SSF4 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (Old)

Dudley - EX Machine Gun Blow is punishable with mantis super on block. Gekiro as well, and I’d recommend it if you cant super. You can also punish with mp and whatever else you wanna combo into after that, I usually do mp mk hands. And crane c.mp to hp roll. You have to be careful with those though cause a lot of dudleys like to mash out ultra or uppercut after because its easy to mess up the timing on punishing with mp.

Lot’s of dudleys seem to think they can jump all day because of their godlike jumpin attack with that elbow. However, Gen’s AA is more godlike and I’ve found crane c.hk pretty much closes that door for them. Depends on the distance but crane c.hk seems to be at the best position where they like to jump at.

Other than that, just zone em out, I like to still use mk to hands a lot in this matchup cause he really cant do much to get in, and if he starts doing his standing hp I just start focusing, or throwing him when he dashes in.

He can be difficult to deal with if he does get in, just watch for overheads and block, don’t try and mash anything out and just be patient when he does get in, I’d also suggest avoiding to attempt to tech throws, eat one or two if you have to, but he has a lot of good ways to setup counterhits, so eating a throw is much better than eating a giant combo into ultra.

I’ll add this. do me a fave when I do delete this. Please read. I asked people to PM any match-up info, It keeps the forum clean.

ok, i dont feel so bad about jag kick pressure any more after seeing jwong get beaten by it.

i did find that s.mp (m) stuffs it sometimes but trades others. maybe take the trade to make him at least think about it???

sorry guys been slack with updating this thread. Damn I’m having the same problem as you Mike with Adon’s Jaguar Kick. It comes out too fast to Gekiro it. And you can’t Focus Attack it. It’s pretty much safe on block. And a lot of really good Adon players use it a lot as pressure. It’s pretty much like Bison’s scissor kick. I can see now how Jwong got beat out. I just faced a similar Adon that played with a lot of damn Jaguar kicks I ended up winning the match and lost when I played him again, but he used it way too much and it was over whelming.

@tha massiah you can’t dash under it like you said earlier. It really is horrible.

cr0nt- no no. Sorry dash under his jumping cross ups.

I dunno why I put dash under it for both. My apologizes.

I’ve tried everything other than s.MP to stuff his Jaguar Kick and I can’t find anything.

Tried using HP hands?

Just a FYI. After some crazy testing. Rog’s jumping hit box is very small. Crane c.HK can easily miss. Especially if he uses Jumping Fierce. Mantis c.Fierce is better vs him. However it can be stuffed if the jump-in is from far way.

Just a tidbit in the Guy matchup I learned yesterday. Along with the other normals listed. Mantis c.HP pretty much owns Guys soul if he tries running shenanigans (Overhead and Slide)

Good advice on the counter hits. Dudley has a lot of them and they all hurt and stun well.

Backdash is a good option vs. dudley on the ground because he wants to play the high low game. Don’t abuse it though because he can OS ultra your ass. Ex gekiro is also a good option because dudley players like to press buttons and if you can get him to back off to try to punish it then the match will go way smoother. As before don’t abuse it because it’s obviously very punishable and dudley will make you hurt with at LEAST 350 dmg and a good amount of stun going straight into another mix up.

A lot of dudley players like to do standing rh xx lk duck to get back in your face after a blockstring. This is -3 so learn the timing in training mode(it’s a little awkward) and you can jab them out of it and probably get a lot of counter hits as well.

Moves like cr.mk that have really low hitboxes give dudley players headaches. He has no good low hitting footsie normal. This should be your main normal when he’s in range because it will go under his longest pokes(st.hp, fwd st.lp) Also react to ducks with this, but be wary of an empty duck ex upper or ultra if they feel you are abusing it too much. If you think that is cheesy think about this, it’s dudley, he’ll do anything to get in because once he is it can be game over for you.

You can punish duck followups with mk hands as the punch is -5 and the kick is -6. (also on this note realize that the fwd fierce, ducking punch, and st. fierce are all different buttons with different frame adv./disadv.)

Basically in this match just play chun li. Keep dudley out and you’re good. Don’t get aggressive unless you need to, which shouldn’t happen if you play the match right.

(please note that i have never actually played this match before. But this is coming from the perspective of a current dudley main and a real good vanilla gen player about what dudley’s character weakness’s are and what gen has that can deal with those types of moves from experience. I may add more later if something comes to mind)

mantis standing fierce actually works well against him too for whatever reason

Because I believe his hitbox is very narrow. But it’s funny how his Hit Box is open at his legs, yet KKK c.HK misses.

Actually Back dashing vs dudley when he has meter is totally insane. He will EX Machine Gun blow you all night.

That’s why I said don’t abuse it…If you try to block his mix up then you’re playing his game, you’re doing exactly what he wants you to do which is try to guess his mix up. If you backdash he has to drop the mix up game and instead focus on dealing with the backdash. In other words he has to play YOUR game. Anyways if you play right you shouldn’t be in this position anyways.

I wouldn’t even do that much, if at all. he can punish it hard just like rog does.

Then prepare to guess between two things which will lead to 300 dmg hella stun into another mix up which if it lands WILL stun you. After that you’re probably dead Just because a character CAN do something doesn’t make it practical, Ex mgb is 18 frames, not exactly ideal start up to hit a back dash. The only practical ways to deal with backdash on the ground is Fwd mk OS ultra and to do a late fwd hp on anticipation.

A comparison to rog isn’t fair, he has a MUCH easier time dealing with backdashes.

Look man i’m a dudley main and a gen main in vanilla. I’m trying to help you out. I know what both characters can and can’t do, there is literally nothing you can tell me that I don’t already know about each character.

help me out? I don’t need help with that. not dashing helps me out.

Probably because crane c.HK attacks almost directly above his head, and Rog’s hitbox will force him to jump in a way that c.HK misses his legs. Those two factors, combined with the fact that c.HK has insanely few active frames for an AA and the fact that c.HK’s hitbox doesn’t start at his toes (it’s visually deceptible), make you susceptible to miss c.HK. Something like mantis c.HP makes you lean forward, so that you will hit his legs.

ya just figured I’d let people know so they don’t try it when it counts.

You talk but you don’t listen.
