Slow walk speed, Ryu ex shoryu is fully invincible unlike ken, Ryu has more knockdown options, fadc ultra, Ryu has better zoning pressure.
This may change in AE but ken feels like he has glue on him compared to Ryu with very few exceptions.

As for Ken, his problem, imo, is knockdowns. With Ryu, any combo you end, you get a knockdown. Can even sweep for the untechable. In super, Ken can’t do any of that. His setups are off srk knockdowns and throws. This changes in AE.
im new to ryu. but i think that the jump tatsu in the corner to escape is imperative to a ryu defense in my opinion. thats like taking away the invincibility frames to balrog’s turn punch to counter fireball spammers. more or less.
Except, Ken now has Ryu’s old c.mk, jab to sweep combos, didn’t lose air tatsu escape and is still unpredictable as fuck. AE is not a projectile zoning game, it’s a footsie zoning game. Ken’s footsies are better and he has the same untechable knockdowns, actually more thanks to kara throw.
I’ve always thought ryu vs cammy was 6-4 ryu’s favor, its so easy to zone her out IMO

huh? Ken’s c.mk wasn’t changed. Ryu’s c.mk change gives it the same amount of active frames as Ken’s has(4). Ken’s c.mk starts up in 4 frames and is -4 on block, though. Ryu’s is 5 frames and -0 on block(unless that changed, too).
Have you seen how Sako was able to dance around Daigo’s hados early in that one gods garden set? Dive kicks are an amazing tool for dealing with that at a range.
Pretty sure Ryu’s c.mk has always been -3 on block. (0 on hit.) This is not easily punishable by most characters.
AE Zangief’s increased lp spd range does scare me for this reason though. (It was increased to be just under Ryu’s c.mk max range.) AE Ryu’s c.mk may have its frame advantage on block improved. But unless it’s made to be better than -2 somehow, c.mk may be that much more difficult to use against Zangief.

Does anyone know about his fix on his EX Tatsu? I never see anyone talk about that. c.hp xx ex tatsu generally only did 4 hits. Does it do 5 now or did they just fix that broken shit where it’ll whiff and they’ll be in block stun? That’s 40 more damage in a lot of places if it does 5 hits.
I’m not sure why you think that. All of Ryu’s harder matchups got nerfed. A few people think the tatsu escape is going to be a huge detriment. It kinda sucks but I purposefully quit using it when I knew it was getting removed. Have you seen how they changed the air tatsu? That shit drops a lot faster. That’ll create faster mixups and stuff (I think!)
I think he’s going to be just like he was in Super console. Pretty even keeled and still a solid tourney character.

I know Daigo said this game is no longer a projectile one, but I mean we’ve only added 2 characters (who definitely have their ways around projectiles) and it’s not like other people gained tools to get around that crap (that i know of?). Did you guys realize that Zangief’s jab spd range is about (if not) the distance of Ryu’s c.mk… Now that kind of freaks me out. Does s.mp stick out further than c.mk? If so at least there’s something.

there are 3 matches against the twins. It doesn’t seem like there is a problem with ryu but more of the fact that these damn twins are overly aggressive.
I see why they took the air tatsu away though. What I would would imagine is those crazy twins would constantly trap ryu in the corner and ryu would tatsucopter away all match. Too bad they didnt give him anything up close to make up for it.
Hopefull there is a block string that will end s.mp xx hado that will pust your opponant far away or something. I dunno.
Hahahhahaha, it would be pretty useless against Yang. You tatsucopter away from me, and you’re eating HK roll kick, Ultra 2 or catchup teleport. You can do it to Ken and Sakura, so it would be similar for Ryu or Akuma. Against Yun it may do decently, since he doesn’t have any form of tracking move.

Played Arcade Edition yesterday and for some reason I couldn’t link c.mp after cl.rh in the corner maybe my timing was off. Ryu st.mp special cancellable is godlike. I can say that Ryu is still Ryu.
