SSF4 Dudley Match-up Thread

help with zangief?? i find this matchup tough because dudley needs to play in close in order to be effective yet gief needs to be zoned out.

i tried spacing and staying around HP and F+HP range and poking with those two, but im afraid to duck or do anything that gets me too close to gief and end up getting stomped. any advice on this matchup?

Exactly the same problem here, tips are muchos appreciated!

Need to start putting up some specific stuff against Rose aside from the standard F + Fierce, c. forward, c. strong. Her frame/throw trap footsie game is too good.

Guys, i’m really having trouble fighting against Rose Chars… her footsie keep me far, i can’t jump on her (c. fierce keeps me out) and she is really fast with her df. mk, c. mp, spirtal thing. She’s really annoying, i really don’t know what to do, and i reeeeeaaaaally need help to beat her… anyone?

Some really bad match-up problems.

I ran into so many T-Hawk’s, Zangief, scrub Guile’s, DP spamming Ken’s, Rose, turtling Ryu’s, and I get so impatient and rush these guys down even though I’m supposed to space myself out against characters like Zangief, and T-Hawk. It’s so difficult because Dudley’s mix-up game is incredibly good. But there’s just time where lag disables me from comboing my moves and I just get Fierced Dragon Punch and it’s really annoying. Within one week of the game I managed to have 5018 BP’s, after that I’ve been on a long drought of losing streaks and I’m 3982 BP. It’s so frustrating because a lot of people who aren’t good, are actually beating me because of bull shit like spamming, or button mashing through lag, or super grabbing me like those stupid Abel’s and all the do is roll and grab, with no sense of how to play the game and it’s hard to tech grab them because of lag, and I know lag isn’t to be blamed at but some of my hits / grabs are late-inputted. Dudley’s great, he’s such a nasty beast in his mix game and it’s so legit because he takes about 2 / 3’s of enemy life rushing down within like 20 seconds, but Dudley just has a lot of disadvantages because of his poor wake up moves. I’m new to the forums, but not new to the game. I’m familiar with the game and I know what I’m doing, or at least I thought I knew. =/

Honestly, I think one of my biggest flaws is that my game really suffers when I think things like “I lost to a worse player because of spamming, lag, etc.”

Being able to let go of losses like that is something I’m gonna be working on. Whenever I feel entitled to a win, I’m messing myself up.

The Balrog advice hasn’t helped me at all. Does anyone have more on that?

Well, still updating, if anyone feels like writing up guides for any matchups let me know by either posting it here or PMing me so I can add them to the first post.

i saw a video where dudley was throwing out hk to counter sims long range pokes. will it work for seth too?

yup. remember to buffer an ex mgb into it for extra damage.

Will that work on his jumping HP too? Between those two punches and the sonic booms I just can’t get in on Seth at all. What I’ve been doing lately is building meter from fullscreen, then throwing out a random EX MGB to close the gap and try to do as much damage as possible. But then he walljumps or teleports and I’m back to square one…

ST HK and ST HP can smack both those punches, the timing is tight, but it works, and it hits Seth HARD, the st hk can also be canceled to your ex mgb for massive Seth rape, if he whiffs the grounded fwd punch you can chase it with an ex mgb from just outside its range.

note that if you’re counter j.fp, s.rh xx ex mbg won’t combo (obviously). I would probably do s.rh buffer ducking to close the gap on seth if you’re trying to counter poke his j.fp.

I main Balrog and I know that Ultra II (Dirty Bull) can beat a EX MGB. I don’t know about the other versions though. Also, I’m using Dudley now and are there any more tips on Zangief. Hakan will will be great as well.

whoever needs help with Zangief, zone out with st. hp. It owns Zangief. Not sure about T. Hawk.

need some testing with the Rog/Dudley Match up…

I knocked down the rog in the corner, wanted to chip/counter him for the win with delayed u2 (since he can’t bd out of it). So i had the correct read and he does ex headbutt, I ultra after it (you see rog flashing, and on his way up), and then my ultra whiffs and he headbutts me into ultra to win…what happened?

u2 has very, very little invincibility. rog ex headbutt is invincible all the way up.

After playing dudley for all this time since release, those are my opinions of some dudley matchups. Most of them played against very good players that know their stuff and to play their character at the top of european level, not particular order in their category:

Very Hard (7-3) : Chun-Li
Hard (6-4) : Boxer, Rose, Rufus, Zangief, Honda, Abel, Guile, Ibuki, Akuma
Slight disadvantage (5.5-4.5) : Ryu, Ken, Fei Long, Dhalsim, Sagat, Cody, Cammy
Even (5-5) : Adon, Dictator, Viper, Deejay, Elfuerte, Gouken, Guy, Juri, Makoto, Seth, Claw
Favorable (4-6): Hakan

Those are the characters I feel I know the matchup pretty well right now, the ones that are out there it´s because I didnt had a chance of playing against a top player that used them.

Im still doubtful at the sagat matchup, but even if its a 6-4 it feels very winnable for me even if sagat has very very nice pokes (his walkspeed is what makes his footsies not great, but he has very good pokes) and zoning tools.

Im a bit busy those days, but ill try to break down every matchup and read at least some basics for them.

Ill try to upload some videos also playing against good shoto players as I feel most dudley players have most the troubles against them.

I can say pretty much without a doubt that the Blanka matchup is in Dud’s favor.

Any tips on Vega?
