i mean that with this slight increase in range some players will attempt spd’s out of range now because they just have the mindset that the range is bigger than it really is. also how many times have u lost a match against a good sagat, guile, sim, seth, etc and said to yourself, “man, if i had slightly more range on my jab spd i coulda won that match?”
No it’s not like that because jab SPD in ST had a better range and no one had FADC’able reversals.

There’s one thing I want to check out and that’s the fs.hp. I get more use from c.hp than that worthless poke. I also have doubts about people who did the AE playtest in japan who said that c.lk went back to 3 frames. Easiest way to test that is to c.mp > c.lk link. Worked in vanilla for some decent damage.

Got to play tonight, including a really fun fight against Aquasilk. Gief seems to be a SPD monster now, the range increase isn’t just a hype thing, it really makes a difference IMO. Little things like c.lp x 2, s.lp, s.mp is a no meter combo/SPD setup. S.Hk whiff from a mile away and they are in danger of getting grabbed. Akuma fight is still awful. I do concur with UltraDavid’s assessment, I went several rounds without landing EXGH or scoring a true mixup knockdown; but I was still in the fight for sure. I feel good about Gief at the moment.
Did T.Hawk always reel from a j.hp on hit so c.lp doesn’t combo? Saw a T.Hawk player churn out 2 command grabs from what should have been combos off of j.hp.
Quick question:In AE, I did U2 last night to counter Balrog’s headbutt, and it just whiffed

We even tried it again the next round shocked it didn’t work, and again it completely whiffed 0_o

Meaty st.mp hit confirmed into short-gh or into jab spd seems to be much easier with the added range. Also, a lot of on-hit regular GH situations knock back far enough for many characters not to punish now.
I went back to chinatown on friday that is the best day to find good competition… and i was playing against akuma, i got him back in the corner, i was about half the screen away and was baiting for him to jump to try the new buffed U2… he finally jumped with the hadoken in the air i did lk–>U2 gief went to the corner and grab him on his way down… active frames now must be at least 50. also i think that they added more active frames to s.MK.
Do not underestimate the extended range of jab SPD. You’ll see how scary it is once you actually get your hands on the game. I think it’s a game changer, it’s completely ridiculous, you’ll see.
I’ve seen it in some Guile vs. Gief matches, you’d be crazy to think it won’t make a difference. If you can do a normal setup, doing the setup in AE is just gonna be sweeter (though the nerf he got…not sure how that’s going to play out yet).
I’m confused at this wording. Focus crumple (No dash)-> U2 is possible in Super against about 1/3rd of the cast. They’ve removed this? Or were you testing it in a different way? Or did you only get to test it on characters it didn’t work on in Super anyway?
Why would you want to do that anyways? I’d rather save the revenge meter and punish with a HP SPD with the increased damage it got.

It’s not really about what I’d rather do. Until I get my hands on AE and get to test stuff personally I can’t figure out what the best idea is. This is more about what is possible within the game with the changes, bad or not. I don’t care if it’s good, I just want to know if it’s possible. How good it is will be figured out over time and matches.

not sure if this has been mentioned but zangiefs new LP SPD can grab ppl at the end of their back dashes if they try and spam back dashes all the time, of course the ones with bad back dashes.

You can get it on all tall characters already in console, but if I’m going to try to cheese it like that, I’ll usually just roll with U1.

So, from what that new trailer said, we’d be able to choose which version of our character we wanna use. So, are you sticking with Super Gief or going over to AE Gief?
I can’t really decide yet. Being able to knock people down with EX Hand would usually be too gdlk to pass up, but the AE range on LP SPD is really tempting. Ima definitely try AE Gief out, and I’ll stick with him pending on whether or not the SPD buff overshadows the EX Hand nerf.
