Ryu doesn’t suit Tokido imo, for the same reason it didn’t suit Poongko. Tokido and Poongko are too offensive oriented. Tokido himself admitted that his fireball game isn’t on par with zoning pro’s like Daigo or Momochi.
Just out of curiosity, is that -2f nerf on Akuma’s far st.hk actually -2 at point blank? Or does it change if he’s further out?

I think I was wrong about the EX df to EX fire ball. I thought it was a combo but it sounds like now he might be able to cancel the EX DF to an air EX fireball.
This could be a cool mix up game of DF throw,Fireball,plam or slide.

Oh and yea, you know what I thought about when I read about df into ex hadou? That u might use it from his forward throw. Like ex df travels you to the opponent while zanku hadoukens may change youre falling trajectory. Maybe we can make it be an air hadou crossup from a forward throw mid screen? It would be nice and make the buff actually have some thought behind it, but if you need to spend two bars for it (ex df -1 bar, ex zanku out of that - 1 bar) then it’s pointless. Too much invesment into somethin that will probably be escapable by late dp’s and ending the reason why u lost the round. Think like our crossup tatsu from forward throw would cost us two meters. It would be hard to find an excuse to use it.
I didn’t mean Tokido would consider using him :P, just pointing out who I thought would be the best shoto. Seth seems Tokido’s #1 choice if he decided to drop Akuma.
Also, lol @ people discussing the EX air fireball “buff” AFTER an EX DF.
Yeah, I was thinking about that too but instead, after ex df air fb after a forward throw you could probably do a jump kick or crossup tatsu. Also, ex df to air fb would be much easier to use to blow up stand tech and late crouch tech than jump air fb. Jump air fb on wakeup is very space dependent and you have to do it slow so it’s obvious you aren’t doing a safe jump when you are trying to bait a throw.
A good buff would have been being able to cancel any demon flip whether normal or EX into any version of air fireballs, people please stop pretending that wasting 2 meters is worth it to go for a normal mixup after forward throw lol.
We don’t really know if it is 2 meters or 1 though.

In other news, Akuma got nerfed where he should have.
He lost some important stuff, but I believe he’ll still be a great character.
It’s not like Tokido spammed s.HK or anything.
But s.HK was indeed a great tool against several characters. Specially those against whom it hit crouched.
The nerf should’ve been: 30+50. Considering how the second hit is the hardest one to land (1- can be focused from afar + whiffs on a few crouching characters), it should hit harder.
That way they could nerf the first hit.
50+30 is a bit silly. Then again, it allows for a great followup combo, the stun was left unchanged, and it’s a great tool. I always thought that having him end at 0 on block after using it was lame. Considering the damage, stun, comboability and range from the move, being 0 on block was idiotic.
But we’ll see what Tokido has to say.
Remember when Abel got nerfed and everyone said he’d suck because his damage was extremely low, and his cr.hp would juggle as easily, etc etc? Juicebox Abel shrugged on that shit and beat Shiro at Evo2k11 finals with him.
Some nerfs are well deserved.
Also: EX Demon with EX Air Fireball is not a bad buff… It’s yet another way of changing your landing time, baiting shit from the opponent and punishing with EX Air Fireball, amongst other possibilities.

The way I see it, it’s still isn’t obvious does the zanku hadou cancel from ex df costs the meter, so if it doesn’t then it would give us some reason to use ex DF other then trying to catch the opponent of guard and the df throw -> dash -> ex DF divekick setup (which works mainly on rufus anyway), so don’t you think that’s nice?
Stop seeing only the bad shit, yeah I don’t like what they’re doing to Akuma, I don’t think any of us are, but at least today they gave some hope that we can actually have something new (and potentially vortex-worthy) in our arsenal, so I’m just trying to see the positive, and remain the hope that there are stiil some sane people in that developer department of theirs D:
Knowing Capcom I very much doubt that would be the case, if EX DF gives a free EX air fireball, then that’s good and the move wouldn’t be useless. Wasting 2 bars for EX DF into EX fireball is garbage though.
That setup doesn’t only work on rufus btw. It works on all shotos, guile, sagat, fei, yun, viper, rose and more. I just can’t remember the rest but it only hits them if they are holding back. If they are crouching they block it and if they are walking forward then it whiffs.
Stun is 230, damage is 180 now, so 200 is +20 buff.
IIRC Ken’s EX SRK did something like 240 in vanilla, now That’s damage lol.
Lol f* Capcom and the way they balance games…They are aiming for casuals to much, its plain annoying. They freaking nerf all the chars that require a good amount of skill like Akuma…Seth…C.viper…Makoto…but buff the braindead easy to play chars that are overused and can easily win with (note; not talking about tournaments) like Balrog…Ryu…Zangief + Online…Blanka + Online…Honda… Not to mention each one of those in 2012 (except Honda maybe) will be top tier. Get the hell out CC.

Yeah, I have no clue what route they’re taking Akuma on. But with this EX DF FB thing, maybe it’ll give us something. Just off the top of my head, if EX FB doesn’t change the DF trajectory, this might give us some tricky crossup fireball setups. If it does change trajectory, obvious bait material there. I’d spend two bars to save my life during a close game or fake someone out for high damage when they hit the ground for recovery.
If it does indeed cost 2 bars, is it really worth discussing? Akuma ain’t exactly a meter building machine, I hope 1 bar will cost the EX flip and EX air fireball, but that’s just wishful thinking.
I honestly want to know something, what’s the point of our health and stun rating right now? Serious question, I’m not kidding around, is it just because the character’s name is “Akuma”?
