SSF4 Gen Combo Thread

Who cares, it’s good to have people talking about substantial shit again instead of HUR DUR GEN SUXORS LOL

Glad to see people (old ex-Gen mains and new) showing some interest again.

Actually yeah, you’re right. (Had to doublecheck my shit in the lab.)

[crane] j.hk > [mants] s.mp > [crane] c.mp > hp roll vs Akuma: 333 damage 496 stun (EX = 339 damage 550 stun)

[crane] j.hk > [mantis] s.mp > s.hp > hk gekiro vs Akuma: 328 damage 472 stun + knockdown

[crane] j.hp > [mants] s.mp > [crane] c.mp > hp roll vs Akuma: 326 damage 492 stun (EX = 333 damage 555 stun)

[crane] j.hp > [mantis] s.mp > s.hp > hk gekiro vs Akuma: 321 damage 465 stun + knockdown

My bad. :china:

Nice stun value combo, decent damage aswell (costs 1 bar, 13 hits)

[crane] j.hk x2 > [mantis] s.mp > s.mk > EX hands > s.mk > HP hands 334 dmg\530 stun

im having a hard time hitting s.mp > s.hp. Any advice?

It’s a hard link for sure, can’t really give any advice other than just practice alot as you’d do with any tight link.

Double tap the s.HP to get better odds of connecting. You can do the LK Gekiro follow-up with your thumb.

Also, you’ll never connect it to Ryu without a jump-in (I would likely think you are though, since you quoted the combo with a jump-in) if he leans forward after getting hit by s.MP. If he leans backward though, you’ll connect it. If your dummy is Ryu/Ken/Dan or any character similar, I would suggest practicing it on Gief or Honda first.

OMG I’m a little tired and trying to read some of this is causing my eyes to melt!

You mean CRANE crouching fierce goes underneath Sagat’s High fireball!!
Did anyone know this? That’s a BEAUTIFUL 180dmg punish for high tiger shots!

Really? I only remember getting countered out by high tiger shots for some reason.

That’s because there’s a 2-3 frame window where his hitbox is still high, but after the 3rd or 4th frame, his hitbox lowers, and you can hit him out of it CLEAN!

NOTE: this ALSO works against Akuma’s air-fireball, in which you can trade to your favor by nearly X2. It takes longer for the fireball to hit you since Gen’s hitbox is lowers… lol
This also works against Cammy’s “demon-flip” (sorry, but I don’t know the name), Gen’s hitbox lowers, so she can’t grab you, and she can’t sweep you because if you do it on reaction, you WILL hit them out of it. Have fun punishing Cammys and Sagat!

I like this idea, in fact, i’ve been doing that with another fellow Gen player.
And about getting critiqued…
@Warlike: I think the critique is important, just think of Bruce Lee and his disciples. He would always beat them until they got things right. We should keep that same mentality. It’ll help all of us. Different styles will allow us to adapt to different situations. Think of Jackie Chan and Drunken Master. I believe the same applies here.

@everyone: Feel free to add me, and hope you have a godlike 1-bar connection!

i knew someone would eventually come around. Any pad gens besides me out there? feel free to add me if your down for some sessions

Thanks for the tip. It puzzled me cuz I didn’t know I would get hit out by a high tiger shot during start-up of a crouching attack.

There is a thread on here for this very thing. I am in the xboxlive one if you want to get in some practice. hit me up.

There is about 4 Gen players that play pretty consistantly. Myself, Newtype, Dante, and someone else, I forget.

I never said it wasn’t, except judging from the past this Gen section is not exactly very good at building contructive critique, most of the times people get scolded. besides, I’m from Europe so that’s a no go already.

DanteValmont? Dude is Godlike. and that’s considering he doesn’t FADC nor do any fancy combos.
He’s VERY solid.

You can add me, i’ll spar with you =]

Yeah, I agree with you on constructive criticism.
People do get scolded, but I believe it’s the only way to get rid of bad habits.
Unless you go into training mode and get rid of them.

Once you get it consistently, Sagat won’t want to throw those fireballs, they will hesitate, and that’s when you have to get in there, and attack. but be careful with Tiger Upper. They’ll buffer it if they see that high tiger shots won’t work. So you kinda have to work your way around it.
