Also, notice how many times Gief can land a j.mk on Honda. Spaced and timed right it makes it very difficult for him to AA, and once you have u2 loaded it becomes a scary situation for him.
You my friend are failing to realize the power of the ultra is not in landing it, its making Honda think TWICE before he just goes on auto-pilot with EXHB’s for AA’s.
Also, butt splash timed late is a decent AA and more Honda’s are using it situationally since jab.HB got nerfed. It will also obviously blow up empty jump spds.
Does it matter if zangief is better or worse in AE? Just play another character if you don´t like him anymore, his playstyle is still unique and he is fun.
He always has been a terrible tournament pick due to loopsided matchups and in this game if u dont play yun/yang/fei you are not going to win tournaments consistently so it doesn´t really matter, you should be thankful zangief is at least viable.
Also lol @ gief footsies not being good, and I don´t know what do u mean by giving him his short back, you can still prevent people from jumping away with shorts.
And yeah, ALL the top zangiefs use u2 against honda but it´s useless.

Vangief lost due to lack of knowledge he didn’t know on reaction ex hand or lariat stops dash punches which he did lose to.

In round 2 if Itabashi had pulled Zangief into the corner instead of towards Honda when he launced U2 it would have caught him. Honda technically wasn’t off the ground when U2 got activated but it could have connected.
Also so what if ex gh has no knockdown anymore? Without it, you force your opponent to guess what your next move is; they backdash you can catch them with with another gh (ex or not, it’ll knockdown either way if you hit them in the dash), they jump back you can buffer U2 from the ex gh and snag them out of the air, or they stay put and you can grab them with a SPD.
I completely agree with Flash and Trini, Zangief is much more deadly AND interesting than before.
He’s a decently bad matchup. Once you learn to deal with his amazing long range pokes he’s a kitten though.
