SSF4 Guile Match-up Thread: Typhoon < Sonic Boom < Vortex

huh, you can ultra through Ibuki’s kick if you’re blocking them, between the second and third one you can input ultra 1

Which kick or move? Can u be more specific?

Tsumuji spin kicks. It’s possible to interrupt between the 2nd and 3rd but obviously at great risk.

Yeah, don’t try this online though, and even if you do, your ultra will NOT come out 90% of the time due to input lag, you will just remain in blockstun.

how many frames in between them? can you squeeze out a normal, or do they all get beat by the 3rd kick?

You can s.hp after the 2nd blocked kick and they’ll get hit if they tried to do the 3rd.

If you really wanna gamble U1, try it at the period when she cancels her punch to those kicks. It’s not a true blockstring. More than 90% of ibukis will go for the cancel into the kicks.

Sorry I just remembered that Ibuki has 3 kick buttons to choose from so I’m not really about whether her punch to all of the 3 kicks cancel is a true blockstring. It could be safe for one of the kick buttons but it has always worked for me against those Ibukis I’ve played.

So she should be - 7 frame advantage after second kick right? otherwise, U1 wouldnt come out… correct me if im wrong

There’s just a ‘hole’ in the blockstring so U1 will come out. The 2nd kick actually has little blockstun.

i just crossed up Bison with j.hk o_0

In the corner?

yeap

Happens with a few charactes, Cody comes to mind as well.

Hey everyone, check out http://logicfighter.com/ where I did a write up for the Akuma match-up. I’ll post whenever a new match-up goes up!

nice stuff man. i really enjoy the akuma match for some reason. having said that, i’ve only fought a couple recently that have given me a run for my money, so i’m sure someone like tokido would make me want to pull my hair out lol.

on the subject of akuma, i’ve been using him in the lab recently. totally by chance, i happened to come across some cheapness that both him and ryu have that i never fully realised up until now. i’m sure that this is common knowledge to the high level players and option select crew, but i’ll post it anyways. let’s say you’re using either shoto and going for an untechable knockdown combo (cr.lk, st.lp, cr.hk). if you plink the cr.hk with cr.lp, you’ll get two options. cr.hk comes out = you get the untechable knockdown for a mix up. cr.lp comes out = you have the opportunity to quickly cancel it into hk tatsu. learn the timing and just add a tatsu motion to the end of your inputs, and you’ll get either sweep or tatsu every time. the only way this wont work is if you do the inputs too slowly, as you’ll end up doing a punishable sweep, so keep in mind it’s better to be too fast than too slow.

i’m a total noob to option selects, mainly because of the fact i main guile. but i must admit that they’re really starting to interest me now.

I think C. Viper match up would be a great follow up for next article. Youve always done a great job against Marn and even Wolfkrone, given this match up is still bad

I was fucking around in the room against Bison and I noticed that if you do a deep HK jumpin (hit his belly), the GHK will wiff over his head. Annoying to say the least.

The GHK whiff after a jump-in attach hits is pretty irritating… It’s been happening a little too much these days on various characters and it sometimes costs the match. I think it usually whiffs if you hit the jump-in too high or if you’re too close after landing. I’m trying to bring c.mp xx fk back into my regular game for reliability. -.-

is there a specific spacing or way to make j.hk cross up consistently? i keep doing this totally randomly, and it always surprises me lol.

The only way I’ve got this to work is strictly in the corner and on some characters only, Cody and Bison come to mind. Never ever pulled it off out of the corner though don’t think it’s possible.

Reposting here since im getting chewed up for creating new threads.

Hakan 2012 is deadly:

Not sure if anyone here has had a chance to fight a good Hakan player but with Guile and his lack of GTFO moves on wakeup, he’s like a sitting duck. I played a player named “relaxn” on PSN that wiped the floor with me.

On wakeup, i was get grabbed constantly. Is there any way out of this? I can only come up with backdash since i know jump is 4 frames and i’d get grabbed.

How about an effective overall strategy?

Not sure if anyone has seen Infiltration owning people with Hakan. Click this link for some vids. Looks like he’s the new Yun of 2012.
