yeah, mid range is kinda dangerous vs him, because of his standing HK. Luckly enough, he cant crouch akuma’s HK so thats a plus. the thing about him, is that as he stands faster than the rest, is hard to use safe jumps so I mostly rely on zoning until I can get close, kinda like akuma vs boxer.
The best Adon I’ve ever fought used a lot of feints and the instant air jaguar tooth to get over heads and bait srks when jumping in.I’ve beaten and or traded c.HP with Jaguar kicks, safer than srking it, but I want to look into the jump back RH strat I saw in here somewhere. Use air fbs to get in and mix it up is what I’ve been doing. And ofcourse demon the ex=kick. His mid range is dangerous enough that it could possibly be even but as long as I keep fighting these random move using Adons I have to call a 6/4
If anyone wants to get some rounds in against him to see what he can do pm me.
I had an interesting experience against Abel the other day I thought I’d share to.
I usually play alot of safe&bait from max c.mk range against Abel so I can kill rolls and exes with demons and grabs and force him to use his average poke . So when I hit him with a c.mk on wake up and he breathless’d, I figured “Well that was dumb, I deserve that punish…” and input demon just for the hell of it. Breathless ate the hit and when my demon came out it caught.
I took that move into training mode before and I couldn’t get demon to win at all but now this.
Has anyone else had luck beating breathless with demon? If so is there a specific timing for it like with Cody’s U1?
I was also looking for a more effective way to play Abel, like this I don’t get mixed up as much, but I’m not as aggressive as Akuma can be either since vortex works well against Abel.
In general if you dont know a matchup with akuma what are the basic things to do against a character you dont know the matchup to with akuma to learn it.
Play it a lot and learn from your mistakes… and get into an endless with someone who mains that character.
hey, uhm, Im having serious problems vs Dhalsim, I just dont know how to handle this match at all, and the info on the 1st page doesnt cut it…it doesnt tell me anything. can someone of you who has dhalsim experience help me with this matchup?
The Dhalsim match up is probably one of my best match ups because I have a good friend from Japan who goes to the same college I do and we play regularly. His main is Dhalsim.
Here is my synopsis on him. YOU MUST BE PATIENT AT ALL COSTS! Dhalsim is a character built around punishing reckless approaches. You must almost be willing to turtle out the whole match till you get that one opening.
First thing to do in this match up is to figure out what the Sim is going to do. Start by throwing out a few fireballs, but do no go crazy. I tend to only throw them on reaction to his yoga fire. You need to build up the meter in order to slow down his zoning game. Also limit your air fireball usage because he is able to HP you to trade which not in your favor.
If he is going to be super aggressive then he is being a total idiot. Use c.HP (or SRK if your reflexes are good enough) to punish any attempts to teleport on top of you. Do not go crazy on the fireballs. Odds are he will try to slide and grab you (common scrub tactic). I find once I have two bars just to SRK after every blocked MK slide of his. If he poorly spaced the slide I will be at an advantage and the SRK will land before he can block and if he is at an advantage and tries to grab I will win out. Now good Sims might pull a fast one so make sure to read your opponent before you do this.
Now here is the nightmare part of this match is how to advance on a good Sim. A good Sim is going to use every last of his normals to keep you out. Once you get one bar odds are a good Sim will stop using Yoga fire because it is highly punishable. If you can EX demon flip grab or palm almost on reaction. You need a little bit of a head start, but it is easier than most characters. If you get a really good jump then you can dive kick, but this is more from prediction than reaction. First tip is not to jump at all unless you see him yoga fire. This is critical because his anti-air is too good from a distance. Second tip is not to overdo the focus attack because half the time you will just be wasting health. Third LP SRK is a good tool to punish predictable normal attacks, but do not over use it. Fourth, don’t advance if you don’t need to. If you can make Sim come to you then all the better. The main thing you are looking for is any sort of knockdown, even if it is techable. This allows you to advance unimpeded. Landing an EX fireball or Shaku can be game changing because it allows you to advance quickly.
Last once you finally get inside of Dhalsim’s zoning is to keep the pressure on him. If you land a combo use the c.HK to finish it. When you perform an attack on wake up use option select Tatsu to chase his teleport. If you lose pressure then don’t be hasty and look for another opening. Go back to full screen if you have to, but just don’t take any hits. Sim is a match up of complete patience and who ever is the most patient usually wins. You want the Sim player to have to come to you rather than you coming to the Sim player.
Here are the few recorded matches I have against Dhalsim players. They aren’t the best, but they are better than nothing.

I can’t think of any recent Dhalsim vs Akuma matches where both players are competent or else I would refer you to those as well. I think Infiltration played against Sabin at Evo if I can find the video.
Lol @ wall of text double post, but good post!
Also tip for cammy you can dash bnb combo any blocked dp of hers with either st fierce or cr mp xx lk tatsu depending on the spacing, she has more recovery than you think.
@2:00. dhalsim df light kick(that annoying slide). how do you judge its punishable or not?
sometimes if you try to c.lp you end up getting grabbed. i guess its just distance problem. but i get a roadblock dealing with that move everytime i get hit by that slide i just tech, though i wish i could have done better maybe with c.lp*3 into ex tatsu
just curious wut u guys think of vs. rose. came back from SJ and played quite a few. i feel like i should slowly creep my way-in and try to score a knockdown, in which case i mix her up until she has ultra. thing is im not really sure how to play around it.
how do u guys normally respond to playing an FB war with rose and playign around u2?
don’t press buttons when she is up close. she has better frame traps than akuma. FB war: when she reflects a fireball, ex DF and get her with throw, possibly dive kick. U2: don’t jump in. don’t even try to safe jump it and EX DP which may sound like a good idea, she is completely safe on activation. OS her backdashes.
Well first things first is to differentiate his different slides. He actually has 3 different slides. A LK, MK, and HK variety. The HK is always punishable on block if you are in range. The LK is super punishable on block always. The one you see most often is the MK slide because this gives Sim the best advantage. If perfectly spaced this move is +2 on block. So you have to judge if you can attack or not.
Its difficult. Teleport out if unsure or if you have the reactions and ample stocks, srk him if they’re grab happy. You can also tech if you’re anticipating the throw, but that can be baited with a backdash and he can then slug you with any of his normals or perform an instant-air U2.
If you want Sim practice, flick me a message on XBL. I play against Vince regularly who is easily Australia’s best Dhalsim player. We’ll pull you into a lobby so you can join us
Yeh I do that but sometimes i just completely mind fucked, and i just play footsies and vortex.
thanks loyalsol…by the way, wont u happen to have tips vs e.honda and boxer as well?
PD: someone really needs to fix the first post…im serious, thats why we dont have many akuma players…
Boxer is one match up that until you know how to play him right the match up will be one of your worst. For the longest time I hated that match up even against scrubs because I wasn’t sure how to play him. The first piece of advice I have for Boxer is learn how to safe palm and how to pressure following a blocked palm. This will instantly make every knock so much more effective. Second is to use the c.HK to finish all of your LK.Tatsu combos.
Third you need to learn which of his dash punches are punishable. The easiest to punish ironically is ALL of his EX Dash punches. You can grab him out of each and every EX rush. Kara throw helps because it gives more room for error. He technically only has one punch that is truly safe on block and that is his LP straight dash. Every other punch has varying degrees of punishable frames. The easiest to punish is a blocked overhead as you can get a full combo on reaction. I like to c.MP > BnB or some other combo to punch a blocked overhead. A blocked dash sweep can also be punished with a SRK or c.LP. The harder one punish is the armor breaking punch, some of the times you can s.LP > c.HK to punish. It takes some practice and generally is hard to do on reaction.
Last the best tip anyone can learn against Rog is to learn your footsies. That is the single best thing you can do against Rog because a good one will use his normals.
yeah, boxer is kind ahard for me, sometimes I dont understand why I lost…and fottsies vs him are hard, since his range is better that akuma´s.
also, vs honda, I dont know what to do when he starts doing NJs from a distance, like, I dont have an answer for that, it makes me angry.
PLEASE FIX THE MATCHUP THREAD, seriously, its SHIT.
i find against boxer is to mix up your demon flips with grab or palm like loyalsol said, and bait headbutt and always punish it
oh and i swear to god im never going to be able to beat blanka
haha i love this thread but people are right about the first post… as handy as it was in the beginning, it really needs to get an update. If i had the knowledge that the “pros” have i definently would make one… atleast one that contains info about what strategy to use on which character, what vortex to apply… especially the vortex part. I mean seriously i would rather read about what vortex to apply than what special is punishable by a demon -______-
So this is a question regarding characters that have instant dive kick pressure like Cammy, Rufus, etc and how to effectively crouch tech against them. I’m pretty good at crouch tech against other characters, but these chars give me some problems.
I often find that when sticking out shorts, I eat a dive kick -> combo. And if I try to be more careful with the tech, I just get tick-thrown. So I usually resort to teleporting out before the pressure gets too great or before I get cornered. However, I try not to get too predictable with it because I know I can get punished by certain normals or OS’d specials. Is there a special way to crouch tech against these characters or do I just need more practice?
option select crouch tech with cr.mp/cr.hp instead. cr.mp has the same amount of frame startup as cr.lk with akuma, but the hit-box is better for poking them out if the throw-tech doesn’t come out. cr.hp I’d use sparingly, because it can be counter-hit pretty easily and leaves you vulnerable if you guess wrong.
