SSF4 Gen Arcade Changes

myself personally thinks the tc’s will be another tool for comboing into super and thats all. if used in a hands combo it’d be as useless as mp,mp,mk hands, fadc,mp,mp,mk hands, fadc, ect…
scaling kills gen most in my oppinion. you can land your awesome combos all day long and not win lol…
strickly sleepy opinions lol. it’s 3am here.
im very please with makotos changes. i may get to use her now. i have a thing for weaker characters.

Ah, I see. Sorry for my ignorance.

I’m sure he’ll get one more info from a FAQ next week, but otherwise they’re pretty tight-lipped, I’m afraid. I’ll also be lurking in Japanese wiki/BBS to get some information after AE comes out.

I hope the FAQ question for next week is something like “Why do you hate us so much?”

dont worry guys and dont get your hopes up. they did not say anything on crane or any of his specials, remember it just a little bit of info. it just sucks that we have to wait to see what fully change. im glad they pointed out no nerfs for him tho. i think they got back some of the backlash.

also remember they gave us barley any info when super changes about him came out. when we got the game a lot change, although it was for the worse. it was changes we had no clue about, till super came out.

i honestly don’t think their gonna change anything else for him. if thats the case, im with newtype andy. i want my time back. infact, ill quit sf over this. if i can’t use and win with the character that ive worked day and night with then this is not my game.

yeah he WILL be better, ssf4 gen sucks so any buff will make him better. hmm at least he wasnt nerfed any further…

yeah the fact that he has NOTHING to “safe” wake up (like a dp) sucks so much ass. you have still to guess as much as in ssf4 meh. same start up for gekiro? :shake:

overall meh…

I fully understand that not even half the changes are posted on the blog, but I’m not about to place much faith in Capcom over the next 6 months or whatever the long duration may be we have to wait, just to be horribly mistaken (again).

Time taken to learn FADC from hands is priceless, just the time it took to re-modify Gen for competitive play is what cut a knife through me and even then he doesn’t have half the potential that he had in Vanilla. More Issues consistently popped up with Gen to the point where I’m left blocking like Sim on wakeup and Poking like a much weaker Chun that half the time I don’t feel like I’m playing Gen anymore.

I feel like I’m just zoning like every other character and if their answer to his issues we’re “here’s some target combo’s” then they dropped the ball again and If I hear a “we didn’t know such a problem existed” then there’s a whole brand new issue from me as someone who’s not only invested thousands of hours training as Gen but as someone who has traveled around Australia and looking at international tourneys for 2011, when you have a community who isn’t just spending the purchase price for the game, but also thousands of dollars on Sticks, parts, DLC & theme’s to support the game, community and company I love.

For Capcom to take not only the time spent training but the effort and costs that go into being a competitive player as a serious enough notion for excellent balance then I think that Capcom will get a very large smack in the ol’ face from me.

This isn’t 1996, balance is the be all and end all of competitive play and If you’re gonna have 36+ characters in a modern day fighter you better be damn sure that it’s balanced, if not then this better not be the last balance patch for the SFIV saga.

I’ll likely support SF, the communities and people involved with it until the day I die so I hope that Gen, Dan, Hakan, Makoto and all the other low tier folks become tournament viable, not Godlike, Not A-tier, VIABLE.

Solid wakeup and Jump arc fix. That was all he needed, he can have low damage output and every other ridiculous change from Vanilla but those are the two issues.

TC’s are just so hit confirms into super are more scrub mash friendly. Already have inputs for hands coming from that TC (don’t require timing on a link), just mash out the rest and roll down-to-forward repeatedly.

They gave him absolutely nothing to make him more competitive. Just made him more accessible to casual play. Heartbreaking to a specialist.

They had better have ninja’d in immense changes to the properties of his normals if they want the character to be taken seriously.

I don’t know who the fuck they hired to balance this out if they thought giving him TC’s were going to fix how slow/vulnerable/punishable/insignificant/gimmicky his attacks are.

The feeling I’m getting is that the "Battle Director’ and the balance team don’t pay enough respect to the rest of the cast, they have a very much Japanese-developer centric mentality of boosting the most marketable characters and aspects to help sell the game and keep the snafoos and less mainstream characters in the shadows where the hardcore are only likely to notice the negative aspects to the game.

Makoto’s changes don’t suprise me as she’s played competitively and has an extremely well in-built fanbase with 3s and competitive 3s players worldwide so fixing her reflects well on the game and lessons a negative comparison to 3s, however it feels sloppy that Dan is still unviable and even though he’s born from a Joke with SNK in the 90’s that stuff should remain with aesthetics in his attitude and attire and not a perma-low-tier.

Is the rest of the gaming community going to notice that Issues regarding a character like Gen are/have been/might continue to be overlooked? probably not. There’s a deadline for release and they need to meet it and rather than an active and involving approach to balance ala Sega Jp and it’s VF community our voices are muffled and legitimate issues are easy to look over.

I’d love to tour Capcom Jp and be proven wrong but somehow I think I might end up being proven right, pessimistic outlook but there ya go. 1 Year on and I’m back at square 1 with my feelings with Gen.

Perhaps Street11 or some other Japanese-understanding SRK member could submit a question for next week’s FAQ asking, on behalf of the Gen-playing community at SRK, “why there were no announced changes for Gekiro? As-is, Gen has no viable wake-up options. Making a character with the intention of him being ‘skillful’ or ‘technical’ does not mean that he has to be a horrible choice from a competitive standpoint.”

While I like what I saw, these improvements do nothing to address Gen’s weakness in waking up (as has been excellently pointed out).

btw could it be that s.mk hands ~ c.mp hands is possible now? one-framer?

i guess not but…

The buff to Mantis HK sounds nice, as well as cr mp. I’m hoping the changes will help vs footsie heavy fights and ground game wars (chun li, bison, ryu etc).

Will have to be tested to see how good it is vs ryus cr mk, or what difference it makes to getting to a good zone vs chunli and bison’s wall of limbs (I don’t think it will be enough though to affect the match up).

I too am curious about mantis lp. I wonder how much of a hit box improvement it got.

Such subtle changes.

The TC as people have mentioned may help with lowering the execution bar…
However both TC’s will need to be tested to see how they change his block string mixups or his range options on his block string/frame trap mixups.

TC2 might open up a new B&B that is a little bit more damaging and provides more meter gain.

edit - I wonder if there are more oppurtunities for crane U2 to be comboable now (U1 still looks supreme otherwise)? Who knows. These changes are really ambiguous. .

Calling it for land resets, Lk Lk TC2~Lk Gekiro…something like 150 points… maybe a little less.

C.lp, S.Mp,S.mk, Lk gekiro is 210 on average

The changes to normals = good, but still… so many other things needed to come first.

PS Andy, get 360 already.

Christmas is coming man! There is space under my tree :stuck_out_tongue:

edit:

c lk, c lp, HP, hk gekiro is ~ 200 damage already…Which is pretty good off a c lk that is fairly good for throw teching. I’m hoping clk clp hp~mk lk gekiro does more damage.

My personal wish list for Gen is for better tools vs those match ups that feel 7-3. I hope there is still more info to come.

It sounds like this set of info hints at a slight change between the Abel and Gen match up. Definately gives him a bit more breathing room.

Those Makoto changes sound scary for someone like Gen. Sure you can keep your head on and play footsies to keep her zoned…but her changes make it sounds like that you will die if she gets into her sweet spot. You’d better guess right! I find her options at that range more terrifying than most of the cast due to her stun and knockdown potential vs Gen.

The changes to guy’s cr lk will also give him a rock to your scissors at that range (much like chunli’s does :\ and now maybe Cody’s too gah. Gah?!?!).

Gouken’s air-air normals property and damage buffs look good too and change the match up a little (hopefully not too much lol).

Still waiting for what info will come for Dictator and Sagat.

no its actually a little little little bit shorter (and 2 frames slower) than sMK but it has better priority

anyway now that it has a faster startup it should be way better as a poke move, canceled into hands

about the update…
i cant say i’m disappointed with the changes (at least nothing bad up til now) BUT with all due respect, all blogs update so far were very poor in contents and probably most changes on characters still have been omitted

Most of the Blog was for mantis…i didn’t see any “Crane” Changes Seth was talking about. Guess i’ll have to test stuff myself to find out… S.mp into Cr.mp possible now if you decide not to do s.MP into TC hp-mkhands/gekirou because your too far… go with mp-mp-cr.mp for extra 10 dmg

Anyone else want to theorycraft match ups? The cammy changes look interesting. Its going to be hard when she has you in her block strings and frame trap, tick throw mixups.

word

not to mention that meterless versions fuckin suck as AA while in vanilla besides the slow startup they had a nice hitbox

as a bad player, im pretty ok with these changes.

the resident gen players here who are disappointed with the changes are what make me worry about the future of gen.

still pretty optimistic about AE gen though, no nerfs, only buffs, that can’t be bad…except the person i play against the most plays makoto, and makoto is scary enough for me as is, her changes may make me use chun more.
