SSF4 Gen Arcade Changes

Just the fact that so many people are dropping rufus, chun, and other bad matchups (and picking up the twins, who I think gen has a 5-5 to a 6-4 against) probably accounts for a lot of wins. The nerfs to other characters benefits Gen greatly.

5-5? Really? Yuck. I hate that match-up so much. Or I just suck against him.

While I can deal with Rufus or Cammy pressure, Yun is a new kind of monster whose dive seems to ruin all of my options. Guessing wrong on which way his ambiguous cross-up dive kick or judging the distance incorrectly for a successful AA poke means you eat a highly damaging combo that can send you farther into the corner or put you in the same situation. When he’s spamming me, the LP+LK+HK OS doesn’t seem to work and he’ll just hit me again if I try to backdash. With the constant blocking and shoulder/lunge punch combos, it only takes a few lucky guesses to get Gen into the corner, and man, do I hate Gen in the corner, especially when his EX Gekiro seems to always lose to any of Yun’s cross-up antics. The only real thing that seems to work out well for me in this matchup is doing jumping neutral attacks, like crane j.HK or j.MP on the way down, since it seems to beat out their up kicks, or just get lucky with Oga shenanigans.

Also, does palm beat oga? Like, if a Yun was hanging out fullscreen building meter, would a normal forward oga beat it or is that thing’s hitbox just too good?

Again, it could just be me, or the high caliber of the Yun’s I’ve played (Texas’ own Hsien Chang, Viet, Fubarduck, etc.)

Yun is designed to reek havoc up close, so I don’t think its necessarily a bad match for Gen, it’s bad for anybody at that point. Gen just has a lot of ways to deal with twins before they get in. S. Mp will destroy any close dives, and s. Hk will for any distant dives. Throwing out an lk gekiro when Yun jumps is pretty safe too. If he dives, you win. If he neutral jumps, you will land before he can hit you. Just run away from yun like he’s Zangief. Cause a Yun in is a Yun win!

I dont see Zangief up there, isnt he supposed to be what Daigo was worried about?

Gief is very scary… I played a Gief at CTF that blew my Gen up, his mixups after EX greenhand in the corner are crazy

If you eat an EX green hand in the corner as Gen, you lose, period. Pre OR post-nerf green hand, it makes no difference. That said, I’ve never had any problems with Gief players as Gen, Gief has no viable anti-air against Gen’s awesome air game. Just bait the hell out of those neutral jump headbutts and crouching lariats with Oga cancels and your own neutral jump pressure. I find that the EX green hand nerf makes the matchup easy, personally.

After you filter out the Yun spam all you can really say character-wise is that it is a pretty random mix at the top right now. Not really suitable for making character quality judgments except to say Yun is likely very good (obviously).

Zangief works extremley well against Yun. Unfortunately, not against the majority of the cast. Besides, who knows how many pro Giefs dropped him with SSF4 AE.

You do have a point, still, the Beast dictated so in my mind that Zangief would still be a huge threat. There are probably aspects of his gameplay I or we are not completely familiar with… then again, he has shown he and virtually most of the professional playing community are not familiar with Gens playstyle. Amyiu and Nu seem to be the only two interacting with pro players these days.

I expect to see a Zangief up there once AE is available to the entire community… Any character that can knock gen out in a few hits is a threat

Zangief players need to shut the hell up, they act like he’s useless because of the ex greenhand nerf but they seem to forget the U2 buff and more importantly the ridiculous range on his spd now. He’s fine.

Well, as a Zangief player myself, I can’t for the life of me understand WHY they buffed that SPD at all. It was amazing before, and it’s ridiculous good now. That U2 is one of the best in the game too with it’s new properties, and more than compensates for his lack of anti-air options. (As long as you have the Ultra ready.) The fact remains though that many people seem to think that EX green hand was a buff, but it really is a complete nerf. When I get that knockdown at pointblank as a Gief player, I win. Crossup games and frame traps all day. However, like his regular green hands, the EX ones aren’t completely safe on hit now. The question is whether or not your character has a good punish to them, or if you can guess the mix-up afterwards if you don’t. Gief vs Gief matches are pretty hilarious now, since landing ANY green hand results in the attacking player eating a PAINFUL punish.

It been a month, so maybe Gen really is awesome!

so anyone with access to the AE got an idea of how much damage the HP-MK target combo deals?

it would be 70+60 if they didnt change the damage, but thats unlikely for a TC

I’m going to guess 70+30. No reason behind it.

Just wanted to say that when looking at this video, Gens meter gain really looks better. He uses his super at the end of round 2, then he’s almost back to a full bar at the end of round 3 (including the bar he burns for EX hands). And it’s not from taking damage either. I’m sure the people that have actually played AE knows more about this, but since this Gen doesn’t use the target combos at all, that can’t be the reason either. Or maybe I’m just imagining things.

looks about the same in that video. all the rounds were long with both players attacking a lot
