Sup guys. When spooky uploads Guard Crush 12 matches I’ll post them in the video thread. He’s going to be very busy uploading videos as he is in Canada right now so it may take a while . Thanks for being patient.
Daigo wins the Canada Cup with Guile! So that’s pretty cool. He caught an insane amount of Mago’s EX Chicken Wings with backbreaker.
Good win for Guile. Looks like Diago has to work on that fk fdac to hurricane though. I seen a lot of missed opportunity with his Guile in some of those matches.
Where was Rebelo damn it. Sad for Canada he was not there.
Haven’t spoke to him in awhile. Why didn’t you go Bro???
Hey people. I’m just some friendly T. Hawk main who’s looking for a serious second character. I’ve been poking around with a few (including Rose, Sagat and Chun-Li), but–as much as I would have hated saying this even a week ago–Guile has really stuck to me. I kinda hate myself for even considering Guile. I’ve always hated the character. But that being said, I feel the need to learn some other character, and Guile may be that one, though I usually prefer lesser-used characters (but I’m not going to use Dee Jay, the poor man’s Guile). If Charlie were to make it in an update, I’d switch to him in a heartbeat, in all likelihood, but for now, I’m wondering what general tips a beginning Guile should know.
Unless I end up playing Sagat or Chun-Li, that is (Sagat is far too slow for my tastes). I’m not a technical or big-combo guy. I just want to beat the hell out of someone, back off, and wait for them to make the next move, with a little flexibility in there, and that’s why I’m thinking Guile fits that description.
Dee Jay isn’t the poor man’s Guile, he’s an entirely separate character with his own game-plan/play-style and a few similar special moves.
VERY General Tips for SF Beginners:
** Play slow and careful (Defense is strong in this game, life lead is powerful)
** Glue your feet to the ground (Jumping leaves you defenseless)
** Don’t dash, walk (Dashing leaves you defenseless)
** Wake up blocking (Strong defense keeps you alive)
** React instead of guessing (Guessing leaves you defenseless if you’re wrong)
General Beginner Guile Tips:
** Learn your normals! Guile has a ton of them and you need to have a good knowledge of them to be successful. You need to know all your situational anti-airs, best punishers, best pokes, and how to move about with a charge.
** Seriously, learn your normals! They are the staples of any solid Guile. It’s not just throw sonic boom and profit. THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE I CAN TELL YOU!
** Flash Kick (As an anti-air), Super, and c.HK SUCK! (Truthfully, I’m lying to you; BUT! at least for awhile pretend it’s true and avoid these moves.) Too many Guile beginners abuse these moves and get killed for it. They have their time and place, but you’ll learn that later after you get the basics down.
** Sonic Boom IS NOT ALWAYS “safe” (Yes you will use A LOT of booms and people will complain to you about how safe they are but you must revise your definition of safe and throw them intelligently). If you throw boom and are able to block your opponent in time some will call this safe, YOU SHOULD NOT; yes you took no damage but you let them get close to you and now you have to deal with it.
** Block-string ending with boom is not always safe either. This is most notable with special moves that go through fireballs like Balrog’s head-butt, super and U1. Some people can buffer and react to the boom if you use the same string repeatedly, some people will take crazy guesses be aware of this and mix up your strings/don’t always end with boom.
I didn’t even remember using the “poor man’s Guile” line. That’s not like me. O_o
I’ve learned a bit of what you said over the last week or so. I have been having an issue of instinctively ripping out the Flash Kick as an anti-air (and paying a dear price for it). Getting his normals down seems to be where I’m most struggling so far. Playing T. Hawk has gotten me to appreciate normals, but getting down what’s best with Guile seems to be my weak point.
Along with the overabuse of sonic booms, but i’m learning my lesson.
Well I got top 8 in a tournament today. I guess my biggest win was over a Zangief player who has placed good at plenty of tournaments in the past. I was taken out by some Sakura, but it’s was just this dudes style. I noticed that if you keep someone out too good with Guile it could work against you. Meaning someone will get so frustrated that they start getting desperate to get in. Sometimes I’m a little unprepared for that.
Congrats on your top 8 Branh! And congrats to Warahk for his NCR top 8 tonight…now get top 1 for us tomorrow!
It has taken me a long time to learn it, but believe in late lk flash kick if you have down charge.
Got second today in a small tournament, lost to Seth
If you’re having trouble understanding Guile’s normals check out the “Guile’s moves and attributes” sticky and this video I saw in that thread could help as well:
GGs to fire-tisane (and monsterer-). One round was so intense, the game had to stop the match altogether! Although, some might argue it was lag caused by the distance between our two countries.
Won my first tournament today, it was a small one run by the gaming club on campus–I won a Ryu action figure signed by the voice actor heh.
Competition wasn’t terribly impressive for the most part (only like 2 people really knew what was going on), but hey, still feels good haha.
way to rep fellas! keep up the hard hits!!
Good stuff dude, a win is a win!
Yeah, it turns out there’s a good handful of people around campus that really love the game but felt like they had no one to play with that was any good, so I’m going to be helping people level up every wednesday night over there. I’m certainly not the best (though getting better), but I can at least show them the basics and where to get more information. I might have to buy a 360 stick though sigh…
I would like to congratulate warahk and lamerboi for their performance this past weekend. Warahk made 7th place and showed his flawless linking abilities among extremely good players. Good job buddy! Also he put up some advance combotorium shit against dalsim in the corner, I couldnt stop watching it over and over again.
That combo was awesome… could’ve done without the announcers openly hating on Guile, but whatever.
Random: Anyone else getting instantly kicked out of lobbies because folks online don’t want to play against a Guile user? Seems like I’m getting tons of this as of late… I’m assuming these people are noobie 12 year olds, but I wasn’t aware that Guile was such a hated character (especially since he’s probably the most pure SF character left in the game :P).
I hate fighting Guiles…pretty much because my main (T. Hawk), can’t put up with a barrage of fireballs all too handily. I don’t boot Guile plays any different than anyone else (If I’m running an endless and someone is effortlessly crushing everyone, I will boot them and send a message, but this rarely happens), but I do try to avoid Guile players if I’ve been getting whipped horribly.
Thanks Monsterer, i appreciate it. I HATE LOSING!!
Seriously that was some pretty solid shit Warahk.
