SSF4 AE Ryu Match-up Thread

^ I said that too!+1

Thanks! Iā€™m no daigo though :frowning: My play style is a mix between 3s and st that I try to incorporate in sf4, yeah I know itā€™s a different game but works though, have to adjust a little more to make my ryu effective in this game. I wanted to post some of my match videos here but have to find someone first who have time to record them.

BTW, to avoid the mixup after blocking Tiger Knee (throw or DP), use the throw + focus backdash Option Select. Press throw + Focus Attack and mash backdash. Youā€™ll avoid the Tiger Uppercut and the throw.

LOL pressing all four buttons will make my fingers busy. Oh well good luck with me at the arcade later.

after looking at infiltrations interview me and some friends talked about who they would replace if anyone on infiltrations top 10 list. everyone mainly said theyd take out rufus and put in someone else. i said i would put ryu in his place and a friend mentioned why he would and even said because of bad matchups like c viper and juri.

since when is juri and c viper a bad matchup? mind you he doesnt main ryu and hes going based on airs guide which is outdated. what are your thoughts on this?

Anyone have any up to date matchup info. against Bison. It seems like Bisons are one of my bogey characters and a havent got a high win rate against him.
Its typically scissor kick, standing HK, repeat etc.

What strategy do yo have against really strong Bisons players ?

I donā€™t have a clue myself apart from ā€œlow strong is goodā€, but Valle and Happy Medicine played a long set recently, see if you can pick something up from there:

against bison here is what you should do.make sure you dont throw out too many fireballs when he has even 1 bar of ex meter ( he can punish with ex sissor kick very easily). use fireballs wisely as pokes and sparingly. avoid doing the crouching mk into hadoken on block if he has meter because he can always punish with ex sissor kick. dont be afaid to counter poke his sissor kick (regular) with standing far light kick, crouching medium punch. or even standing medium punch. make sure you punish all jump ins and get in on his ass! if he does a real head stomp and you see it coming then premptively neutral jump and do hard punch it beats him clean and he cant ever hit you if you do it early enough. use crouching medium kick to avoid being hit by devils reverse ( the move where he fake doing a headstomp and dives towards you with his fist after he back flips upside down. . on bisons wake up after a throw or sweep be sure to option safe jump into option select shoryuken or tatsumaki to punish his options on wake up ( i prefer shoryuken because if he does ex headstomp he gets stuffed and gets hit by free ultra/super/ followup.if he teleports well at least you can remember he does it and do tatsu next time since it also punishes psycho crusher for free!

bottom line is make sure you block all of his sissor kicks if you cant tell when he will do it. ex sissor kick on block is extremly unsafe and he can be swept out of it as well as his hard kick sissor kick and i believe his medium kick as well. make sure to keep him away accept when you score a knock down thats when you can apply some up close pressure for free thanks to safe jumps and what not.

Looks like Iā€™m toe to toe now with Sagat. Win ratio is much better. But suddenly a wild Seth appeared and I didnā€™t win. Heā€™s one of those Sethā€™s that likes to run away throwing boomā€™s and fp. Itā€™s really hard to get close to him.

Learn to sweep his FP on reaction. If you slowly walk forward and block eventually heā€™s gonna go for a wall jump then you punish that with auto-correct DP or j.mp into DP or something.

Use the distance against sagat with seth. If he jumps at you, dont dp coz its a bait using his dive kick. (from that distance)
He will come close via focus too. You can buffer cr.mk lpdp.
Against seth, play the player. Be mindful of his habits

Hey srry to mess with the thread but I want some help with Ryu,I feel I hit a wall my psn is ichigo334

Sad to see Daigo get thoroughly bodied by Infiltration again. Is this really an even match up? I mean Akuma is better than Ryu in every way except health. All he needs is like one knockdown and your done. Ryu canā€™t really do much when he gets the knockdown.

I am a big fan of Daigo but I think Infiltration is playing better right now. I think Daigo did a fair job of blocking after a knockdown and lost mostly because Infiltration all around game was better. I still see this match up at about 5-5.

i am the only one that thinks that its ridiculous that, if daigo predicted it, he was only able to punish a teleport with a fireball (without super or ultra)!? Did he think that it was to risky to try an option select like, for example, the hurricane kick? i am asking this because ,even if there is not a big diference in damage between those two options, at least with the hurricane kick, if you guess right the direction of the teleport, you basically have cornered akuma counting the distance that akuma trabels towards the corner because of his teleport and then the distance that he travels because the hurricane kick hits him. After that akuma may escape from the corner with a demon flip but at leastā€¦ you triedā€¦
Daigo almost never punishing the teleport (i dont know why) and daigo not being able to do anything about infiltration using the sweep over and over once infiltration had ultra 1ā€¦ if infiltration can use those two options alot ,without being punished the mayority of the time, plus all the other tools that akuma hasā€¦ the matchup is still 5-5?

Daigo just didnā€™t adapt. You canā€™t compare skills or talk about the matchup based on that match.

As a Ryu player it was disheartening to the best Ryu get totally destroyed like that. I think having solid fundamentals doesnā€™t mean crap in this game nowadays its all about having a bullshit vortex. Air said in his blog a while back that Ryu will never win a major I didnā€™t want to believe it, but now I do.

So this is why Daigo demolished the best vortex user in the world and was taken down by a player known for his strong fundamentals.

Daigo aside, I still think the matchup is at least 6-4 in Akumaā€™s favor. Akuma outclasses Ryu in nearly every aspect of the game. Superior fireball game, much faster walkspeed, better mixup, better damage output in most situations, DP-safe vortex, normals that are just as good or better, more invincibility on SRKs. Aside from lower health and stun, the only thing that kept that matchup even in Vanilla was Ryuā€™s Super Trap (which he no longer has), and his ability to FADC Ultra. Thatā€™s no longer a major factor due to the overall damage nerfs.

So what is it that possibly makes this matchup even?
