Against a goddly dhalsim its a very steep uphill battle!!
add honda to that list, went into training mode yesterday and recorded honda doing fierce headbutts back to back and my dudley still lost to it. Only options I can see are to either block or st.HP or f.HP (with the right timing being needed for the last two)
oh yea i dunno if anyone tested this but a weird situation happens when you cross counter balrogs armor moves. balrog will armor the cross counter and will only get white damage, on top of that he recovers before dudley does. now if you do a non meter cross counter, his jabs and throws and wiff you will remain invisible, however if you do an EX cross counter, he can punish you. strange stuff.
^ this also happens with abel’s EX CoD.
I’m not exactly great at street fighter at this point but i played the 3rd ranked xbox live el fuerte and it was the worst experience of my life LOL
The problem I m starting to feel is there are a bunch of bad match ups for duds. Here are a few I encountered first hand :
-El Furte (all over the place…)
-Honda (can punish head butt with jumping people’s elbow or ultra 1 but otherwise its a hard one).
-Bison (scissor kick owns dudley, yeah you can cross counter but kicks come in too fast and most good dictator will short kick before doing scissor).
-Dhalsim (very hard to get in against a good player).
-Boxer (his normals just own you, hard uphill battle…same skill player you loose).
-Thawk ( a turtle thawk is a pain to get in and his command throws destroy you)
-Guile (its doable but getting in can be a pain if guile starts using uppercut against your jump ins)
-Gief (a good gief can really be a pain its very doable but ended on the loosing end too often in this matchup)
Would help a lot if most of dudley’s special were not beat by simple normals… sucks short swing blow and mgb are beaten sooo easily! Would be nice if bison scissor kick were beaten by simple jabs… lol!
Against Gief, use fierce. It’s you poke, and your anti air.Seriously.It’s a GREAT anti air against gief.It trades with his jumping firece,in your favor. It keeps him at bay.It usually beats his st.mp, or trades, again, hugely in your favor.Use it alot.Don’t even try to get in against him.Let him try to get in, and let him fail.
I play this match very defensively. It’s the other grappler that gets me, Thawk, and exactly the kind of Thawk you mentioned, turtle one.
He has way more bad matches then that.
I wouldn’t say WAY more.I mean, there’s like Chun, maybe Rose?Who else would you classify as a bad matchup, EmblemLord?
Oh and i seriously think Guy is a bad matchup.
chun, sim, bison, balrog, vega, ken, ibuki, honda, guile, akuma, gief.
i’ve not played rose to know that matchup.
with that in mind, these are generally 4-6 or 4.5-5.5 so its not that drastically bad. he can beat these people.
Anyone that isn’t 5/5 or better is a bad match-up i.e expect to lose more then you win when you face these chars.
With that in mind over half the cast “beats” him.
Yeah i feel i have to work a little bit more against a lot of characters, but to the point where it’s just pure annoyence for me, it’s only Bison, Balrog, Rose, Sim, Thawk(turtle ones). Those matchups get me really frustrated in the way that i ask my self “How the hell am i supposed to win this?” .Bison is so tough man.Cant push a button after scissor kick, and even if i do, he’s way to far for anything to hit( f.hp is way too slow for that).
I find myself using st.mp against bison quite a bit, because it beats his HK and it can also beat st.mk, but can’t be beaten by it (hitbox thing i guess).By other than that, i’m clueless.I mean, they wouln’t jump in except if meaty, after a scissor kick or phyco crusher knockdown, so i can’t AA with st.mk at all.Tey’ll do full screen backwards Devil reverse, and i’ll try to punsih it with ex mgb, but wait!, his devil reverse is active like until ground, and beat EX MGB clean every time, gives him a knockdown, meaty crossup, own.OH and i really don’t get it how Bison can land a NON crossup, but land on your other side.Is this character specific or something? (sorry don’t know bison at all)
A lot of Dudleys matchups feel bad now, but the more I play them, the more confident I become. I discover new things all the time that help out big time. For example:
Vs Dhalsim: His Standing Fierce (where he crouches and hits you with both arms) gave me a hard time, but I’ve found that cr.LK can trade and even beat it on reaction. You can even do cr.LK xx HK Duck to beat out the Fierce and close up the ground big time. You can also stand just outside of it’s range and then as the move recovers hit Dhalsim with Stand HK xx EX MGB.
Vs Bison: Head Stomp gave me a hard time, and it beat a lot of air-to-airs and anti airs I tried against it. I’ve since found that neutral jump LK beats it cleanly.
Vs Rose: Her slides were a big issue to me. But at the right distance, you can counter poke with Standing HK buffered to EX MGB.
Vs. Shotos: Cr.MK is tough to deal with, but cr.MP buffered to LP MGB is a great answer. When you counter poke succesfully, you force your way in to the distance you want. If the cr.MP whiffs, the MGB doesn’t come out.
I feel that there will be many more things like this to help Dudley out. It’s up to us guys to figure that stuff out and spread the (information) wealth!
Yeah, Dudley is a character that will need to work for wins against most of the cast but the only matchups that i find ridiculous are chunli and boxer. Dictator is hard, but i think its doable.
Againt shotos c.mk, give a shot to your own c.mk, its very useful against whiffed low forwards and ive found it the most reliable poke in that situation. Sweep its good if they are too happy doing it, it will trade in your favor but be careful because its punished hard.
F.Mp beats shotos c.forward almost always clean in maximun range…
i use this and c.forward a litle bit further.
and yes half of the cast beats Dudley but we need only two right moves on wakeup to win the round.
Cr.lk is also good against shoto sweep and cr.mk. I think it’s one of his most non-exploited normal. It has a really good hitbox (although it doesn’t have much range), hit low, and you can hit confirm from it cr.lp xx lp mgb if you are too far for st.hk to hit.
I tested it out and i press mk after the ultra flash, there’s no timing involved with hitting mk. Just mash on it when you see the ultra freeze. the only timing is that f.rh HAS to be meaty. The first example I did it way late, and it ate the hit then grabbed me despite my mashing.
The second example you see dudley’s arm fully extended (meaty), and i just causally tap mk after the ultra feeze for the counter hit. Not sure what you can follow up with that counter hit target, I don’t have the frame data handy with me.
here’s the vid (ghetto rigged iphone lol so please excuse the quality):
I gave the c.lk, s.mk target a try and could not get it to stuff the ultra.
Awesome stuff noodleman, this helps a LOT.
oh one more thing i found out. if you have super meter, you can mash out the super instead. (wihtout the mk). There’s no timing involved in this case for the f.rh as long as it gets absorbed after the ultra flash, the super will come out,
Dhalsim is a tough matchup for Dudley, his cr.LP and his HP can dominate you from downtown.
Here are some strats I am working on:
Anti cr.LP
