SSF4 AE v2012 - Official Akuma Changes Discussion

I think the nerfs suck for Akuma and I don’t even play him, but this does take out a lot of the derp factor. You can’t set up empty palm into short now that players will always be blocking low after they hear you grunt in the air. But on the flip side, his throw always seemed like an after thought in his mix up. Now Akuma’s will actually have to learn how to really mix people up instead of just overwhelming them with safe options.

It appears that you are the one who didn’t put two and two together. Look at the tier list. Akuma isn’t green across the board for no reason. Then look at the character in the bottom of the tier list, they have been stuck there for years.

All the top tier character are going to receives nerf. Please, don’t try and pretend Akuma isn’t a top tier and isn’t one of the character that gives bottom tiers the most trouble.

They are tough because they are difficult to vortex. The forward throw nerf is huge here because we no longer have the exploding heart to use, and that was primarily anti-shoto. Ryu got a better U2 with which to AA Akuma and Ken got more damage buffs. Cross-up tatsus can be SRK’ed late, neither can be tatsu-swept, and both of them can OS the teleport escape. Ken is now the top shoto.

I’m trying to think of way that having 2 akuma players in top 32 out of a cast of 39 characters isn’t that great. Its good dude.

I feel with the changes so far, the tiers will be condensed a great deal.

Yea I have actually been learning Seth for a week or two/three, but Im planning on learning every mixup/vortex char lol. Oh and yea, Seth is a stun machine, I don’t even care about Stun with Akuma anymore tbh :s in comparison Akuma is crap (stun wise) might be cause I suck with him tho lol

Dammit CC, they buff easy mode BS characters but nerf Akuma. No more Whiff Palm sweep…No dash ex flip…no dash x2 tatsu. It was already hard enough to win with this dude, especially if you’re not playing him 24/7 learning every char. specific setup etc. Arhaghahg/rages. I am also confused @ all the Akuma haters, like there are more than 1 or 2 Akuma players that are doing good lmao. Not to mention if you’re not boss with Akuma you can get wrecked in no time due to his HP.

Jokes aside, you are talking like we necessarily have any other tool the other have. James mentioned health, but you know, Akuma doesn’t have any armor break besides palm. And it requires a jump, which isn’t exactly risk proof (DF air to air are horrendous).

I don’t know what Gouken has to do with this with though. If Capcom failed with a character design, do they really have to compensate by breaking others?

No they don’t want Akumas to be fundamentally sound because they gave him shit health, shit stun resistance, shit stun output. He can’t go head to head with Ryu or Fei or anyone like that in footsies. His zoning game is sub-par too, compared to other top tier projectile characters. He relies on his mix-up game to do real damage, and now Capcom has fucked that up too.

Just because you get raped consistently by any good Akuma on wake-up doesn’t mean it’s not sound play. You have to have an immense amount of match-up specific knowledge and excellent execution to pull off good vortex.

Stop overreacting. These aren’t even final nor are they all of the changes.

So akuma how does it feel to get moves that are worthless now like dudleys thunderbolt/flower/short swing blow now?

HOW DOES IT FEEL? also akuma, you are still going to be insane just not as insane in the next version but still tourney viable, I’d like to say the same for Hakan lol.

The only nerf I disagree with is the whiff grab having 2 more recovery frames, welcome to gouken land.

First of all, I’d like to remind some salty people that changes aren’t finalized. I’m pretty sure Tokido’s slightly raging at minimum and I don’t think that these nerfs are permanent. Now, even assuming that it is…Are you really going to drop a great character / drop this game because he lost some setups? Akuma has a great footsies game (best sweep in the game, cmk, cmp, and other godlike normals with awesome frame advantage on block), a godlike projectiles game (fireballs that startup 1 frame slower and recover 1 frame faster’s than ryu, a red fireball to beat out strong projectile characters like guile and sagat, and GODLIKE air fireballs that no one else has in this game; you’d be stupid if you think that Akuma doesn’t have a great fireballs) and still, a fairly good vortex. I’m being pretty salty considering that Viper barely got SCRATCHED and her BKs are still fucking gay and ambiguous, however, I’m not going to drop Akuma just because of this. If you are going to hate on Akuma just because he drops a few ranks in tiers, you might as well play top tier characters in every game.

At this point, stick with Akuma or just leave. These nerfs will change your gameplay and possibly cause you to lose a bit more, but it will not truly affect how good you are. We’ll still see Tokido perfecting many professionals with Akuma. Let’s all pray that these nerfs aren’t permanent; if they do end up permanent, I hope most of you guys will actually stick with him.*

You are overreacting. He will still be top 10. That’s good for a 39 character cast. Akuma still has good normals and great walkspeed. He has great footsies and he will still beat 2 top 5 characters for sure (Gief and Sagat).

And no I don’t get raped on wake up. I’ll upkick that vortex shit for free.

Ok so next version, which tool Capcom will delete from Akuma’s vortex?Do you realize the nerfs list from vanilla to super, and from super to AE, and now, from AE to AE 2012?

I really think Akuma is actually balanced, since he lost Air tatsu, he was almost perfect except-his stun output-, which was a little bit too much nerfed from Vanilla to Super.

Akuma is still fine, yes, but the more version we have, the more Akuma looses tools.

It is very sad to see capcom fixing corners unblockables by adding 2 frame to his throw -___-, since it is an hitbox probleme…why on the earth Capcom don’t use vanilla version to fix this unblockable, instead of changing Akuma’s gameplay…nobody knows.

The problem is not even complaining per se. Its that capcom changed the way the character is player. I choose my characters from the way they play, not because of their backgrounds on whatnot. If Akuma is really a changed character in 2012, I will probably switch to other characters I played before, especially Abel.

In fact, I had better results with Abel on tournaments and I even returned to Akuma because I really enjoyed playing him.
