everytime i play bison i feel its 5-5 match up. probably mostly because i never play good bisons.
i think bison is one of those match ups (like balrog) where the person who gets the life lead will win. i lost to a bison at SCR recently, and half of the match was him spamming devils reverse and me spamming lp spire for meter in the corners. whenever i had the life lead, he would try to pressure with scissor kicks, which can be stuffed by st. strong, so it was very hard for him to get in.
one problem i had though, was punishing blocked psycho crushers. it seems that the timing for mexican typhoon actually varies depending on what version of crusher he does, so i lost some big opportunities to punish. in retrospect, i should’ve just went for DP instead.
I just DP- it just for me feels safer.
Agreed. If he escape my mixups I leave him well alone and be content with my life lead… Going through his defense of st.hk and scissors kick just isn’t worth trying to continue momentum.
I don;t think DP is the right answer to that blocked psycho crusher, Bison can recover in time to block. If I remember you can identify which version of psychocrusher he’s using as each version go at a different speed and by observing this you can decide whether to spd or not.
Matchup strat for hawk is pretty basic
Get life lead…
Chill with your 1150…
Ko’ing helps too =/
I’m hopefully going to a tourney next Sunday. I’ll be repping Hawk. Hope I do well.
Chill? I never chill with T Hawk. Pressure all the time. Get a knock down, mix up, throw, win. It’s easy.
cheers

Except against half the cast that he has bad matchups and 1/3 of the cast really bad matchups. but yeah the others are cake. cheers
People don’t understand that Hawk sucks. . . .=/
IMO Geif and Hawk should be equal in level but its clearly obvious they are not.
he doesnt “suck” and depends on what you mean by “bad matchups.” i consider 4 only to be “bad” the rest are all very much winnable with a few being slightly more of a pain. you all know the 4 really bad ones, and the only 2 i consider 6-4 but a pain would be sagat and koomz. whatever, blame the character then not yourself.
Are you speaking on the “average” player’s skill? I do agree he doesn’t suck, but it’s like hangman and he’s close with “S-U-C”
-Did you watch Sako play Hungbee (who’s known as the best Hawk in CA) at SCR? Watch it here:

-Hugo101 beat me 95-5 with Cammy/Sagat/Dictator/Rose. I know that’s a subjective answer, but hey it’s numbers.
-Hawk is quite disadvantaged in his current state. The only thing that makes up for this is his health, damage output and then player skill.
Gridman I really wish you could come down to SoCal and play against our best. You’d soon find alot of the matchups look more like 7-3s and 8-2s. If you want I’ll try to setup an XBL match with Hugo101.
Sorry fellow Hawk brother but I gotta call you out on this one. :lovin:
What are Hawks 4 really bad match’s if I might ask?
Hungbee is also known for not really playing SSF4. Hes a 3s player am I wrong? Like I said, its fine, keep blaming the character and not yourself. No one is arguing that hawk is at a disadvantage and needs some changes but you all act as if hes some terrible character whos unplayable. Sans those 3 8-2 matchups (honda i think is 7-3), hes littered with 6-4 matchups for sure but that doesnt mean hes awful.
edit: sim (8-2) guile (8-2) blanka (8-2ish or 7-3) and honda (7-3)
He’s great for teams.
I agree that he doesn’t suck, he’s just disadvantaged compared to a lot of the cast. A lot of matches that people say are unwinnable are definitely winnable (except for the dreadful 4 of course, lol). I’m still hoping to level up my skill (so eventually once I get good I can just blame the character and not me :P). I’m not the greatest player, but you gotta keep trying to level up. I’ll probably keep trucking with Hawk through AE (provided it gets ported to consoles). Still hoping to rep him and place well in tournaments.
T Hawk’s not that bad. Who cares what the tier list say about match ups, granted he does have some really really bad matches, but if you play smart every match up is winnable. I’ve been using Hawk since street fighter 2 days, yes, he’s no Zangief, but that doesn’t mean he’s not good. Good pokes, long range normals, huge power, huge life, what’s not to like? I do understand he has very little options in general. I find myself doing the same combo’s and tick setups most of the time, but they work if and when the AE update come out there he should be pretty solid, giving him a EX condor dive could be useful, and doing it during a back jump helpful.
cheers
Suck was an inproper word.
My problem is I will always lose games because I am T.Hawk. In addition, a lot of logical situations that he should have a 100% answer for and when you just base it on logic it should work but its more like a 70% answer and even then its a 50/50. Its an unfortunate reality. Granted character skill eliviates some problems however, you can only go so far with skill on an sub-par character.
Another thing is that his flaws are so obvious. It is just very dissapointing that all of the added characters in Super are sooo incomplete because they were most likely not tested at ALL and just thrown in there.
He is designed like a counter-pick character.
I just wish that his obvious flaws on things THAT SHOULD WORK ( I.E cross up jump short*.) and actually make him a realible character
If you are not getting my point im saying that right now, he is so close to be so good but there is so much that is bogging him down.
*. The short example is just a laundry list of things that confuse me as to how no one caught these things.
You laugh it off when the game first comes out "Lol, he (blahblahblahblah) but then when you go deeper you begin to realize “Are you really serious?”
The only things about him that piss me off are:
Inability to hit some chars on them jumping back with CD (try this against Ryu and Ken and you will eat combo). I’ve literally had Hawk’s head sniffing Ryu’s nuts and I still get hit in the air, then I’m on the ground and get combo’d. Makes no sense.
The other is the Blanka Matchup. Others are hard (Dictator and Vega give me fits), but winnable. Guile, Honda, Sim I rather enjoy the challenge and do make them end up pretty close. I feel I can win any fight with Hawk except Blanka.
Youre playing shitty sims and guiles if they even let you in once. No joke.
Also Joe - if you feel that its all the character and not you, play a top tier or someone with answers to everything. You seem pretty confident in yourself.
Gouken and Akuma are pretty terrible also.
