SSF4 Guile General Discussion Thread

troll harder

I predict daggerG is gonna upset Jwong if the pool brackets for Evo remain the same. Practice up on that Rufus match!

Yeah, I agree. Even if it’s isn’t DaggerG, I really think a good Guile player is going to upset JWong’s Rufus.

The top 6 or so characters all have at least two or three bad match ups, and, imo, Guile is one of Rufus’ bad match ups. Yeah, if Rufus gets in, he’ll probably get tons of damage, but there has to be some God-like Guile out there that can stay solid for the whole match and zone out JWong. Rufus’ U2 has pretty much shut down Sagat and Ryu’s fireball game. Guile’s the only character who can still throw out projectiles against Rufus and a good combination of st.mk, cr.hp, df.hk, and FK can keep him out.

If that doesn’t work, I’m hoping some solid Boxer will step up against him.

EDIT: I know it seems like I don’t like JWong, but I want to see him get beat just to give him some comp. and encourage evolution and growth. If JWong goes up against Daigo, I’ll be cheering for JWong (unless Daigo’s playing Guile, then GO AMERICA!!!)

Im pretty sure daigos gonna play guile, right?

Justin Wong is a fat piece of shit who only cares about the money. Yeah, he’s been recorded somewhere saying he plays in hopes somebody will pick him up and pay him a lot of money to play.

Yeah, I’m going to root for Daigo. At least he’s not a piece of shit like Justin “Fatso” Wong. Yeah, it seems like I hate Justin Wong, but I really don’t. His comment regarding the whole money aspect of the thing basically made irked the hell out of me. I’m still not going to put my money on his side.

Confusing sentence is confusing!

Also, don’t hate on Wong. So if someone walked up to you and said “Hey, I’ll give you $40k a year to play Street Fighter,” you would probably jump on that shit. Hell, Daigo makes a living out of Street Fighter and it’s not like Wong is saying he’s going to disappear from the community or some shit unless he gets his fight money.

Saying “I wish I could make money by doing something I already do for fun,” is something we all do, and critcising others for saying that just comes off as ignorant.

Also, @je83, 90% of the info you asked is already around in the other stickies. However, backfist has most range, 50f boom charge time, air throw or j.hp are the best air to airs, and he struggles with fuerte, abel, and viper. I’m also going to call it and say that Ken is going to evolve into a much harder match-up. If I could pick 2 common mistakes newbie guile’s make it’s too much c.hk use and walking themselves back into a corner while throwing booms, then trying to jump out like an idiot.

lol @ the Jwong hate from Jason Pierce! It’s just a game man, no need to get so worked up.

Are you this pissed at Lebron James for shopping around outside of Cleveland cause he wants teh monies?

Jwong is good at SF and if he wants to do it for the money, so what? At least he seems to have cleaned up his attitude a bit since moving to Cali unlike Marn who continues to taunt and run his mouth during matches.

I personally don’t care who wins as long as it’s an entertaining match to watch… although I would love to see someone beat Diago and upset all the dick riders.

Edit: @Slinkun, pretty sure Diago is a male nurse or some shit for his job and the SF money is just gravy.

Oh, the irony is beyond hysterical through your entire post.

I didn’t wanna search however many threads to find answers to all those questions…unless they were all in one location, cause let’s face it, annoying to look at 10 different places for your answers.
Easier, faster, smarter… what are we wasting 2kb of bandwidth here(over exaggerating a little)

ok enough about that subject(I’m sorry I just went on and on, lol)

  • OK so the forward fist is better than the kick, where he moves forward(not the move where his head is upside down, in some type-a matrix shiat.

  • what is 50f on a charge time? how many seconds is that? I hear 1.7 anyways, is that true?

  • “air throw or j.hp are the best air to airs” is that true? I see alot of players doing jump medium kick

  • Again sorry I got confused, which is better, back-standing MP or crouch HP ??

  • Another question is, what do you think guile players should be doing that you don’t see them doing

Thank for the help on the questions… I appreciate it. Thank you so much, and maybe I can play you in a series one day

Every one of your questions is situational, dude.

You aren’t accounting for someone actually having to reply to you. Consider the human cost - not your personal army and all that.

50f = 50 frames. The game runs at 60fps (frames per second). Can it be calculator tiem nao?

It’d be helpful if you either used notation or the move names. It sounds like you’re asking whether f.hp is better than f.mk (as opposed to b/f.hk(close)). You’ve also asked about the best air-to-air options and which is better out of b.mp or c.hp. Let’s see if I can answer these:

f.hp vs. f.mk: These are different tools for different situations. f.hp is a long range punish for standing opponents; f.mk is a mid-range poke and movement tool. That’s the core of Guile’s game - a lot of situational tools. Perhaps if you were to phrase it as something like “which is the better option in this situation: …” you might have more luck with a detailed response.

air-to-air: I use lp, mp, hp, lk, mk, and hk for all three types of jump (back, neutral, and forward). My choice depends on the opponent: what character, what style, what they can fall for, what are they doing, what am I trying to set up, etc. Again, right tool for the job.

b.mp or c.hp (aka aa normals): I use s.lp, s.mp, c.mp, s.hp, f.hp, c.hp, s.mk, s.hk, and df.hk (some much more than others). See previous sentences for reasoning.

What are newer Guile players not doing? Lots:

  • not enough use of normals
  • not enough boom or too much boom
  • too much c.hk
  • poorly timed lk.fk or not enough lk.fk
  • focusing on things like dash ultra before they can handle his normals
  • trade fk = juggle
  • early fk = juggle
  • aa boom = juggle

50 frames a second? I’m sorry I don’t understand the termonolgy.

smart man on the rest of the stuff…

Lamerboi and Dagger_G are the 2 guys I saw on the Pool list for Evo. I presume Gilley & Warahk will be competing too.

A shame that no japanese Guile players will be there. It would be interesting to see how far Fujisawa, Yazu and Yoshiwo will go should they compete at EVO.

Good luck to all of the Guile players at evo2010. Hope no one gets Eita in their pools.

Thank you kind sir!

Your turn Dagger_G !!! =) fight for the Guile army!

I will be in pOOl B with lamerboi. kind of messed up how him and crackfiend are in the same pool…

Bold predictions!! I wish I could attend just to see that happen. I think anyone aside from maybe marn anyone from jp beating jwong would bring the house down tho. New youtube classic in the making: Rare footage of Jwong actually losing to a non jp born player. When did Jwong last lose a tournement btw?

Thanks

I’m kind of hoping to watching and learning that matchup right then and there. I’m dreading Ricky Ortiz…:frowning:

**Doesn’t JW use Abel too?
Anyway, are there any Viper, Abel, El players in the way of our Guile reps?
**

The amount of time Guile must be holding either ub, b, or db before a boom becomes available is 50 frames. The game runs at 60 frames per second. All moves are measured in frames broken into groups for the state the character is in: start-up, active, recovery. Each move also inflicts a frame change (advantage or disadvantage) on the opponent if it connects - this can be measured either as Guile’s frame advantage or disadvantage (Guile is at +n frames or at -n frames) or as the opponents (op is at +n frames or at -n frames). With that basic knowledge, hit up the Wiki ( http://shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/Guile_(SSFIV) ) and become enlightened.

Edit: for those participating at EVO - good luck; I know you’ll make us proud :stuck_out_tongue:
