SSF4 Dudley Match-up Thread

Maybe I’m wrong, but that didn’t look like a very good Dhalsim, and I’ve played good Sim’s. He didn’t even try to punish any of Dudley’s jump ins or use any effective zonig techniques like the fire>fierce. He also didn’t really punish a lot of Dudley’s unsafe stuff.

hey guys i need a little help with Vs Vega…

whats the best way to stop him from jumping all around? and is there a guaranteed punish after you block one of his dive things?

I asked the same thing; turtle Cody is a nightmare. His EX-tornado seems like a pretty safe way for him to make space when he wakes up.

Well >.> Sim gives me hell and back… Even playing Dudley 3rd strike style i have alot of problems

do not get knocked down by an ibuki with good mixups

DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN.

this matchup feels like the old Oro vs Dudley match back in 3s.

My first post on SRK in quite some time. I’m enjoying SSFIV even more than Vanilla, but that’s off-topic.

At the risk of giving away trade secrets (I’ve been maining Sim and enjoying using him, though I wish Ultra II was more useful :stuck_out_tongue: ), get in close early and often. Get Sim in the corner and he becomes an easier fight, as his range is taken out of play and quick reflexes can punish an attempt to Yoga Teleport to safety.

Dhalsim

Reccomended Ultra: Rolling Thunder

This is a match-up that is hard on paper, but very winnable. The key here is to knock down Dhalsim and a key phrase you’ll need to apply in order to do this is “calculated risk.” Dhalsim can keep you out with his long pokes, but Dudley has a number of good tools to deal with these. Standing LP can beat out his high attacks, just keep bulldogging forwards and tap jab every now and again to slowly move forwards. Crouching LP / MP does the same for low attacks. An occasional Cross Counter is a good option too, as long as Dhalsim does not have Super or Ultra 2, even if he telports on reaction, there’s not much he can do. Don’t forget about your Focus Attack too. From long range, focus and dash afterwards to close the distance big time. And you can LV2 focus fish from afar too, the reward is massive if it pays off.

Use whiffed Liver Blows to move fowards slowly but surely. During the recovery of Dhalsim’s limbs, You can get in ne or two to close up to him.

Yoga Fire’s can be duck / duck uppercut / duck straighted from the right ranges. Dhalsim’s Yoga Fire takes a long time to recover from so make him get really twitchy trying to throw them out. Duck Straight -> Super is a big threat to Dhalsim if you have it stocked.

Next let’s talk Rolling Thunder. This is a great ultra against Dhalsim. You can go through Yoga Fire’s, limbs and even punish certain limb attacks with it. Once you have it, things become dangerous for Dhalsim. Focusing at the start of the round to build up your revenge gauge is plenty worthwhile for Dudley in this match-up.

So let’s move onto “calculated risk” even with all of the above, it can still often feel very stifling to play against a good Dhalsim. You’ve got a few tricks you can apply that whilst risky, can score you the knockdown you need to kill Dhalsim. First up are Jet Uppercuts and EX Jet Uppercuts, which can be used to beat out limbs and score a knock down. It’s well worth throwing out the occasional LP or even EX Jet to keep Dhalsim modest in his limb throwing. Second trick is FADC Ducking. If Dhalsim throws a Yoga Fire from afar, He might think that the only thing you can do is Duck Under without hitting him. Ducking FADC adds a lot more range and although you can’t punish him, you’ll get a mixup of high / low / throw / block / whatever. Third trick is Step Straight FADC. This is almost the same principle as Ducking FADC, but from a much closer range. It gets you right up to him which is where you want to be.

Finally let’s say you do get up close. You need to keep on Dhalsim’s ass like a clingy stalker to a celebrity. Learn to OS Liver Blow with Jet Upper and Rolling Thunder, so that if Dhalsim does teleport or dash backwards, you snuff him out. If you go for a cr.LK and he telports backwards, you normally still have time to react with EX Machine Gun to spoil his fun. Learn to OS Jump in HP / HK with Machine Gun Blow for the same reasons, keep up the pressure without letting him get out.

Overall, if you’re familar with the 3S player Kokujin, that’s the stlye of play you need here. If you keep solid and try to play the patient distance game, you’ll lose because Dhalsim is just superior in every way at doing that to Dudley. You need to get him on the floor as soon as possible so that you expose his weak wakeup game. Play patient to begin with, but as soon you “feel” your opponent’s style of play, take those calculated risks to get in. Dudley can take a decent amount of damage from Sim, but Sim cannot afford to let Dudley to his thing. Use that to your advantage!

Hi guys.

I’m planning on playing some Dudley in Super, and as a guy who’s manned a match-up thread before, I have to say… you guys might wanna start over with this thread.

For one, OP only reserved 2 posts. If you want this thread to be worth anything, and have actual decent information, 2 posts for a game with 35 characters is nowhere near enough. I started an Abel match thread for SSF4, and I reserved 13 posts. I’m not sure that’s gonna be enough. Now, I definitely pack more information into my threads than other do… no question… but still… 2 posts? No way that’s gonna be enough, and what’s gonna happen is that you won’t be able to keep the first posts updated with information, so everything is gonna be a cluttered mess, with people having to search into page 37 in this thread to find the specific information they need, that really should be in the first posts.

Secondly, the thread should clearly be called “Let’s Fight Like Gentlemen”. That’s kinda a no-brainer

Just my 2 cents.

The thread names are all stupid, but this is fine.

As for Ryu, what … out turtle him? Tendency to mash shoryu when trying to apply pressure means I get to sit there looking pretty most of the time. Of course, Rolling Thunder works when your opponent is fireball happy but I haven’t run into many of those. Hmm

13 Posts!?

Is there a limit for how many letters a post can be? Even so, I couldn’t possible imagine having to have a post for every two characters, that’s nuts.

If the problem is about organization, I’m using the spoiler system.

Please explain to me why I would need that many posts.

I didn’t say you needed 13 posts. I said I did. Again… if you look at my previous thread that I linked, it’s obvious I pack a LOT of information in.

But yes, there is a character limit per post. If you plan on having this thread be worthwhile, and organized, 2 posts cannot possibly be enough.

Again… not saying you need 13… but 2 definitely won’t cut it.

Need some help with Honda matchup. All of my moves get stuffed by headbutt. N. j.HP stuffs my approach. If I do get in I just get pushed out again by headbutt. I know its a bad idea approaching when Honda has meter, just get him to waste meter and also he’s vulnerable to crossups and probably tickthrows. I just can’t figure out a gameplan…

The best thing I can suggest is punish hard when you’ve blocked his headbutt (Rolling Thunder is super sexy here) but other than that… look out for his Ochio mixup game when close, try not to eat a bunch of st.RH or HP’s from him (since they rape) and RTSD when he’s not sitting on meter.

thawk can ultra on mgb, even when it hits him.

Are you sure? I couldn’t get that to work at all.

Well considering LP MGB is +2 on hit, if Thawk’s ultra isn’t -2 frames of startup, it cannot crab you.

Yeah, the Ibuki match-up is pretty hardcore. If she gets a knockdown Dudley has no options to escape but to block a really scary mix-up game.

st.mk anti-air beats most of her jump ins.
jump back fierce works wonders when she tries to get her mix ins started.
if you block an ex dp, lvl 2 focus covers all options and punishes.
don’t back dash too much. she can punish backdashes with her ground command grab sweep.
if u block the grab sweep, punish hard so she’s reluctant to do it again.
i advise using Corkscrew Blow since it eats a lot of her jump ins and easy combo ultras are good for low life characters.
block. a lot. and know how to option select tech grab. you have to learn her mix-ups and how to block them before u can do this match.

been playing a lot online. it seems to be really hard to… dominate a person… per say with Dudley. like i can win matches, but i’ll hardly get perfects. pretty much gotta do a lot of bobbing and waving until you score that knockdown or do enough damage to get the lifelead and chill.

idk wtf to do against Dictator. Chun Li, too.

It would need to be -3.

Hey i need help againt gief. I have a hard time against the pc gief. What do I do against him im having a hard time to zone him cause everytime i go for a jab he can grab me

But gen can punish everything Dudley does ON HIT with focus attack, because his focus attack has -15 total frames http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/apr/17/gens-frame-data-street-fighter-4/
