SSF4 AE T.Hawk Match-up Thread

Uh, that’s what all scrub Hawks do. You couldn’t be more wrong.

I didn’t say it was the best way to get in, I said it seemed like the best way, but thanks for setting me straight. Would have been more helpful though to give me tips on the right way to close the distance with Hawk instead of just telling me I’m wrong. That’s why I’m here.

Don’t take it personal bro I wasn’t trying to be a dick or anything, just stating facts. Just walking your way in or using spire is probably the best way to close the distance. Don’t get caught up in the condor dive to spd stuff. That’s pure gimmicky scrub stuff that doesn’t work against decent players.

You have to be really careful about using spire to close distance, it’s so easily punishable if you whiff it… :frowning:

It’s cool. I’m aint mad, just expected a bit more than Lex Luthor when I was notified of a response. Water under the bridge now.

I’ve tried the walk-in thing and it didn’t work out well for me. The other guy (Ryu player) zoned me out and made sure to throw plasma at a distance where I can’t just EX spire through and hit him. He kept throwing plasma out, so I couldn’t advance without jumping or focus absorbing. Hawk’s have a lot of hangtime on his jump, and his dash is not very fast, so I got punished when I did either option too close. I did attempt to play the footsies game, but I wasn’t even close enough to hit him with standing roundhouse; the normal with the most range. Doesn’t help that it whiffs on crouchers.

I feel like the condor dive gave me the element of surprise because it instantly changed my jump trajectory and made the other guy afraid to throw projectiles. Not to say that Condor dive is foolproof, cause I got smacked outta that move too when I abused it, even on block.

You don’t even have to whiff it; Hawk can get knocked out of the move for free. It’s only immune to projectiles and throws, so anything else will punish or trade. What’s worse is that Condor Spire is a RDP command so you can’t perform it off a forward walk. If you anticipate a fireball you can’t just do :d::df::p::p: and get through; you gotta stop walking forward, and hit :b::d::db::p::p: very fast, and that’s only if you manage to get close enough to use it effectively.

I’m really curious to see what pro Hawk players do against solid shotos and other bad matchups where plasma is involved. Got any suggestions on who to look for?

The minute you him try to EX Slash you, you can literally mash crouch tech or OS SPD
Hell Try mashing Ultra 2… see what happens hahah I have never tried it before so I dont know off hand.

@ M.D Ill explain each one for you I guess…atleast my mind set.

I look at all Shotos pretty much the same… Be paitent walk them into the corner… You cant let the fact that plasma is coming into your face freak you out…

Is there a specific matchup you are wondering about…

Most, if not all fireballs that are shot when you 2.5 blocks away can be condor dived

Ryu and Bison are the main two. They seem to dominate me without much effort. Ryu throws plasma at a safe distance while punishing any attempts to get through and Bison can wait patiencely for me to make a move then punish. Guile is an honorable mention but I think he’s designed to counter Hawk hard, so there’s no easy way to fight him.

Bison is annoying, he can like, fly over the fucking screen, hes walkspeed is insane fast, im never close to bison

I played a 50 set vs a friend and his Juri offline last night. Based on our matches it was 6-4 in her favor, could be 7-3 if it’s like Ed Ma / Juicebox level.

Her cr. MP has a super low hurtbox and stuffs crossups/jumpins about 80% of the time.
All her jumping knockdown moves stuff any air move Hawk has but I’m not sure about elbow, didn’t think to try that much.
All her good pokes beat out Hawk’s at close range (like one character space distance). Thrust peak and even the awesome jab are mostly innefective due to her small hurtbox and speed.
If timed too late you can’t dive/splash her pinwheel.

Sweep and cr. MK are good but only if used at the furthest possible distance, sweep also goes under her regular FB so don’t abuse it to much.
Cl. MP on her wakeup will trade with pinwheel.
Having meter is important and you can spam empty spd from fullscreen without worrying about it hitting you.
EX dive obviously beats fireballs but at the same time it’s easy for her to fake them and her recovery is pretty fast compared to other fireball characters.
SPD on close dive kick if she does it from far and it barely touches you you can’t grab her.

I know this would work when you’re already standing but on wakeup?

If you press crouch tech vs meaty anything… you get blown up by it. Unless T-hawk has some invincible crouch tech :S

Could you not just EX SPD or U1 a meaty EX Slash? What with their invincibility. I duno, I’ve never played an Oni good enough to use it.

Yes you could. Oni slashes are only invuln to projectiles. He doesn’t go airborne so ultra 2 is outta the question. Unless he’s put you in a fear state or he’s mixing you up mid combo, i don’t really see any reason why Oni should ever throw out any slashes against hawk.

yeah probably, assuming you’re fast enough to reversal it on reaction. But normal throw? I can’t believe that won’t just get blown up.

I can imagine it’s not the easiest thing to beat on reaction. And I would be quite surprised if normal throw actually beats it.

Not sure if this has been discovered yet, but I found this combo and it only works on Juri. Do Crossover Splash -> Close S.MP -> Close S.MK -> LP Tomahawk Buster. This combo does 348 damage, which is ALOT for a meterless combo

Edit: Crossover Splash -> Close S.MP -> Close S.MK -> MP Tomahawk Buster works too! Again, it only works on Juri but does 357 damage.

Huh??? why are you guys stressing over trying to REACT to slashes as they come out??? AT BEST they’re -2 and at worst they’re -11 frames… Just block and grab!

Hungbee and KOG are the obvious ones.

There are other ones, find them by…
going to Sf4tube.com… and picking whatever match up you’d like…
subscribe to Overheadgreg/YogaFlame24 on youtube, they’be uploaded videos of solid T hawks I’ve never seen before.

It’s really impressive how some Hawks can jump on reaction to plasma and dive punish.

Personally, I like watching KOG, FuzzyPhi, and Sushiya.

I need advice vs. Claw. What is my best option against flips and his Izuna/dives? For the dives and Izuna other than jump back hk?

Flips: you can sweep them if you time the sweep a little bit late you can also do dash SPd pretty sure, smart Vegas wil respect it if. O blow up a back flip once
His wall tricks can but stuffed with angular jumps and strongs. The timings are weird so you have to practice them
Dash over condor spires help keep vega honest so that’s something to consider
You just have to block high on wake up to deal with his instant overheads… His dp is not good enough to catch him
His air grab bison stomp can be trust peaked but the timing is very strict.

I hope that covers something
