It’s way easier to land u2vs a good player with almost any char that u1 except for a few chars with u1 punishable things ie rog’s headbut. The problem with u1 is if someone is trying to avoid getting spded they are also by default trying to avoid u1. U2 takes away options. Let’s say you land a bnb ending in exgh and you have u1 they can back dash every time now with u2 the same situation they can’t just auto backdash so that opens up lots of options for u even if you choose not to use u2.

Really? The majority of times I see U2 being used is as an all-or-nothing gamble. You have to play riskier with U2 for something that might not even pay off. That’s not the case with U1. It’s fine if people try to avoid U1 with the rest of Gief’s grabs because again, Gief’s gameplan revolves around punishing them for trying to avoid the grabs, and since his offense is primarily ground-based it’s far likelier that you’re going to land a U1 to capitalize on a tick or a mistake they’ve made rather than throwing out a U2 which more often than not can be a deadly mistake if you guess wrong. Landing U2 just boils down to luck more often than not.

Both of Giefs are risky just now one gives the illusion that it’s better due to it’s buffs.

i don’t see the risk in using U2 because U1 is so easy to avoid U2 basically keeps them planted to the ground where zangief is at his best since gief doesn’t have an air throw U2 is his only option for jump happy players if he did have an air throw than i could see maybe giving U1 more credit but he doesn’t

Aside from them knowing you have it and playing a safer game that and some moves invincibility negate it I did it when an Akuma used EX DP to avoid another time I used it and he used EX air hurricane didn’t grab him.

From a “guess” point of view:
u1 is a 33/66
u2 is a 66/33

u2 simply covers more options, but u1 is >>>>> as a punisher, provided the player actually gives you a punish. Take Guy. If the player never run > slides or run > OHs, when exactly can you ever pull out a u1 punish? Lets take Cody. He has no reversals taking him airborne so u2 can only punish jump and backdashes. But if you block a bingo, u1 in his ass.

But even with that said I think u2 is the better all around ultra now. If I’m playing vs Gief and I get hit by EXGH and he choose u1, I’m backdashing 9/10 times. That alone makes me mindphucked if Gief ever chooses u2. smh.

U2 Does Provide you with that fear factor that U1 just can’t give you

U1 isn’t exclusively used as a punish. You can have blockstrings in the corner that will tick into U1. You can whip it out on some smartass trying to grab you or press ground-based offense on wakeup. You can land it as a mixup after a jump, a whiffed normal or even while walking. You can use it in a boat, with a goat, on a plane, while it rains, in a house, with a mouse. U2 can’t do most of those things so it’s really just a better ultra for the psyche-out factor.

U1 is just obsolete in AE not much reason to use it outside mirror matches

Not true, Guy does not need to rely on run gimmicks to fight Gief. He good zoning buttons. He can essentially breakdown the MU to one of footsies where the better footsie player wins.

I just noticed that Yang/Yun’s palms are considered projectiles… so normal green hand stops them just like fireballs.

What’s better is, hit them with normal green hand early and you get counter hit knockdown! Would make a brief video but I’m on the wrong laptop.

Too risky because they can fake it, I mean it’s useful every now and then but not something to rely on.

Agreed. And you can use U2 to punish just as well as U1. Someone misses a SRK or a jumping attack, you can punish with U2. I also like using it as a punish when I guess someone will neutral jump.
I’m really loving the ability to control U2 in the air. Only thing I dislike about it is the damage. It’s not as good as U1.

I am pretty happy with my progress! I realize that the first set of the GF was kind of bad I really wanted to try some stuff out and obviously it didn’t work lol so I went back to the reg playing for the 2nd set

The sagat matchup is very hard in AE, if they spaming Hk like that sagat was doing try to tag him with d+f HK. The akuma/sagat/fei matchups are very very difficult, I still don´t have a solid gameplan against feilong other than punishing mistakes and take risks.

I played a pretty good series against rockhowar (one of the best chuns in EU), i´ll try to upload some vids this week.
