I think we all must realize complaining/ranting about Gen will never get us anywhere nor anything…might as well continue to ride this train until the wheels fall off or just leave now lol.
Yea. Isn’t AE going to be the last version of SF4? You guys may as well give up on the suggested changes. It’s gone gold son. Part of me hopes that those are the only changes in the dev blog so that the whiners will finally leave.
The whining has ceased for over a page now. In fact, there is more whining about the whining than there is whining about Gen.
Just sayin’…
Why do we have to whine about whiners who whine. Jeez I wish you guys would stop whining. /whine
>.>
<.<
I’m still pumped to be playing Gen. He’s too cool to drop for being difficult imo.
I’m talking about all the whining since SSF4 came out. I’ll leave it at that though cause I don’t want to drag this thread into the cesspool again.
lol.
im pumped that I’ll get free damage when I do c.lk 4 times and on the 4th time TC into c.mk => lk.gekiro
Trolololololol footsies!
I wouldn’t rule out tweaks for AE come the unconfirmed console release. Hell, could potentially be the last chance for Capcom to fix bugs, balance tweaks etc.
Considering that with digital service to arcade and net connections and the whatnot, future balance patches for the AE could potentially come out down the pipeline.
Just in general, it’s easy to sit back and say “stop whining, bitching, moaning” and then leave it to others to voice the problems that plague a character, it takes more guts to put yourself out there and try and constructively find a solution to a problem, that’s just life. When somethings wrong, it’s a much healthier attitude to address a problem and try and find a solution before just mindlessly accepting what comes your way.
The Gen players from Vanilla~Super had a right to be so upset and the right to find a place to try and find some answers, same goes now for AE and when these complaints come from some of the top players and not just the middle and lower tiered players of a community I would definitely think it’s worth reading and discussing what happened and why.
If you guys don’t agree with someones opinion then fine, no ones forcing you to. But players of the community including myself and your good selves are entitled to ask questions from Capcom and request changes, so long as its constructive there’s no problem and a very large portion of the complaints from Vanilla ~ Super were justified and sympathized with by the wider community.
I can’t count how many times I’ve met a new player face to face and then after they have opened up a conversation on “Man I don’t know why they nerfed Gen in Super, it’s not like he was all that strong to begin with” or a variance on that. I would think that as Gen players that conversation would have come up with you guys at some point as well.
Ragging on the folks who had complaints in hindsight is pretty weak. We may not have gotten the changes we were after come AE, that wouldn’t make them any less necessary than if Capcom had made them. I can’t say that I’m going to blindly turn another Gen player away and tell them to leave simply because they are upset, we aren’t a huge body to begin with and if there’s a chance to help a niche character player base grow then sometimes you just have to put up with it.
Standing up and making yourself accountable for your words is what is important.
Hopefully there are some changes that are undocumented that give Gen a “Competitive Edge” like he had in Vanilla. There’s a lot of people anxiously waiting on AE and a Q&A on the dev blog next week, so some problems that were raised in this thread could be answered, if not there’s always the option to get stuff sorted out down the road via interviews and hopefully it’s not just a Gen player who is going to ask them.
But being silent and just going along with things, telling others to be quiet won’t solve anything. I would have much preferred to see something like a solid counter argument in the other direction but since there isn’t one I’m still assuming that as a majority there are people who think there’s alot that could have / still be done with Gen, and Capcom has the power to answer that. So here’s hoping.
I think people need to start taking things with a grain of salt. Some people don’t have time to use type out a proper essay to express how they feel about the character and changes. Sometimes I fall under that category. So just because they are brief or don’t word it a way that may sound a bit more subtle, doesn’t mean they are trying to come off that way. Plus people pay for the game, they have every right to voice their opinion about changes as the next person.
Oh just to add. Mooseking is right. If you look back, people complained about Gens’ MK hands. That’s really one of the main reasons they removed it. If we just sit back and allow people to complain about our character that don’t even play him, Gen will probably end up worse off. basically we need to give as much input and voice our opinions as much as possible.
This is exactly what happened with Blanka, he is getting nerfs yet again.
Btw messiah, check your pm I sent some new match-up info!
Inorite!? Why does Blanka need to be nerfed?
On a side note, yes I agree it will be fun to troll people with cr.short spam into tc. I will much enjoy doing this to Bison players especially!
Well devs did say there would be no further nerfs, so there’s hoping unless they’re like “Oh we increased Gen’s Mantis Super start-up to 1+9 frames, but he has 3 more invincibility frames as a result, it’s buffed!”
Blanka nerfs are dumb imo, and I’m looking forward to Seth losing his jumping Dhalsim arm (no offense, other characters’ nerfs are Gen’s buffs). Most japanese guys are saying he lost his Dhalsim arm on neutral jump though. Never heard about back jump.
I can only hope that one of crane’s interesting changes is 3f crouching jab.
I have nothing in my PM box. Try again.
The fuck is this shit, I wrote an entire essay on Cammy with super+ultra punishes. D:
Oh well, can be bothered to rewrite something, I sent it like a week ago so I can’t really remember it at all.
Also, Seth losing his arms is fucking horrible, I’m not sure what Capcom are aiming to do here. They’ve also removed Seths U1 ability to go through fireballs… it now just hits the fireball. Which was the whole purpose of that ultra.
i think you and a few others need to come to grips with the fact that gen was a pretty stupid character back in vanilla. things will get easier for you from there. you cant take what the tier lists used to say about any of the console characters with any seriousness.
gen only needed to do a tad more damage and build slightly more meter IMO, and the TC’s seem like they will fit that need for dmg, and we know nothing about how meter will be built for any character
im interested to hear what you, and other players who think like you, feel gen needed. im not an insider or anything, but i could probrablly tell you, in my opinion, why he didnt get a lot of things that were on a lot of the wish lists. also keep in mind that many things that make some of gens matchups tough are being adressed
i cant wait for how the tc play out and hopefully it not glitch like ibuki target combos. i swear to god i hate wiffing her punch tc on hit and then getting punish. plus mike is right either little more damage or he needs his escape tool back. i dont really care about meter but damn it sucks trades hits with someone who does more damage and has more heath.
There’s no way you can whiff tc’s 2nd hit based on which attacks he’s chaining to (s.MK and c.MK have much longer range than s.HP and c.LK, respectively. They also don’t whiff on crouchers.) unless you hit the extended dhalsim arm.
In all honesty, I do not think you could answer any question about why he didn’t get some things, just yet. We do not have a complete list of changes Gen had in SSF4 -> AE. Except for EX Oga invincibility, but I’m not interested in asking that. I might ask “why didn’t they return vanilla’s MK/HK gekiro hitbox back?” if they don’t have any change.
I’ll be honest and I can safely say that most of his SSF4 adaptions were fair, aside from meter/damage yadda yadda blah blah. And I hope that he will be this all-round, only better. The damage output and positional advantages for AE/DLC are pretty much unknown, since you can’t say for sure whether the normals and/or frame data have been changed.
I do hope for some easter eggs, like some more +frames on block for certain normals or adding more functionality to them. Crane s.LK comes to mind, with its -frames on hit AND block. All I can do with it is try and stop headbutts/balls in crane when s.HK gets too risky. There aren’t much other normals in the game without a clear purpose/effect. Logically you can’t use every button all the time, but these are the ones you can use in about 1/100 situations.
The (partial) meter depletion of another character with U2 mentioned in a certain post above is a crazy, but suitable idea. If the damn thing can’t act like the SFA3 DOT with stun on 0, then at least make the ultra worthwhile by reducing enemy options for a while. The grey damage would be cool if the game would treat that chunk as actual damage done, only recoverable. That would make the runaway/counter style more viable.
you are right, but thats why i said in my opinion. not that im right about everything or a know it all, but i would enjoy the discussion in a non trolling anti flaming respectable back and forth conversation
besides i was more directing it at the want for wake up options or hands loops or whatever. if you think about it, you can see pretty clearly what they were aiming for with their character designs
in regards to ex oga capcom dosent really want any character to have free escapes on wake up, even if they cost meter. akuma has one, but he also has 50 less health and stun. with the removal of coward tatsus, added recovery to certain teleports, and rose U2 nerfing, they are trying to take away free wake up options/pressure escapes. ex oga was as baitable as any reversal, but tough for most characters to punnish. in fact i wouldnt be suprised if akumas teleport ends up nerfed. at this point he has it simply because he has always had one
i dunno if they are doing anything to giekros or not. im not even sure that it was that much better back in vanilla honestly. maybe they wanted gen to use EX for a cure all AA in mantis, or they wanted us to mix stances more
Not sure if this has been covered, but theoretically it should be possible to combo into roll from the target combos as opposed to into Mantis specials, right?
i.e.,
- (prior hits of the combo) -charging :l:
- (mantis) :hp:
- :lk::mk::hk: (mk comes out due to target combo, you are in crane now)
- :r::p:
