Personally, I feel the Sagat matchup is 6 - 4 in Sagat’s favor. I really don’t think the matchup is completely even like Joe Lewis or whoever else claims, but the thing I do agree on is that Hawk is a legitimate threat if he’s within mid-range of Sagat. If it wasn’t such a pain to close the distance on him while he’s chucking Tiger Shots and keeping you out, then yeah I’d say it’s a 5/5 matchup.
I agree with KOG about the dahlsim match up, I mean the match may start in his favour but once T.hawk is able to knock him down the matchup drastically changes to T.Hawks favor. As far as Sagat goes I agree that it’s 6-4 maybe 5.5- 4.5.
Its funny because my look on the T.Hawk matchup and alot different from the perspective of the people who been posting.
In my opinion his top 5 worst match ups are
I feel like we are almost afraid to play offensive?
I think thats why Japan hawks are at such a higher level. As American players I would say we play too safe. I have turned into an extreme of too safe but I think just in general we are so worried about winning and playing him right that we forget that T.Hawk dumbs games down already so hes doing to work for us.
I don’t blame us for playing too safe. Too much of what Hawk does is so baitable especially since he is the ONLY character in the game with no FADCable Special Moves and therefore has absolutely no practical uses for the FADC system. Some of us might be happy the Ver.2012 update is less then 2 months away, but personally for me I’d rather that they didn’t finalize everything yet. I really wished they we’re still working on the changes a bit longer so that we can get on Capcom’s ass about it.
Hawk sounds really viable in the next update, but he would be PERFECT (IMO) if Tomahawk Buster was FADCable, even if he has a million bad matchups o_O
Japanese Hawks are ridiculous not because they play reckless but because they have great footsies and don’t beat themselves with dumb mistakes. If we shouldn’t play safe then should we just spam cd’s, dp’s, and spires so we can get killed in ten seconds? Playing random might work against scrubs but decent players will make you look completely free.
Playing Hawk right is getting inside and causing havoc. If you’re staying mid-range all fight and not forcing your way into close range and holding it for as long as possible, you’re doing it wrong. “Safe” grappler play doesn’t get very far. =/
Obviously you wanna get in but it’s how you get in. Being patient while using footsies and working your way in or rushing and playing recklessly. I prefer the patient way but that’s just me.
It varies. As long as you’re not killing yourself to get inside, but not getting too comfortable with sitting at mid-range and using footsies for too long.
You guys have any advice on the Gen fight? I played against the best Gen I’ve ever seen tonight and just got destroyed. It was like 1-7. I just had no clue what to do or how to fight him.
I have some good knowledge on what to do in the Gen matchup. Firstoff T.Hawk’s C.MK is a great poke to use against Gen, and KojiKOG demonstrates how good this poke is to use against him -
This matchup is a huge footsies battle against a skilled Gen, so it really boils down to how patient you play. The biggest exposable weakness that Gen has is his high level of freeness once he’s knocked down or when someone’s in his face. Gen has a reversal (EX Gekiro), but it is highly unsafe to use due to it not being FADCable, having extremely long recovery as well as lacking a decent horizontal hitbox range.
A good Gen is a threat, but Gen is MOST threatening once he has a full Super Meter. Gen’s Super Moves are some of the most deadliest Super Moves in the game. Once he has a full Super Meter, he
So really, you have to be very careful against a Gen who knows how to manage meter. Once he has that Super, alot of what Hawk can do is literally twice as punishable with Gen being twice as deadly.
Been maining Hawk since AE dropped, he was a secondary through much of Super for me. After hitting locals for two months I jut wanted to drop some stuff I’ve picked up against the better players.

dan (yeah lol dan i know)

thats all i got for match up exp against good players so far. I play against good seth, blank and cody as well but i really have no advice that isnt super general.
Hey guys im an adon player looking for some matchup xp add me fnex madness
I told you guys the Sim matchup wasn’t bad. Fucking ages ago.
I played some casuals with Xian, I got destroyed. His pokes were amazing and I swear he comboed almost every one he landed, and I just could not find a safe way in. Might be able to beat him tomorrow if we get him drunk enough.
Played Ryan Hart in a ft3 against his Oni, fucked up an ultra punish in the last round of the first set to lose it. He cleaned me out the second set, but I’m going to say it’s probably not a bad matchup for hawk…
Oni is definitely a good matchup for hawk. Everything Oni has is really unsafe. I beat the combofiend Oni 3-1 at T12.
And here I thought I was the only one who though the Oni matchup was in Hawk’s favor. Glad to see I’m not alone there, he’s one of the few characters with a projectile that Hawk does well against, the few times I’ve fought Chris Hu’s Oni I’ve done very well, but against his Cody I get destroyed.
Oni vs Hawk is like 6-4 hawk.
You can wake up normal throw his cross up slash shinigans…
His DP can be safe jumped
His Fireball loses to condor dive
you can dash under spd his air slam
His “godlike” pokes get stuffed by crouch forward and stand/crouch jabs
The only thing Oni has going for him is that he hits like a truck.
Wat.
So it’s not possible for cross up slash to hit meaty?
I decided to pick Hawk back up again after dropping in Super cause I was getting tired of my usual picks. Wow, For so long, I gave Hawk players flak for constantly diving in at me then spinning the d-pad around for a command throw, but it seems like the best way to get in and punish against most of the cast. Instant, delayed and cross-up condor dives, then doing command grab, tomahawk or ultra if he whiffs it. I thought EX Condor Spire was Hawk’s greenhand, getting around projectiles and closing distance, but it doesn’t go very far and it’s not immune to physical attacks.
What do you guys do against shotos and bisons that don’t go airborne?
