SSF4 AE T.Hawk Match-up Thread

They aren’t too bad. Winnable 6-4’s for sure.

If they play the matchup wrong it’s not too bad. It’s not like Blanka that can just do anything and still win.

another tool in footsies that hawk has against Bisons who apply footsie pressure non stop is DP (I tend to use hp). I have a friend who plays a pretty decent bison, when I’m certain he’s gonna try to do his usual pokes, I dp his mk, hk, and sometimes his double knee press; this is usually done on prediction, bison’s pokes are too fast to DP on reaction.

obviously, don’t do this too often or randomly because if you miss, you will pay dearly. its worth mentioning that I did not whiff or get blocked very often at all when performing this so the tactic is legit.

That’s called playing the player not the character. Once you play someone often enough you get in their heads and know pretty much what they are going to do in certain situations. Not really Bison specific, but thanks for the input.

Akuma/gouken i have a bastard of a time if they know how to keep me out right with akuma going the air fireballs constantly when i corner them they just teleport out … rinse and repeat … chips my ass down to nothing and get timed out … gouken cause ive done it to enough t.hawks the damn Mp.fireball hist him in the feet if he jump and right in the face if he walks forward … once he get antsy and wants to get in jump hurricane kick out of corner rinse and repeat … sigh …

what do you do against a cammy that keeps you constantly blocking with true block strings ?

Gouken is soo easy. Its the easy matchup I have with the EXTREME shotots (Akuma, Sagat, Juri)

I walk forward… Block fireballs… and wait for a fuck up. Then when I get in I GO CRAZYYYY!!! Bawww Tatsud me out.

Really just turn the sound off so you don’t hear “SKADOUKEN!!” and your fine Matchup is really boring.

Guile’s air throw is the most absurd shit I have ever seen, I cannot beat this stupid ass move. look at its massive hit box.

so ridiculous. is there a sure fire way not to get dominated by this? I know someone said not to jump at guile, but how else are you going to get in on him? through his sonic booms and back fists? I hate this damn match-up.

the throw is getting 1 extra frame start-up in AE, making a 3-frame throw into a 4 frame one. shit should have like…8 frames of start-up or something, it simply too good at keeping people out. I hate jumping at guiles knowing they are going to attempt an air throw, and not be able to stop it. makes a hard match-up an impossible one.

Played LiquidSRK in a set out of 10 last night. I won 7-3. I like that matchup. :stuck_out_tongue:

I should hope so. Dudley gets destroyed by hawk.

I played a few Seth’s today and found out some cool stuff. The coolest thing I found out was how to get in if they’re zoning you with booms and j.hp. If you jump over a boom and do jab option select condor dive it will usually beat Seth’s j.hp and cancel into a dive, or Seth won’t do j.hp and you’ll do jumping jab over a boom.

Also, I played a good Viper/Adon (dude I met at a tourney, he’s pretty damn good). Spire = godsend against Viper. j.hp = godsend against Adon. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just keep adon out and your ok. . . .

Viper loses to Ultra 2 (WWITH HAWK WHHATT?!?!?)

A thing about seth is that he loses to minamalism.

Yeah I know about ultra 2. I always pick it against Viper.

Ultra 2 goes through Seth’s tandem typhoon chip.

Yeah but you have to be REALLY close to him. I know you said chip which implies being close in the first place, but you will get hit by the ultra if you about one character distance away.

Yeah, but if he’s trying to chip you from right up close it goes right through for a big punish on the other side.

in other, random matchup things: hp spire has some interesting startup frames. I haven’t checked the actually properties of it but if you os it on bison and he does ex psycho crusher (and you both end up going in opposite directions) he’ll actually pass through the startup of spire. So this lead me to believe hp spire has some sort of projectile invuln or something during startup. So i started testing with some projectiles and, as it turns out, if guile throws an ex boom you can do hp spire and it will pass harmlessly through you. So far, it’s the only projectile I’ve found fast enough to pass through the frames. builds meter and looks cool, but it isn’t exactly like the risk reward is good at all.

I’m just gonna drop the question here: T.hawk Vs. Chun li. whats the news with this match-up? I’ve heard the match-up is like 4-6 in chun’s favor (Gridman primairly), but some peopel act like its a 7-3. there’s scant peices of info on the match-up here and there, but no general write up on how the match plays out over-all. I don’t have any experiance figthting a good chun-li, and the match-up has me very curious, especially considering her footsies game.

Edit:
that HP spire thing is pretty cool. too bad there’s no hit box data displaying the specifics of it.

Chun is a very hard 6-4 if not 7-3. If they know the matchup they really shouldn’t lose unless they make more than a few mistakes. That being said TH won’t lose to bad Chuns in the same way he loses to any Blanka.

I agree. I’ve played some good ass Chun players (locally and online) and if they play the matchup correctly, I find it really difficult. Her s.hk is a wall.

The thing that’s helped me most though is one (if) I get in, when I do my jump in splash I OS an ex dp just in case. It’s really really helpful.

its cool giving me your general opinions, but anything specific? like what can you do? what should you look out for? whats the basic game plan?

if she’s not as bad a sim, guile, blanka and honda, there’s gotta be some strategy to look out for. I might dedicate some time to research this match-up.

EDIT: apparently, you can compete with her pokes much in the same way you can with Bison; use cr.mp, cr.mk and sweep. cr.mp can counter poke her s.hk and s.hp really well (this is surprisingly easy, but I may need more testing). sweep catches her crazy back dash, and its range is generally very useful for footsies, considering her extensive range for footsies. this is more along the lines of raw data, I need to find a good chun-li.
