Your right second Rekka will often be punishable only with Sweep because of spacing.
Its back to the mind game ; is he going to cancel into 3rd Rekka ? You should Sweep must
of the time since the risk of block 3rd Rekka is a Solar Plexus, your risk reward ratio is pretty good.
You see top Fei long player like Mago or Fudoo taking big Risk with the 3rd Rekka sometimes.
Os Sweep: Actually between slow and fast there isnt much difference.
Fast: hitting the hk button 2 times quite fast ( from a safe jump j.hk and os c.hk)
Slow: hitting the hk buttion 2 times with a controlled speed
Actually if you want to be sure to have the timing down hit training mode. Record
Ryu doing Sweep, jump hk , Os c.hk . Now do a Flame kick with Fei long.
if its block it mean you have the slow os timing if it hit you have the quick sweep timing.
Other Test you could do . Record same as above vs Balrog and try to Head Butt. If the head butt
get sweep if mean fast timing, if the head butt is block slow.
Vs Adon. Jaguars quick block = slow timing Jaguars quick land = quick timing. etc
In general you do can the Sweep Os Slow and it will allow you to block reversal in all match up, where its possible to block.
Its good to be aware theres really 2 speed you could input your Os Sweep and it can change the property of the move and your
ability to block reversal.
Ah ok, i think i managed to get this down. This is pretty cool.
so in what match ups should i use the FAST OS?
because as you mentioned, the SLOW OS seems to be better.
In terms of OS, what do u do against ex messiah kick?
since its a slow move with invincibility, only ex dp?
ALso, another match up i find i suck at, is the ibuki match up. fairly rare a character to meet
Im not entirely sure what i can punish and what i cant.
spin kicks, target combos,
esp her over head jump in followed by the kunai (hein)
also i found that her sweep hops over backdashes, so i been using tatsu for the OS.
With viper, I want to shut down burn kicks. Maybe with lk? He doesn’t have a Ryo style sho-o-ken type move that goes straight up so someone help me with improvising.
With seth, what seems to work is rushing HIM down first.
Ryu used to have a section for match-ups in the Vanilla sf4 wiki that was really nice for looking things up. It has been henceforth deleted.
TNB, I can’t say I know too much about the Viper match up. I barely fight any and idk what the heck im doing. I barely win in that match up. Good footsies and well-times AA’s. Burning kick? I’m not 100% sure, but I think you can U2 it, so I’ve heard. It’s best that you just block in the opposite direction, they usually end up as cross ups, and you can tell sorta. but if it’s not, then you gotta block the right way.
Seth, you should be very careful in this match. Yes, rushing him down and killing him quickly is best but do be careful, good seths will screw you over.
Mind the wall jump attack when he’s on the far side of the screen, get ready to AA. If they do sonic boom on wake up and teleport near you, most likely they are gonna go for SPD, but you can’t always be certain, but a nice lp shoryu can stop that. Maybe backdash too.
Sorry, I’m not too knowledgeable on those matchups. hope I did something lol.
Anywho guys, I need some help with the Bison match up.
I just always have a hard time beating them, it’s always down to the wire and they’re just plain annoying. I know Cr. MP completely stops scissor kick. but what else can I do? I find myself blocking against EVERYTHING he does, ESPECIALLY in the corner. I just can’t move! it’s ridiculous. I always have to use my meter to fadc out of an uppercut just in case or something. it’s ridiculous. If there’s any general advice on fighting him, I’d appreciate it.
Yeah I dont like fighting Bisons as well. All they do is mash s.HK & s.MK. Then its corner scissor kick pressure into the corner.
Its lke all Bisons have only 1 style.
I try to be more patient with them and not be tempted to jump out of the pressure. When I do win its because I rush him down.
you can also stop his sissor kick with standing jab , standing light kick and standing medium punch ( a bit tougher but it works).
so if your in the corner i suggest using standing light kick to stop his sissor pressure. air mentioned this in his matchup cross counter guide too but i personally tested moves that stuff his kick and it works. make sure to neutral jump hard punch his head press so he cant hit you and also crouch medium kick his devils reverse ( the dive punch move from the air after first initial fake head press)
SK is 10 frame, If you play Ryu you can’t have trouble with something that slow. You should not even be at S.HK range/S.MK range anyway, just keep hadouken on the screen at all times and maximize every punish window you get, get that J.RH in and start mixing up and buffer tatsu at all times to punish back dash.
Daigo just got bodied at a major tournament by a Gen player. How is that match up? I assume its in Ryu’s favor. Anyone here know the match up well and can break down the set? People in the chat were saying Daigo knew the match up and was getting out played but I’m not sure since I never run into any Gens.
I know im late and it may already be in here but heres a tip for fighting guile (my source is Daigo fighting dieminion)
When fighting guile dont throw fireballs in his foward fierce range just block and unpredictably move foward and do low foward and cancel into hadoken or if your close enough do tatsu so you can get him to the corner. this will help eliminate MOST of guiles pressure and allow guile to be pressured himself. only thing guile can do if you follow this is try hitting you with that poke above i mentioned and of course sonic boom. be very patient and you will over come him and he may make a mistake or try to reversal you when you dont do anything. when your at about partly past some of the low foward foot tip you can do tatsumaki when you know an agreesive guile commits to sonic boom but use this at your own risk because he will be trying to poke you anyway!
Ryu vs Abel: crouching light punch 2x + overhead punch change up with quick cross ups, but do not jump near him too much since he’s known to grab-in-air alot. Hurricane kick when you see him Focus since I’ve seen alot of Abel players utilize the Focus many times; you can also do a few hadokens and follow with a hurricane kick, if he is crouch blocking, immediately do an overhead punch…
This isn’t actually an OS, that’s why it’s confusing. You’re just safe jumping and blocking. You can do whatever you want after that. Pieton is just going with sweep. It just occurred to me why I have seen Daigo do j.RH (safe jump) then walk back. He must know that walk back can punish flame kick, you can punish a throw tech, and I dont know what happens with chicken wing. Maybe it goes over Ryu’s head and it can be punished. Someone should check that out.
I’m guessing backdash leaves you equal, with Fei losing a bit of distance (which is good in this matchup) and gives you some info about your opponent.
I see good Ryu’s use ground attacks on Rufus’ wakeup, specifically cr.short, cr.short, cr.jab. Ex Messiah will hit a couple times, then go over Ryu’s head, allowing Ryu to punish. If you want to jump in, EX DP works clean for an os, and I think mp.dp trades.
If it’s unblockable, then why is it surprising that he got hit.
Also, when I get my stick back, I want some Ryu mirrors with someone who is decent.
Did anything change in the match up with Rufus? Seemed like Justin Wong and Ricky Ortiz were just toying with Daigo. They pretty much destroyed him. Its supposed to be a 7-3 match for Ryu. Or perhaps Jwong has finally surpassed Daigo?
You must have missed the whole first match where Daigo destroyed Justin. Also, you may have missed the part where Daigo was jet lagged and missing things that were totally uncharacteristic of him. here’s the link so you can watch the first match.
Daigo dropped things here and there, but it was a legit beatdown. There were points in the match where he was clearly out-footsied and he made a few bad reads that cost him dearly.
