Thanks Rugi, I actually heard about this on a commentary of a match between Valle and JWong’s Rufus some time ago. So you plink the cr.strong/fierce with jab+short right?
Its not really plinking but pressing all three buttons at the same time. It works both ways though.

Some Abel matchup commentary.
anyone knows how to deal with adon yet?
his rising jaguar fadc rising jaguar beats my srk…
everytime i block jaguar tooth/jaguar kick i get into this 50/50 grab/rising jaguar/ or reset jaguar kick
so hard…worse his wake up makes in really impossible to get him much…
I try to lame it out, being mindful of his pokes. If he is spamming jaguar kicks, I try to just block till he is close enough, and then try to srk the HK jaguar kick (the one where he jumps high into the air before doing the kick) , from a crouch block position using the shortcut.
I mainly try to late tech after a blocked jaguar tooth, or backdash and see how he reacts. There is always the tele option too. Also a well placed air fb will hit him out of the air, but you cant do this on reaction. I have had success avoiding it with jump back when I see him hit the wall. If your reflexes are on a hair trigger you can demon jaguar tooth, do it when you see him hit the wall.
As far as his wakeup, I still have trouble since he gets up so fast, I mainly just go for a meaty air fb or empty jump crouch tech option to start combos in case he wakes up mashing throw or jab.
That’s all I’ve been able to figure out so far I still need help with match up too. I seem to get counter hit alot when in close.
Ok, just a general question. Let’s say I’m fighting Zangief, for example:
I zone with fireballs, he easily jumps over. Now, how do I punish a jump that is not within SRK range but just outside it? In the older SF’s you could perform a sweep as part of the basic fireball trap. It does not work here unless I’m doing something wrong? What are some punish options? I’ve flirted with trying cr. hk but it seems its either blocked or I’m just punished hard. Thanks.
EDIT: About the Adon match: you can land both hits of st. HK on him. Great tool for pressure and block strings. I feel like this is a match where you have to be patient and just wait for good punish opportunities.
Would any of you guys like for me to add you? I’m not really looking for mirrors, more just looking for skilled players so I can join their endless rooms and face good comp. I’m a talkative person too so its never dull.
^ f.RH and f.HP both have pretty good AA range but they may lose out to whatever jumping attack Gief is doing.
Im basically in love with st.HP. Its a great poke and AA
Vs Adon: you can super all his jaguarkicks on hit or block (Except EX which knocksdown =P), I tend to play keepaway until: 1-. I get a knockdown or 2-. he gets ultra 1.
If he’s using U2, just zone him.
guys…
i know f.rh adon have to block twice. he gets hit by tatsu>sweep.
block super punish for sure(i hardly have super meter against adon, once i got a chance to combo i spent it all).
but all these doesn’t really matter isn’t it? it does help minutely but…I mean honestly it is not the critical reason to deal with adon.
adon is the only one character that can almost guaranteed to avoid akuma all mixup all together
and his zoning is top tier no joke.
the point that adon can get in and abuse that stupid 50/50 is retarded.
by far the best comment i’ve received is to lame it out…but so far it works the best
and empty jump crouch tech perhaps(haven’t actually tried it)
so far i’ve lost to all adon with 2500+ pp to 4kpp players they know how to copy gamerbee really well or most likely i am not adapting well. and if i screw up any setup or whiff anything his kara grab is just messing me up.
his ultra can catch teleport real bad. and the other ultra can set up really nasty late dp(to beat my crouch tech) into ultra.
imagine blocking sagat in vanilla tigeruppercut fadc delay tigeruppercut fadc ultra. so annoying…
How do you deal with zangief who is very good with option select? The one with the green hand… He jumps over my fireball (I don’t use fireball a lot though) and the only way I get close to him is with my round-house which is embarassing because I feel that I am just spamping it. I don’t know of other ways to get close to him safely though in the ground.
In his wake-up, I am having a hard-time putting the pressure on because I always traded by his lariat which ofcourse combos into ex-green hand. Sometimes the player would backdash and I eat SPD.
I think I can adjust the wake-up game, but the ground game, I don’t know. He always does the poke and if I get hit, automatically connects to the green-hand.
Any advise please??
thanks
this is a very formal request coming from me…but I am sure most of the people here think the same:
could we really get this thread fixed? i mean, look at the other chars matchup threads…they have tons of info on how to deal with each character, what to do and not to do, and not just a list of things, new people come and say “ok I can punish this with super/ultra…ok so…what do I do when I dont have those???” and even if you can ask it in the matchup thread it is way better if its on the first post, so people can take a look there before asking stuff.
this way we can continue improving our Akumas.
thank you
i like answering questions, it’s all good this way. do you have a specific question about a matchup? if your question is not answered in the first post, you can ask here. if not, then the only reason you made that post is because you want to help other players. well, why can’t you help them by answering their questions? does it bother you that a thread in the akuma forums, one that you seem to not need because you instead post complaints, only has some information when it is asked? why can’t people ask dumb questions about supers and ultras? does it get in the way of your improvement? what’s the difference with their question being answered in the first post or by a poster here? how is it better if it’s in the first post, relative to being answered? when players ask here, they often ask about a specific situation or move, either how to utilize it or get around it. do you expect the first post to have every single shred of knowledge about akuma?
to say it succinctly, why do you care?
you are right, I want to help other players, but I am also very far from being an expert akuma player, and I think it is good to have all the basic info in the first post, it is not being lazy, is just have a bit of order.
and no, I dont expect the first post to have everything about akuma, but at least for each character a small review about what to do and not to do. I think is good for specifically new players to come to a place where they can find what to do VS “insert character” and then if they have further doubts post them here. an example of a good matchup thread is the one in the Chun-li forums, they have a nice overview of the matchup, then punishes (we have those) and option selects if im not mistaken. that would be nice to have in this thread.
PD: and I really need help vs Ryu and Honda…specially ryu
i still have problems with some matchups…
first one is blanka. i usually try to zone him, only throwing fbs from full screen if he has ex, i try to play this matchup very defensive - i concentrate on his charge status most of the time, then react to river run or jumpins, and punishing the with sweep or srk. i almost never AA demon his jumpins because of his jump arc. seems like he has much less air time while jumping then most other chars.
when i score a knockdown, tech- or untechable, i attack with meaty air (ex) fbs so i can combo if he is one of the flowchart blankas which always wake up with elec, and used with an untechable i can even block the wakeup ball.
but blanka seems so random to me in general. after watching A TON of matchvideos, i can’t really tell you which blanka is “good” and which are scrubby. they all use a mix of river run, balls, surprise hops into up ball/throw/elec/etc. blankas very rarely play footsies, and online blankas seem to be the most annoying things you can run into when playing online.
playing defensive is the only way i manage to beat blanka. as soon as blanka has life lead and starts to turtle, i have no clue to get the lead back. walking forward, block, walking forward, block, and after i work him into the corner he rainbow rolls back to the center. don’t know how to really get close safely, except baiting the ball and punishing with ultra, lol.
how do you play that matchup? is there any setup which beats his elec or up ball on wakeup?
second one is dictator. i mainly have problems keeping him in the vortex, with or without option selects. i use DF palm most of the time. but from here it’s more or less guessing with a high risk/high reward ratio:
DF palm option select SRK beats wakeup PC and scissor, but will be punished when he decides to teleport or HS/DR.
DF palm os HK tatsu will catch teleport (and sometimes EX PC, sometimes tatsu looses), but looses to scissor (resets the game when he does HS/DR)
in my opinion, you are better off to just safe jump with jHK or palm, so you can block PC and scissors, backdash if he HS/DR and just take the reset when he teleports backwards.
is that it?
perhaps you guys can link me to some good matchvids of those specific matchups or post your experiences, would appreciate that.
How do you fadc through the fireball when ryu does cr.mk > fireball? I’ve seen it been done lots of times but I’m trying it in training mode and i can’t get it.
You have to be at the right range. In other words about max distance.
Hey guys I’ve been in the lab testing out Akuma’s DF Palm OS sweep on Rog’s wake up game. Which wake up options is this supposed to take out or Rog’s game? I know that it’s supposed to break all EX rushes out, sweep his back dash, if he just wakes up blocking then you can go into a block string. However, is it supposed to safe jump headbutts as well? I can get the previous 3 options down, but I can’t seem to get the timing where it also safe jumps the HB.
You have to either react to the backdash manually with the sweep, or you have to do the sweep really late in order to still block the headbutt. I’d suggest just trying to eyeball the backdash on reaction, just in case you can’t consistently OS without getting headbutted.
Is it just me or does anyone else find seth really hard if the player is good :X
