailer, show her being in range for a karakusa after doing a hayate. If you look at the JWong tutorial again he is always using fierce hayate and short karakusa, that could have something to do with it.
everything seen in any video up till now has to be taken with a grain of salt. Either due to J.Wongs oversights or due to earlier build vs later build differences. All we can do is hope and wait.
I’m pretty sure Lariat will beat Mak’s everything, except low pokes
For Sagat, I dunno man… I just hope Karakusa has crazy priority like in 3S
And regarding Dudley… everyone thinks he’s going to be top, but honestly I don’t think he will be, because even though his options and mixup is sick, his stamina is going to be normal, his damage output will be slightly above average, but the screen in SFIV is hugeeeeee soo people are going to be running away from him like heck.
Well you can only run so much. Thunderbolt punch is pretty much an instant closer knock down that can cross up and I bet punish fireballs. His dash looked a bit slow but long. I think the running game will only take people so far against him.
Yeah Gief I hate, the good news is though that Medium punch > Hayate repeat, can be pretty damn effective at mid to lower level play, and I bet Abare will punish lariat…at least I hope so.
Sagat Tiger Knee will be Maks biggest obstacle. I am hoping Tsurugi will help alleviate some of that pressure though.
Really I am hoping to that her dash and Hayate will be quick enough and scary enough in forward motion to bait a punishable move like DP or Cannon Spike. Though better players will likely just mash pokes to get around that.
BAH I should quit talking myself into a corner it gets me down.
If mak’s st MK is the same as bison’s and sagat’s st RH I don’t think we need to worry about gief. Especially seeing that we can special cancel it now. That’s if it does but it looks so much like bison’s and sagat’s st RH I don’t see why not.
Sagat losing st. LK cancels would nerf his tiger knee game quite a bit actually.
And seriously, DPs and cannon spikes are retardedly easy to punish even without mak’s insane dash. You guys worry too much.
I’m just hoping at least one of her Tsurugi’s gives a float juggle state when used on an aerial opponent.
No you are right they are easy to punish hence why I am trying to bait it I am more worried about space control via poke spamming. I mean I won’t be fighting Valle anytime soon but that guy throws out a LOT of pokes. Just players like that will prolly stuff my game a lot cause…well I am over ambitious.
I wonder if Ill be able to use either regular or EX Fukiage on big characters like Gief or Thawk?
