SSF4 Dudley Match-up Thread

I know man ;)! Against bison its even more ridiculous, scissor kick and stump kick get own by cross counter ;)!

Wait, against his scissor…thats right…his PC is the armor breaking move…omg, lol. Im going on a quest now, CC everything, what does Bison even do about that!!!

re: CC against the stomp;

You won’t hit Bison, but you do recover fast enough to punish him on the way down with an ex MGB, or an ex DP if he flies towards you on the bounce back.

The stomp is meh, the purple hand follow up though…oh boy oh boy.

Sorry, meant to say that you can punish his purple follow up after you CC the stomp.

Im more thinking block the stomp, CC the purple, your tactic is certainly worth looking at too.

Now I just need to get in more time with Bison. (I havent run into too many as of late, still getting a feel for that matchup)

Actually even the stomp, its really random, give it a few tries in the training room and for some reason you will catch him just at the heel sometimes… weird how it doesn’t always work!

If I have someone knocked down, I’ve been messing around with doing Cross Counter on their wakeup. It works sometimes, and really pushes them into the corner.

Especially on characters like Balrog who love jabbing on wakeup.

It’s good for a surprise maybe if they’re low and you have a life lead for a surprise win (and stylish) but overall I think it’s an iffy move. Most folks will wakeup with nothing but blocking (especially if you’ve been pressuring their wakeup all game) and once they see that cross counter, will just walk up and throw. I see it being about as effective as a random Ultra on their wakeup hoping to connect. (Minus the obvious screen darkening warning)

I will say my favorite Dudley losses are when you use cross counter with not enough health left though…

Its great for a shock tactic once in a match, but they will start using sweep if you do it to often! But yeah great to keep them guessing!

After watching Golden_Gunman’s awesome vids I’m just a tad confused about something. Are these option selects on wakeup assuming the player isn’t trying a wakeup reversal?

Haha, yeah. I just had that happen to me the other night. I was at a pixel’s worth of health against a friend’s Guile and thought what the hell and ended up suiciding with a CC.

It depends on the reversal. On characters with really slow reversals (like Chun Li) you can jump in OS EX Jet Upper to beat both their reversal and a backdash. However, against characters with faster reversals yes you are betting that they aren’t going to do a wakeup reversal.

I see. So first you need to train them into not doing reversals as much by baiting and punishing, then you can start applying many these. (assuming it’s someone with a great reversal) Thanks for the response.

When do you guys tend to switch up which meaty attack you’re using on a knockdown?

[LIST=1]
[]A different one every time, though not always in the same pattern.
[
]The same one multiple times to condition them first, then switch it up.
[*]Whatever happens to strike you at the moment.

Right now I’m in category #3 and I think I need to be in #2 with just a smidge of #1.

Sorry. English is mot my nstive language. But i have a question about dudley. How do you deal with ryu c.mk? It can dodge almost all my attacks.

So…no thoughts on fighting Dee Jay’s creepy ass?

Haha, mine too.

I’m beginning to think it’s why they didn’t make Cross Counter freeze the person for guaranteed damage.

claw is probably my least knowledgeable matchup
if anyone has any tips please do share!
not sure how to deal with his air throw or the cross up claw attack in the air

The Option Selects differ in there usage. Actually for all of the ones that I filmed, my main concern was opponent’s back-dashing. This is because if the opponent back dashes on wake-up, then they avoid your meaty attempt and thus avoid playing the high/low game altogether, which cripples your offence.

However, many of them have other purposes too. Jump-in HK OS EX Jet Uppercut will beat / escape moevs like Rufus EX Messiah Kick, Balrog Headbutt, Blanka up-ball and so-on (not Ryu HP Dragon though!). So it’s good to go into training mode and see how each of these moves can be applied for yourself.

Oh and this post reminds me, I’ll have to go into training to work out an OS from Dart Shot, because I hate it when people dash away to avoid that move on wake-up.

Okay so I’ve been messing around with backthrow -> lk ducking -> j.hk. This setup is really nice. Most reversals will go underneath you, they can’t crouch to dodge the attack, and backdashing gets them hit no matter what character they are. The biggest problem with it is that the opponent can always just dash forwards underneath you or usually can standing jab with good timing. Some characters can trade with the j.hk with a normal anti-air but the trade will be vastly in your favor. Anyways here’s a list of all the stuff that makes this setup unsafe. Otherwise it’s almost perfectly safe. I tested everything I could think of, not everything is listed for brevity’s sake

ducking straight all day.
space it properly tho cause he can punish w/ c.mk if too close
u can’t ducking his s.hk even though it hits pretty high. stupid.
dont jump in on him when he’s crouching(duh)
he can use c.mp to stuff ducking all day, but then if he does that your s.hp beats that move free. hell s.hp beats alot of his moves free
punish rolling sobats w/ s.hp. hk and EX versions are rolling thunder punishable.
slide is s.hk punishable up close, Rolling Thunder punishable if too far
if u get knockded down just be patient and react. EX wont beat most his jump ins and cross counter will only work if he delays the crossup.
once u get in stay on his ass all day long. upkicks will whiff you as long as your using lows properly when u think he’s gonna use em
EX hyper fist and rolling sobat can hit you out but the damage isnt huge and you can still stuff them if you meaty properly, so i think its worth the risk.
