You have to auto correct your srk, against Bison sometimes its better to block since some set up may make your srk whiff.
After a forward throw walk jump hp cannot be auto correct if the set up if perfectly timed. Some good Bison player told me its really
hard to time the set up perfectly.

Need help with
Chun Li
Vega ( Claw )
Blanka - Really hate Blanka
- Walk forward and crouch block/jab. Blanka is dead in the corner
- End all combos with tatsu to push him to the corner (including blocked slides: cr.mk xx tatsu)
- Learn to bait slides (eg. jump back, walk forward till the edge of slide range and do a focus attack)
- Preserve meter for comboing into super. You can punish Blanka balls that don’t knock down on hit
- No reason whatsoever to be at fullscreen distance from Blanka
- Abuse cr.mk during footsies, but watch your spacing as Blanka’s st.hp counters it
- After Blanka b.throws you, watch for dash, j.mk. You can auto-correct DP it but the window is a bit tight. Practice beating it in training mode. Knowing how to auto-correct DP is essential for this match.
- Blanka has a safe jump after a forward throw. One way he sets it up is off a whiff lp ball, then step back and jump mk. Another is just to time and space it manually. Don’t try to DP if your opponent knows how to do it.
- Jab him out of all hop mixups. It’s easy to react to them. Confirm into tatsu or cr.hp, DP depending on the life/time/position situation
- Frame trap the shit out of him on wake up when he doesn’t have meter. His fastest crouch tech option is 4f, is not chainable and doesn’t have the greatest range or priority. Start your pressure with a meaty cr.mp or cr.lk. It will beat everything except EX V.Ball and EX Rainbow
- Remember than Blanka gets up 2f slower after a sweep - don’t bother with safejumps and remember to adjust your meaty timing
- There’s nothing Blanka can do to you if you just block and anti-air all his jump ins. His throw range is below average so he has to get closer than normal (he does have a kara throw though). You can poke him out of everything if he gets too close. It’s just a matter of who has the best footsies at mid to close range.
- Don’t abuse Focus Attacks during footsies cos good Blankas will bait and punish with st.lp xx hop
- Avoid pressing buttons when under pressure unless you’re going for DP FADC. It’s pretty easy to get counter-hit by seemingly random pokes. Plus watch your crouch techs as Blanka’s fast walkspeed makes it easy for him to step out of crouch tech range to make it whiff, then step in and kara throw you. If you followed my advice about preserving meter this won’t be an issue cos Blanka has to respect DP FADC
- If possible punish balls on reaction with DP. Otherwise cr.lp and cr.mp will also beat it clean and have reset potential.
- This is an endurance match for both players and will stretch your understanding of your fundamentals and patience in general. Don’t get frustrated and don’t get careless even if you have a big lead. Blanka U2 still punishes fireballs/bad jumps and U1 hurts a lot.
Ditto for info on claw. He dominates that footsies c.mk range of ryu and his floaty jump doesn’t have a lot of horizontal range on it. Very easy to get baited and st.hk doesn’t reach. He can punish blocked fireballs after c.mk xx had. Other than trying to win off a single knockdown. It’s a hard fucking matchup.
Nice write up on the blanka match up Ilitirit.
Couple more things I can add from my experience in this match up:
-If you land a Focus crumple, good time to do st.hk, c.hp xx tatsu it land an incredible amount of stun.
-If you face a Blanka that does random rainbow ball, simply do a very late Focus until level 3 for crumple
-In the corner you can use c.lk, c.lp + c.hp as an option select to prevent Blanka from Rainbow ball out
-If Blanka activate ultra 2 anti fireball from pretty far, immediatly jump forward and block the second wave of his
ultra; you then have to time to take a step and punish with Sps. If hes trying to chip from far you can try to air
tatsu and hit him. Its possible in 2012 but timing is pretty difficult.
-If Blanka his wrongly using hp verticall ball ( mp ball is safe) on you dont forget to take a step forward and punish with Sweep.
-Learn the Blanka range slide. You can throw safe hadouken just a centimeter out of his max range.
Just remember to watch out for when it’s a reversal because it will break your focus attack
This is actually one thing I advise against in v2012 because EX V.Ball knocks down now. In previous versions you could still punish on hit if you went for the OS and got hit by EX V.Ball. IMO it’s better to maintain position on the edge of footsie range because you can punish Rainbow Roll with cr.hp on reaction, and there’s pretty much nothing Blanka can do with his back to the wall outside of random hops. If he doesn’t have meter you can do what even you want after a knockdown though.
Wow thanks you guys and Pieton I think I’ve played you on xbl, your a high ranked Ryu right?
Thx I wasent aware of this, but Ive notice from time to time my Focus gotten broken by Rainbow ball.
Do you mean you would advice not to go for a meatie after a knockdown with Blanka in the corner and simply keep your zoning distance ?
What the best approach when you have a Blanka who like to throw a lot of c.hp at sweep range. Ive met a couple of blanka who like to whiff a lot of these and I wasent able in the heat of action to tell how to counter this.
Your name tell me something, I think weve play recently. I wouldnt consider myself a high ranked Ryu but I trying my best.
Add me on Xbox live if you want
GT = LethalBlaze K
I am presently taking a break from playing but I will when I get back in action.
Going for a meaty is a gamble if he has meter because you can’t OS EX Rainbow roll any more. Well, you can, but if he does EX V.Ball you lose momentum, health and position and Blanka gets an opportunity to turn the tables on you.
It’s easily whiff punishable (just sweep as soon as it whiffs), and if you have super you can punish it easily on block (you can also easily whiff punish it with super). So a good tactic is to walk forward to bait it and then block and punish with shinkuu (same as you would do with Chun Li’s who like to poke with sweep). If you don’t have super and they insist on using this move when you’re in a position to block it, just step back slightly and do a focus attack. They won’t be in range to st.lp xx hop and the cr.hp is slow enough so that you can score a focus crumple.
hey can i get some advice on the ryu vs dee jay match.
including how to beat his double sobats and hop jumps, and other shenanigans
I am not a specialist in this match up but couple of things I know:
-You can punish all his Sobbat on block with a sweep. The Ex from far is use to go throw fireball so try
to bait him to do it. It has a long block stun so time your Sweep accordingly. When youre in about sweep distance
some Deejay like to do the light Sobbat. You can sweep on block but you have to do it instantly since the block stun is almost
inexistant.
-When he his hop jump if you dont have time to srk or your unsure of your spacing a simple st.lp with put Deejay in place
-Safe jumping from a sweep set up is very safe but after a throw its very hard to time a safe jump. Also Deejay has an incredible auto correct reversal to beat cross up attempt.
Option select is not perfect vs deejay after a safe jump because OS sweep or OS srk dont catch his back dash. Os Tatsu does but will lose against all his reversals.
Maybe some other that have more experience on the match up can expand further
Good write up, if anyone else knows anything about this match up please leave a comment
guys another one,
how do u play against fei, what to use to punish etc?
ive read air ryus guide, but that was prior to v2012
so all the ryu gurus out there, how to punish specific situations?
rekkas, ex rekka? = sweep?
chiken wing?
what OS do u guys use?
all help will be greatly appriecieated
the Japanese have good practice with the Shoryuken 2 u punch high I learned these lessons in this video am an expert with long practice and much exeprriansia with ryu
Usually Feilong players will use lp Rekka for their 1st one ( to get the hit confirm) since its mostly safe on block.
Its -4 on block so unless Feilong really mess up his spacing theres nothing you can do but keep blocking.
Super could punish any Rekka if you had it stocked.
Now if Feilong follow by a 2nd Rekka now hes open for punishment.
Srk would be the safe and sure option to punish.
You have to understand there is a mini
mind game going after the 2nd Rekka ( -8 on block). Srk will defeat any mind game
with invulnaribility frames. But you can try to punish with something bigger
like c.hp xx srk for example. Thats where the mind game lie, If Feilong do the 3rd Rekka
this will beat your c.hp. But if you happen to expect the 3rd one you can block and
deliver the goods with Solar Plexus.
Ex Rekka is Safe on Block. Usually Fei long player will throw the 1st and 2nd Ex Rekka
since there no downside to it. Fei long end up at -1 on block. 3rd Ex Rekka is punishable
but Its very unlikely to happen.
If Feilong has bad spacing its pretty easy to whiff punish a Rekka in the air with a Sweep.
If you happen to be jumping forward while Fei long do his Rekka look for C.hp xx srk on his
Rekka recovery.
Chicken Wing:
Both the HP and EX version are 0 on block. So its a neutral situation where my main option
will be to grab after blocking it. LP version is -4 on block and can be punish by Srk.
C.mk will lower your hit box and make chicken wing miss, and you can punish with c.hp xx srk.
Safe jump:
No perfect Os in this match up.
Os Srk
-beat back dash
-beat Chiken Wing
-lose to Frame Kick reversal
Os Sweep ( slow version ; quick version will lose to Frame Kick)
-beat back dash
-guard against Dragon Flame and have time to puish with Solar plexus
-Chicken Wing will make you Os Whiff leaving both player at a neutral situaiton ( Perhaps Feilong has time for something not sure)
Personnaly I prefer to do no OS at all unless Feilong player showing me he like to back dash on wake up.
Normal Safe jump will allow you to punish both Frame Kick and Chicken Wing and Ultra 1.
Feilong Ultra 1 hit 5 times, be careful to keep blocking all of them since theres a ‘hole’ between his 4th and 5th hit that
will break your auto-guard. On block Sps or Ultra 1.
Hope this Help
thanks for the info
about the 2nd rekka hit (-8), i find that many times its too far away to srk. So i find the only way to punish is sweep, or cmk, or super.
am i missing something here?
but thres a problem in this, if i sweep after the 2nd hit, he can counter hit me with a 3rd rekka if he delays it.
when you say OS sweep (SLOW)
how do you do this? arent you inputing the sweep in the air? so it will come out if the jump in misses?
