swing back?
How? His belly is all over me
focus it…but you put yourself at risk of being grabbed, it’s a true mixup. i think fuerte beats dudley. he can’t really handle fuerte’s mobility and doesn’t have great options vs his pressure either. but if you get clean hits on him, you really hurt him, but ex runback is REALLY annoying as dudley, it’s really hard to make fuerte just sit still long enough for him to even think of blocking high or low when he can just ex run back…you have to throw him a lot.
^ Would EX MGB work against that EX Run away if you know it’s coming? Or can he block at any point to make doing EX MGB a bad idea on it? I have no experience against El Fuerte with Duds yet.
Had the luxury of being able to play against a lot of Chun and Rog this weekend. We had an 18 hour + sesison lol… and two of the players there played them exclusively. After this weekend, I totally feel the Chun match-up is in her favor but completely manageable. If she ever throws a fireball, that’s a way to gain ground or even score a hit. You can jump in on Chun more than most of the cast thanks to the ‘business elbow’. Her normals are easier to FA absorb > dash in with than Rog’s. And she has no life, so one full combo from Duds and she’s feeling it.
Rog is like the scariest see-saw you will ever be on in your life lol. From afar or within footsie range, you lose. A good Rog will not ever jump or even bother using specials at this range. Specials just give Dudley the chance to get a knockdown or punish. The flipside of this see-saw though, is that once you’re on top of Rog, it’s like vacation for Dudley. The ONLY thing you have to respect is EX Headbutt. And man if you block that as Dudley? Well, you know. But yeah MrQuots mentioned getting the pre-emp standing fierce at the start of this match. That certainly helps but it’s no easy task. Our matches ended up beginning with like 10-20 seconds of us trying to fish for first hit after awhile once we both realized how huge momentum was in that fight.
What other matchups are people finding to be rough for Duds? Guile seems sketchy but very manageable, I’m surprised. I’m really curious about Sim. I’ve only played random Dhalsims on ranked. Some sort of knew what they were doing but nothing to judge the matchup on. Dictator is kind of raw but not as bad as I first thought, kind of like Chun in a way but perhaps easier? Honda, I dunno. Once you have Ultra the match atmosphere kind of changes but he’s still tough to get in on. Ochio kind of punishes stuff that others can’t, too. Seems scary to me atm. Not really sweating any other characters atm. Yet, anyway.
still missing anyeurismx. i havent seen that guy on srk in a minute.
terrible idea…like fundamentally, but it still doesnt work, fuerte can ex run back into tortilla you for free regardless. you HAVE to throw him or do meaty dash straight, if you do meaty dash straight he gets free reversal ultra 2… ON BLOCK. it’s really fucking gay.
^Yeah, was thinking it would be bad, just trying to think of distance + multi-hits.
What about Victoly? Did he come back to play with Super dropping or nah? He was the only US Dudley that I was star struck over back then haha.
dudley vs fuerte ultra 2 is a fucking pain in the ass, you’re gonna do alot of jumping back.
damn i forgot bout him, but i dont even think he played 3s much past its final years
Before I move on to another new character for a while (probably Guy or, sigh, Dee Jay), I was wondering what do we do against a Dee Jay that actually seems to know what the hell he’s doing? It seems kind of difficult to get close to him because of how quickly Air Slasher recovers and knockdown moves having stupidly quick recover compared to Guile, who pretty much has to throw you to knock you down reliably.
Characters I have the most issues with are Dhalsim and Honda, any additional info beyond the OP on these matchups would be appreciated.
For sim I have problems with approach, his yoga fire -> st. fierce makes a ground approach practically impossible, I try to focus badly timed st. fierces to just advance. If sim expects a focus attack he tends to poke with s.mp and s.mk. Cross counter is beat by st. fierce. Ducking a yoga fire means you eat a st. fierce. All jump ins are stuffed by anti air knee.
For Honda his headbutt beats all pressure options for free on his wakeup. I use ultra 1 to make him think about tossing unsafe headbutts, but you typically get 1 a round and sometimes that isn’t enough. Honda can play pretty safe and you have to play reckless to try to take him out of his game. I almost feel like you have to safe jump bait headbutts to win “if” you can manage to get him knocked down. That doesn’t exactly lead to any damage if you don’t have a u1 stocked =. I’ve thought about trying to play this like the Balrog vs. Honda matchup and sit on a life lead, dunno about that idea either.
Word of caution: be careful when approaching Makoto after a knockdown, or else you might take a EX Karakusa on her wakeup. I learned that the hard way when I tried to do an overhead.
I think Honda is gonna be Dudleys worst matchup. He doesn’t need to throw out any pokes other than jab into hands and you can’t jump in on him because of his good j. fierce and headbutt. You’re gonna have to wait on one to come to you and punish his mistakes to take the lead. A very boring match.
You should be able to back dash most of Fuerte’s stuff besides the slide and the kick. If he does meaty slides you can react to them if you’re good enough with ultra or ex jet upper, otherwise I just back dash.
Vs. Juri, you can punish her Super with the tail end of Ultra 2. I’ve done it twice now. At first, it may look like it won’t connect, but it does, and it looks funny when it happens.
Does Dudley have a counter for Cody’s Zonk Knuckle?
Block and punish it. Better than any option to beat it out with.
Try Option Select Kidney Blow to HP MGB / Rolling Thunder / Corkscrew Cross. If he starts running, the Option Selected move should connect:

If the EX Run absorbs your hit, then the OS might not work. In that case I would suggest meaty cr.MP xx LP MGB. That way even if he blocks, you are safe.
Is that the bingo move? I’ve had no problems punishing the normal and ex ones with a s.hp, the timing is a little tight but you can get it in there before Cody recovers
i’m pretty sure you can throw the regular bingo punch, but not the ex version. s.hp also works for block criminal uppers. I’m not what strength they used, but it had just enough reach after their block string to hit them.
Gief
Seems I’m getting into trouble against gief. Found out after some tinkering you can crouch fierce punch his lariat with ease and back standing fierce punch his lariat at the right distance. Also green hand can be cross countered, and you can use medium punch to anti-air him, but any tricks to this match up. Keep getting eaten alive against good giefs!
Main problems :
On knockdown his grabs or lariat can be a problem for my usual mixup, when on my wakeup his splash, strong kick, grab mixup owns me, any tips?
Cross Counter works on green hand…I love that move lol.
