SSF4 Cody Arcade Changes

Cody changes are getting announced next week. If Cody gets half as buffed as Ken got I would wet myself.

I say better backdash and crack kick OTG!!!

ex knife would be fun. and if CU could be FADC’d past the initial hit would be cool too.

The new Super Street Fighter 4 developer’s blog details the changes in Arcade Edition for Chun Li, El Fuerte, Sakura, and Cody. The translation work was done by Azrael

Cody

  • Crouch short (light kick) now comes out in 3 frames. Frame advantage on hit is still the same. Should be more useable as a low poke with reach.
  • Ruffian Kick gets more juggleability after hit. Until now, on a grounded opponent, the first hits of EX Criminal Upper didn’t connect, but now they will. The range at which Cody can pick up the knife has increased.

Looks fair, but no mention of any changes to bingo punch or HK ruffian hitting low

omg that 3frame c.lk is insane! this turns table in many matchups, in particular bison comes to my mind.
I REALLY love that one. well the dev blog doesnt involve all changes, or the list would be too long. also, as long as I dont see a nerf I’m happy about it.

  • Crack Kick (F+HK) gets more juggle (not Ruffian) means, IF hk ruffian really hits low those 2 bars will become very crispy to spend as a BNB. hk ruffian FADC, crack kick, FULL ex cu is insane aswell. cody will become an even more dangerous damage beast!

& along w/the 3f c.short, that knifegrab thing is a blessing :smokin:

How does the 3 frame light kick help so much? Is that one frame the difference-maker for some essential punish (scissor knee?)?

Even with my awful execution, I can pull off the h.RK FADC crack-kick xx EX CU, so anything that can help out damage of that (and god willing the h.RK hitting low) will be welcome.

3 frame c.lk means it’ll trade with bison’s own 3f c.lk which means SK loops in the corner are far less threatening.

so basically his defense is still awful. no walk speed change=no tier change

lk scissor is +0 on block. if you c.lp or c.lk his 3-frame c.lk will comes out first, counter hittin you and leading into another lk scissor. currently you are helpless against c.lk xx lk scissor spam. with a 3frame startup yourself, you can “trade” the c.lk and stop the pressure.

also c.lp, c.lp, c.lk turns into a 1 frame frame trap. ah god damn. that 3 frame lk is all I could have asked for. it becomes even easier to link it in various situations

jp refers to juggle points. each move & each hit of the move has its own jp rating.
jp2 on hit means: when you hit someone w/a grounded or anti air crack kick, it puts them @ jugglepoint2 & only attacks that are jp2 or higher can continue to juggle.

since most of codys specials are jp1, that leaves: excu 2ndhit&up & the 2nd hits of exzonk & exbadstone

so if they made crack kick jp1 on hit you could follow it w/different specials… taking into consideration timing, spacing, hitboxes, etc

like i was saying: antiair crack kick > crack kick… > excu
or: crack kick > roundhouse ruffian > ???

& lets not forget c.jabknife is 3f toooooo & now w/better grabbing!

Hes still a sitting duck. A boost in walk speed would help his tickthrow game. The other changes I probably wont even notice.

Could they at least let Crack kick count as OTG, like oh I dunno every other hopkick in SF history? Hell it was OTG in A3 wasn’t it?

edit: you know what after looking at the Chun-Li and Fuetre changes I’m happy with this, lord knows they could have nerfed Cody for some odd reason.

Like someone has said, While Bison is a light ferrari Cody is a built Muscle car. I like the cr. lk 3 fr startup.

interested to test what can combo now off of crack kick with higher juggle. and make it OTG plz. not too late. its not a huge order. its simple science, he hop kicks but is still standing??? C’mon Capcom.

I know that their might be more changes than that the which the blog stated, but i have to ask this, does anyone know if HK Rk hits crouching targets?

Why would the lk 3 fr startup would affect bison matchup that much?

because a 3 frame low short means he can trade with bisons low short instead of getting counter hit. this has already been said. read.

3 frame low short makes a low short to ruffian or CU buffer so powerful as a poke. the range on it is already so good and now it’s crazy fast. not to mention that’s just that many more things you can punish.

i think they still upgraded his walk speed they just didnt list it.

i dont think so because they listed juris walk speed being improved but not codies

dude, hands down. this arguement doesnt show anything. they have annoucned normal tweak for cody but not for fei long… see what I mean? It’s just a TEASER BLOG not a full blown “change list”.

Well consider me teased. Im just glad they didn’t bust up cody like they did to poor fuerte.

If they wanted us to use more Knife wouldn’t they add something more useful than a bigger pickup range?
like not losing your knife teching a throw or focusing?

TBH I dont like this change. Every now and then I pick up the knife while I want to ultra… T_T costed me some games. even if you only are a milli second ond db + ppp you pick up teh knife, even tho ultra would come out normaly >_<

a “knife buff” would be if the “special normals” would still be doable, hence f.mp, b.mp and f.hp
