SSF4 Guile General Discussion Thread

How do you keep the fight midscreen vs fei and general fei matchup tips?

can someone explain dash into flash kick, does it work with all specials and characters? i can do dash into ultra but not this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuQgoh8jtdM

During any super/ultra freeze screen, guile can charge for FK, SB, super, or ultra. Simplest way to test this is to record the opponent doing an Ultra(Ryu U1). Then take guile and have him walk towards Ryu. As soon as the screen turns dark for the Ultra, start charging down. Now before Ryu releases the Ultra, press U+K. You’ll FK him.

Guile started charging when Hakan did his super.

You can actually do a forward dash into a cr.lp, cr.mp xx flashkick. That’s the fastest that I can think of without using super/ultra freeze.

damn thanks gilley makes perfect sense. So there is no way db charge-> dash or focus dash-> special move ? in the way that charge dash ultra/super just flat out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSYz1WMAMgM

You have 10f to press a button whenever you leave charge to get a FK/SB out.
You have 26f to press a button whenever you leave charge to get a Super/Ultra out.

Guile’s forward dash is 19f, which is why dash > Super/Ultra works.

So word around the camp fire is that they are having a private beta testing for ultra street fighter…only people who got invited were players who are character speicialist…

hope dieminion got invited :praise:

and i think he did because i sent him a tweet and someone who is deep in the FGC chimed in

Hey @Di3mini0n what do you think they are gonna do to guile and what would you like to be changed?

@TFADeeDogg @Di3mini0n guile will be better lol. He got some good additions

Freaky.

Im definitely positive towards zoning characters in Ultra. I think Capcom will give them their break they deserve. I dont think theyre gonna be top tier but I think theyll be stronger than low-mid tier this time round.

Zoners were strong in Super as well.

Does Guile have the ability to whiff cancel his normals into sonic boom?

Yah, you have to do it pretty early though. Like, you can technically kara-boom with s.mp but its not very useful.

I find it interesting because last night I was playing a match where I did the following combo:

Jump in HK > cr.mp xx Sonic Boom.

The jump in HK connected but the crouching mp whiffed yet a sonic boom still came out.

EDIT: What is the reason why that works?

I have experienced a wiff canceled SB before. I really don’t know what was happening in this situation. I saw it plain as day though cause I did it during the super freeze screen. My opponent activated super while I was throwing a c.mp so you got to see the really slow animation of guile’s c.mp. During this time I also just went ahead and tried to throw a SB, and one came out while the c.mp was still in it’s full extended animation frames. This only happened to me once and I tried to recreate this situation in training mode to figure out what happened, but I’ve been unable to reproduce it.

I have it in slow motion if that helps.

EDIT: Correction. When I threw out the sonic boom, the crouching medium punch recovered but the sonic boom came out on the first available frame. Looked alot like a buffer.

I’m looking for more ways to make people jump. What are some good ways to fake Sonic Booms? I know y’all have some canned button combinations to get people to jump. What are you guys doing exactly?

Get into a boom pattern then stop lol

Throwing in st jabs between booms and changing the boom speed at different spaces

Yeah its all about specific timings and using certain tricks to create these timings. Whiffing normals (I like two st.jabs or one standing fierce) or using Guiles normals that allow him to move whilst maintaining charge. Using bazooka knee and b+mk adds so many layers to Guiles fireball patterns. It becomes easier to bait jumps and create traps that leave you at a perfect space to anti air with cr.fierce, st.forward, downforward roundhouse or far st.mp if they jump.

I’ve found this more effective than any form of whiffs.

Staredown situation in crouch just outside Guile’s poke range. Start walking back and opponent jumps forward most of the time cos they think you’re spacing for a boom. Jump AAs work best here.

Best be careful whiffing b.lk and s.hp too much cos Guile eats a full combo if the opponent jumps these normals.
