Lol Yeah I for one wanna see this…plz link
Never really cared much about his nerfs as long as they didn’t effect his setups, but this throw nerf is huge.
It’s going to take away most of his set plays after throw outside of having the opponent cornered, if this nerf stays for good i would be having seriously thoughts about dropping Akuma.
I love Akuma because of his setups, if that’s dramatically nerfed he’s just a shoto with low life for no good reason.
This throw nerf could possibly be the nail in the coffin for me, might be time to go character shopping!
My thoughts
"If this version of Akuma stays like this, he’s done being a top character. He now reeks of “B class character at best”
Wonder if Tokido, Eita, Infiltration, etc will drop him,
I’m not, but this new version sounds REALLY UNFUN TO PLAY AND NOT WORTH THE EXECUTION AND SPACING EFFORT ANYMORE."
Person: "Akuma is already going to receive a HUGE buff when they announce the twin nerfs, you really expected to keep the same akuma from Super/AE once they nerfed his ONLY bad matchups in a game of 39 characters?"
My response -> “Eh, this doesn’t take into account the buffs other character will get, or the characters who will essentially remain status quo such as C. Viper. I don’t agree with this way of thinking - that Akuma will still be top because twins are also getting nerfed.”
"I think it will come down to how badly the 2 frame lag on forward throw hinders his ability to safe jump, option select, and cross up out of it. It’s gonna take training mode sessions for sure to see what’s up since he has very specific timing and set ups vs different characters so this changes EVERYTHING. I’m not saying he won’t be able to win, I just don’t see him being a top character anymore without his pressure after throw and the palm nerf. His stun is low, his health is low, and he’s already a high execution character. The execution and difficulty aspect just seems like it isn’t worth it anymore.
With that said, I’m still using him if the changes are final, but I do hope they take another look at their decisions with the location tests."
“Keep the palm nerf I guess, but I just hope the throw one is a temporary thing. Keep in mind with Blazblue location tests that they change stuff all throughout, so this could be the case with AE too.”
"People are downplaying the significance of these Akuma nerfs so badly it’s not even funny. Some of you guys really don’t know what you’re talking about, and the sad thing is you think you do. If you’re glad he’s getting nerfed then fine, but don’t act like he’s still going to be a monster with these nerfs because he more than likely won’t be a top 5 or possibly even top 10 character anymore. That palm nerf is real bad but that throw nerf could be even worse.
He’ll still be good if these changes stick but they are very big nerfs.
The only thing that makes me happy is a lot of these changes may not stick. Blazblue had locations tests and the results were several changes being made. They’re having location tests for that purpose I would imagine, so I STRONGLY doubt any of this is permanent."
"I can’t speak for other other Akuma players, but I’m definitely still playing him. It just sucks, that’s all. It’s frustrating that Fei Long’s core gameplay remains the same, Viper barely got touched, Gief got buffed, but Akuma got nerfed hardcore.
Fei Long is factually stronger than Akuma, and it can be argued that Viper is slightly ahead of him(though IMO it goes Yun>Fei>Yang>Akuma>Viper), so the amount of nerfage is baffling to me and I hope they do not stick."
As a chun main thank god
Vanilla Akuma did a shit ton on damage and COULD be played “the momochi’s way”. With his current damage and stun values it’s pointless to play him like that. No wonder Momochi immediately dropped him.
If you wanna play a footsie/zoning shoto just pick Ken or Ryu. Pointless to play Akuma like that, any decent opponent will trash you.
Oh yay…welp I’ll wait for v 2013 and just move on to Guy/Evil Ryu now. Cya.
goood god… maybe it wont affect the vortex that badly? but really. why change this shit
Oh, makes me wonder if these changes are preliminary or final (based on the loctests and feedback)
Also curious to see what Tokido/Eita/Infiltration think.
Wow if these changes stay we might aswell not even call his vortex a vortex anymore smh. The 2 more frames of recovery after throw is just an easy way out for Capcom to try and fix the unblockables typical Capcom.
i’m going out on a limb here, but Akuma’s setups weren’t ever hardcoded or anything. people didn’t really know them until months after sf4 came out. maybe through some testing it would be possible to create some new setups keeping in mind the -2 frames?
tbh i’m surprised they even touch Akuma… he was always just a very solid character that paid for his options with low health/stun AND dmg/stun-output. I mean if they’re gonna nerf his options, why wouldn’t they buff his damage or stun at least? it seems weird that some of the decent characters in the game just got basic damage reductions, but with Akuma they’re going after his playstyle. I never understood why they did it to Zangief either, but he pulled through though so Akuma might to?
if he doesn’t though, have you guys seen the buffs to Dan? if Akuma ends up sucking, I know who I’m maining =P
I wouldn’t be so salty if it was just the palm nerf, Gouken got his DF dive kick nerfed from being overhead and he wasn’t even top tier.
It’s the forward throw nerf that doesn’t make any FUCKING sense, his backthrow is already GARBAGE, doesn’t he deserve a normal throw that’ll give him a chance to go for normal safejump/x-up game like any other shoto in the game :S?
I hope somehow/someway Capcom won’t include this nerf and instead fix the unblockables the correct non-fucking-lazy way, Capcom would reach a new level of unfucking believable stupidity if they went ahead and put this stupid nerf in AE v12.
The setups we have now barely get Akuma in position to stuff 3 and 4 frame reversals, meaning if you add 2 frames it wil most likely make the strict timing even more strict, or the entire concept impossible
Totally agree. Nerfing his mixups just makes him a shitty Ken/Ryu. He is so precariously balanced as is that even small nerfs will affect him in a big way. He’s not like Viper or Abel in terms of mixups. He can’t just run the same stuff on 90% of the cast and still win.
People keep saying “oh he’s top 10”, but he’s only top 10 on paper. We got two players in the world who have done anything significant with the character, Tokido and Infiltration, and they still haven’t done anything as close as the other top characters in tournies. Judging by the Fei “nerfs” the twins won’t be hit all that hard. He already requires near perfect play I don’t see the point of reducing his margin for error even more.
The difference though is that zangief also got some huge buffs akuma got nothing. The ultra 2 buff wow 21 more damage , after scaling in a combo that might be 10 more damage total .
Well Fei got it pretty bad actually. This providing that the pushback nerf on his 2nd hit rekka is significant.
Slight damage nerfs and he lost the ability to frame trap with Rekkas. Not a big deal considering he has some of the best normals in the game to frame trap with.
Pretty good bet that Fei is still the best character.
Which nerf is worse?? Probably the grab I would say.
so our unblockable/ambiguous set-ups after the throw are no longer worthily .
this is obvious its time for Super Street Fighter IV Viper Edition
Fei normals for me are probably one of the if not THE biggest problem. Them pokes are so GDLK!
well dp fadc cw losing 60 damage isn’t a SLIGHT damage nerf.
And having LESS pushback AND MORE recovery on his 2nd rekka hits might be really bad if the pushback nerf is significant. His rekka poking game wouldn’t be half as good as before. He also lost s.lp into sweep but that’s pretty marginal unless he had you cornered where his j.mp gets really ambiguous. Plus charge chars are getting buffed, and they were notorious for giving fei some problems even in super and AE.
Don’t think he’ll be number 1 in ver.2012. But we still have to see what happens to the twins
