SSF4 Dudley Match-up Thread

Shit we need an answer to that ASAP.

Golden_Gunman, we need another writeup on how to beat -15 frame attacks.

Finally let’s say you do get up close. You need to keep on Dhalsim’s ass like a clingy stalker to a celebrity. Learn to OS Liver Blow with Jet Upper and Rolling Thunder, so that if Dhalsim does teleport or dash backwards, you snuff him out. If you go for a cr.LK and he telports backwards, you normally still have time to react with EX Machine Gun to spoil his fun. Learn to OS Jump in HP / HK with Machine Gun Blow for the same reasons, keep up the pressure without letting him get out.

Whats the OS mean >.>?

Also, to add to the Blanka match-up

-EX MGB Punish’s all balls, period. (including EX)
-HP MGB can punish Some of his normals.
-The J.RH can sometimes beat out Electricty, im still testing around though.

I think this is one of Dudley’s easiest match ups, Since… You can EX MGB EVERYTHING

Can you give a list of some/all of the normals that you can punish with MGB?

Yes, ill get right to that

Don’t forget, all versions of Cross counter beats Blanka’s electricity even EX.
You can also punish it with sweep > ducking upper.

so was testing out some char specific punishes today.

cody:

punish point blank lp criminal upper with c.lp, s.rh xx ex mgb punish slightly less than point blank with c.lp xx jab mgb, and max range (just the tornado hits) is safe.

fierce criminal upper is free ultra (either), at any range. point blank s.rh is free.

ex criminal upper, either ultra is free at point blank or range 2, absolute max range (only tornado hits) you can get full rolling thunder, or 1 hit of jab mgb, but the way he recovers, not all the hits hit, and he can probably punish you.

lk ruffian, all but max range s.rh is free or rolling thunder but towards the tip it’s completely safe…not to mention it breaks focus, pretty annoying move, think of it as a better bison slide that breaks focus.

mk ruffian, absolute max range is free rolling thunder, just a little closer s.rh is free.

hk ruffian either ultra is free on block, but dudley straight up crouches this move on whiff try landing sweep into rh ducking upper.

ANY zonk = free ultra 1 or 2…very notable. normal zonk on block = c.mp xx jab/mp ducking upper…depending on how many frames u want after. or if u need that tiny bit of damage. u can do c.mp xx mk duck xx super too.

Ok so,

-Punish Blanka ball with either a HP MGB or an EX MGB, It has strict timing but its easy to get the hang of. perferablly EX MGB. Another option is Duck Punch follow-up. It WONT hit him, but youll be in his face.

-Blanka’s pokes so far seem safe, The Longest poke (His slide) Cant be punished by a MGB, he sweeps you.

-The only poke That is punishable besides the slide is his HP. If your close enough you can LP MGB him. If your too far for that, just Duck and get to him.

-If Blanka is in the corner with you he loses. Any ball can be punished with either a Duck Any follow-up, an EX MGB and ever a ST.HK, EX MGB ect ect. I couldnt test the F.MK with it so if you want experiment.

-None of dudley’s pokes can counter poke his pokes on block, he just pushes Dudley to far away. Best option is to just use Duck HP follow-up

-His ultra is punishable either way. Just Corkscrew it after blocking it, or EX MGB Ect…

Hope this helps some

I’ve played a few zangiefs today and I’m starting to understand that matchup a bit. All you have to do is just stay back and use st.fp every time he gets close, it pretty much all of his normals and all of his jump in from what i noticed, sometimes jump ins will trade if he got to close but it will push him far enough the that he can’t grab you.

From what I experienced playing my friend’s T.Hawk, the matchup doesn’t actually seem that hard. Condor dives are easy to punish on block, especially with rolling thunder, so smart Hawk players probably won’t even try it if you’re on the ground. As for the general strategy, the problem most people face with grapplers I think is that they’re really afraid to get in close (which is certainly reasonable). But seriously, that’s the only place Dudley does any damage, so you’re gonna have to get in and get over it, even if it’s just for a brief time. Stay just out of throw range and use your pokes intelligently. On occasion, it’s good to bait a throw and use SSB, but for the love of god don’t make this a habit or you WILL get command grabbed if SSB is blocked. Since Dudley’s crazy up close pressure game doesn’t matter much here, feel free to back up a little and relax. This entire match is about not getting command grabbed, because Dudley pretty much has an answer for everything else Hawk does.

I can collaborate with this information. I’ve played a few Zangiefs myself and found s. HP is very important for zoning Gief out. The author of this thread should definitely make a note of this under the Zangief tab.

having a lot of trouble with vega, cant seem to get in close and hes jumping/wall diving all over the shop. vegas always been a hard fight for me for some reason i just cant seem to defend myself againts his wall dives.

any tips much appreciated. cheers.

Dudley’s fierce punch is useful standing or crouching. it can beat out Honda’s headbutt, it can beat claw’s rolling crystal flash, his sky high claw, flying barcelona attack, and c.fp can beat dictator’s head stomp and devils reverse as well as his ultra II. very useful against people who like to spam these moves.

Bison is super annoying. I use st.fierce to keep long distance/mid screen scissor kicks in check, but if he’s fast, it loses to his sliding sweep. Once Bison gets in on you, which is relatively easy for him to do, I can’t seem to do anything. I can’t punish his scissors, really. He does his lk scissors, cr.lk, rinse repeat. I have to guess and try to ex.dp my way out of trouble. Most decent Bisons I’ve seen also use st.hk/mk and unless I was hitting with my glove, it beat everything I could think of.
Any tips on Bison?
Also, for Adon, on a blocked Jaguar Tooth (off the wall thing), I can’t figure out how to punish him at all. He is free to just st.rh or whatever he wants while I just sit there. The only thing I can figure out to do against it is duck under if I’m around midscreen, j.rh before he even makes it to the wall, or a well placed dp/ex dp will beat it.

It just feels like Dudley has to work really hard in some of these matches. Chun, Guile, DJ, Adon, Sim, Bison are really hard so far, for me. Vega and Rufus are also super aggravating for me as well. Vega because he just seems to be able to outpoke everything I do, and Rufus because you absolutely cannot jump at him, while when he scores a knockdown, your reversals are ass and it’s hard to stop the pressure strings. Anyhow, I foresee many months of practice.

Would Thunderbolt be of any use in any of these matchups? I always forget I have that move available.

Great thread but defo needs to have announcements when spec characters are updated, like what someone said earlier. pain in the ass the traul through them all to find out whos been updated

keep up the top notch work tho!

ALSO just to add:

Adon: His Jaguar Tooth (off the wall) can be countered with Corkscrew Cross if you time it so he is in the air on the way to you. On the wall is too early.

On a block Jag Tooth, Ive been able to pull of a few c.lp, but im not great. But in theory couldn’t you do something like c.lp > c.lp > s.hp > ex.mbg? or another special, or even just a target combo? not tested this but will do today at some point.

Vega can be dealt with in the same way by all characters. For those wall jumps a well timed jump attack will swat him like a fly. Try j.mp, or neutral j.mp or neutral j.hp. I haven’t played vega yet but I’m sure these should work. If you miss time it he will izuma drop you. On the other hand you can focus absorb those wall dives and dash in the direction he landed in. The recovery for him is horrible so you get free anything at that point.

A well played cody is imo, the hardest dudley matchup (tied with chun)

At mid range you are totally helpless, he dominates you with his superior pokes and forces you come to him with bad stone.

At this range he can outpoke you with st.mk, sweep and mp and others. Sweep whiffs can be punished by ruffian kick.

Few cody players figured the tech traps/safe jumps he has, but if you think ryus combo into sweep and safe jumps are ridiculous you dont know what cody is capable of doing. Once you are knocked down he has every single time a 100% safe jump on you unless you have meter, at this point its just a gamble.

You can stuff the safe jump only with EX srk, but if he blocks you loose 30% of life. If you try to tech and he doesnt throw there goes a good 20% of life and another safe jump. If you tech you are again in a position where cody has the constant advantage.

If you manage to knock him down and he has 3 stocks your options and rick/reward are hurt, and a lot. If you go for overhead or throw and he guess right, there goes the round. If you meaty a c.lk (going fot the c.lk, c.lp , Hk,etc…) you can react and block most of the time.

If you let him at any point of the match get the knife, good luck. The best thing Ive found its a quick focus so he looses it but he has lots of ways to prevent this.

Most cody players still doesnt know what kind of retarded frame traps/safe jumps this character has, give it a few weeks and you will see.

Thats what I was talking about, get ready to tech a throw and lose 50% of life just to be safe jumped again
