SSF4 Gen Combo Thread

I connected PPP s.MP, s.MK, xx Hands, FADC, c.LK, s.MP, KKK c.MP, xx Roll in a match the other day. I dunno what the damage is. I’ll have to test it.

as for the ppp c.lk, c.lk, c.lp, kkk c.lp xx lp roll Usually LP works best. Cuz characters like Ryu MP, HP and EX miss them

posted this one on pg 5, and thats a cr.mp in the vid zukku, not a jab

ah thought i read something about it, but wasnt sure. c.mp - even better. thought it was a c.lp cuz of the lp roll.

Tried KKK j.hkx2 PPP st.mp, st.mk~EX-Hands, c.HK. Tested on standing characters only since j.HK part usually needs to be omitted when the opponent is crouched. Tried only 20 times for each character, so this list can be proven wrong.

Not working on:
Sakura (sweep whiffs, c.HP works)
Juri (sweep whiffs, c.HP works)
Guile (sweep whiffs, c.HP works)

Slightly harder on:
Sagat (wtf)
Adon

After this, I immediately went back to vanilla for a while and tried the same combo to Sakura and Guile. While the sweep part did not whiff, it didn’t count as a combo either. I’m guessing super EX hands has slightly longer knockback compared to vanilla EX hands, but not as much as vanilla HP hands.

Very newb Gen question here:

So I’m learning Gen and I’m having a hard time comboing from Crane to Mantis, that is let’s say I land a j.mk cross-up in crane, after I press PPP, land and try to go for a combo from there. For some reason it seems really random, like I’ll land in mantis stance only half the time. I’ve tried tapping ppp multiple times before I land too to make sure it reads the input and it still is random. Am I just an idiot or is there some sort timing to this?

ok are you using a stick or controller? If you use a controller I’m assuming you are using KKK and PPP as a single button. If you are using a stick are you pressing all three buttons? YOu might be plinking them. Also test this. Do your Crane j.MK cross up and switch to Mantis. Don’t try to attack, do you switch stances at all? If so, you are trying to combo mantis normals too soon.

Got a fightpad and I’ll land in crane stance a lot of times.

something is messed up man. I have no problems with my arcade stick using only 6 buttons. I do NOT use 1 button PPP or KKK. I hate them. And I land in Mantis all of the time. The only time it doesn’t look like I do, is when I play online and I get stance lag. Try another button or controller man. Something is up.

Go to training mode, do the j.MK -> stance change that the messiah mentioned while the input show option is on. Observe and see if the game reads PPP all the time. Also, do you land and stay in the crane stance, or does Gen change his stance to mantis right after he lands?

Yeah upon further review in training mode I think I was somehow plinking PPP and mp. Before I used to input something like j.mk, PPP~s.mp, but switching to j.mk~PPP, s.mp I’ve been able to combo it consistently. These shortcuts sure are screwy sometimes, but thanks guys.

no problem.

I am still having a hard time FADC’ing into (mantis)st.strong so that I can combo (mantis)st.forward->fierce.hands. For example I should be able to do: (mantis)j.forward(cross-up)->(mantis)st.strong->(mantis)st.fierce(1-hit)->fierce.hands->FADC->(mantis)st.strong->(mantis)st.forward->gekiro(short). I just can’t hit that damn link after FADC. Is it really that tight?

FADC in combo is not my friend, but afaik it’s supposed to be a 2-frame link if you dash at the earliest possible moment.

Yes it’s tighter than in Vanilla. What I do is I hold forward the whole time. When I FADC I press forward once. It’s just like if you were walking forward and a they threw a projectile at you, all you have to do is press Focus Attack then forward once to dash out. As long as you hold forward when you are pressing MK+MP, it will count as the 1st forward, then press it once more then it counts as the 2nd that is required to dash out. So saying that, if I’m using MK as a poke to go into hands this is what it would look like if I was on the left side facing to the right.

:r::mk:, :r: xx Hands, :r::mk:+:mp:, (N) :r:, :r::mp:

Now just because you see :r: before each input. The :r: with (N) beside it is the only time I release the stick to allow it to go neutral.

I hope this is clear

Here is exactly what I mean.

Not sure if anyone has ever used this to lead into Mantis Ultra 2. When you select Ultra 2, sometimes you don’t get many openings. But I used this after Mantis MK, xx Hands, FADC, c.LK, s.MP, Crane c.MP, xx Roll, Level 2 Focus Attack, Mantis Ultra 2. So I made a video. I know the whole FA after Roll to get a crumple isn’t new, but not sure how many people have actually thought to use the Ultra 2 after it. I’ve seen a few videos where a Gen player had it stocked, but after the FA crumple they went into another combo.

why not use u1 ? : D would hit aswell.

Ich weiß, dass ultra 1 verwendet werden kann. Dieses ist eine andere Wahl.

I sometimes use u2 after roll EXFA crumple, but not with lvl2 FA. I actually use it after blocked roll, and release EXFA right away after the last hit is blocked. Because it is not a perfect blockstring, it’ll register as a CH on jab mashers. If it connects as I want it to, I dash in and mash mantis U2 if I can’t combo it with crane U2.

EX Focus Attack.
