Thanks fellaz, seems like it’s good against grapple characters/grab specials, tried it again against a decent gief and it seems like it totally wrecks Gief’s shit at the right range, i’ll deffo start utilizing it against vega and hawk, also found it stuffs abel’s wheel kick if you get it out in the first half of the wheel animation, it’s also a good block to abel’s step kick aswell. More info to come i guess! Ty for the replies!
no problem man! message here anytime your struggling or want help with something. just make sure that also you go into training mode and practice all possible ranges for counter pokes whiff punishes and everything else such as anti airs and what not. set the dummy to do said attack and then have them cr block if said attack can be blocked low for 2 or 3 seconds.
I really need help against Dudley. I feel like everything he does is safe.
Any tips?
try to test the dudley first by whiffing standing jab. see how he reacts. if he does any ducking then you should have an idea of his ideal range he wants to use this move. know that you can punish ducking even though it is very tough but you can hit him out of ducking with low attacks such as low foward. dont be afraid to fireball but be smart about it. dudley is unsafe on ex machinegun blow so shoryuken after all of the blocked ex machine gun blows. honestly i would say play him at mid distance because far range he just dodges all your fireballs and its harder for him to guess if your gonna do it or not at a closer range. dudley is very dangerous at close range so try not to let him in. also watch out for his jumping towards roundhouse because the hitbox is very very good for dudley! if he does ducking straight just block hes very safe doing this move.
if you have any more trouble i will help you out just reply back
Thanks a lot. I’ll try those!
Dudley can’t do anything to you if you walk forward and crouch block and cr.mk to keep him in check. DP him if he jumps, sweep him if he tries fst.mp (he cannot react to cr.mk, but will do it pre-emptively out of range where it beats cr.mk), SPS him if he does FA (practice this and know the ranges and situations they are most likely to do it). It’s not as simple as that in a real match of course, but if you keep that in mind you should be fine. Watch out for gimmicks like lp MGB/level FA/st.hp into EX DP FADC. Use a delayed crouch tech or option select throw + focus + backdash to escape that mixup. Whiff cr.mps to throw him off if he is trying to duck through hadoukens. It also beats some of his normals handily. Try not to give up any space in this match. If he walks back, you walk forward. If you’re tempted to walk backward, just remember the first bit of this paragraph and hold your ground. Once you get cornered you’ve pretty much lost the match.
You can safe-jump all his options (sweep, then hold up/forward immediately), but on your own wake up it’s very dangerous. Dudley’s typical options include cr.lk into combo/frame trap-throw mixup, overhead into combo, step back f.hp (beats throws/techs, evades reversals) and comboes on counter-hit if he is close enough, a deceptively slow cr.hk to juggle you, fake meaty into nj.hk to beat counter-throws, fake meaties to bait reversals, or a string into EX sway which combos into U2 in the corner. If they go for the step back hp, they’ll usually do it from a range where you can’t punish with sweep, so watch for this because they can jump your sweep and land a fat combo. Mid-screen you also have to worry about a guess Ultra, or cr.lk into lp MGB which beats backdash and focus backdash. In practice it’s a straight up guess, but in general you want to backdash or DP FADC while you are midscreen, while in the corner you can consider jumping tatsu (evades the step back st.hp, fake meaties and throws but loses to meaties and st.mp/EX Cross Counter if Dudley reacts), or just guessing high or low block.
Two things i can suggest, not sure if this was touched on. If you can get a sweep/throw you can do a safe jump hk xx OS(tastu), as a lot of bison will teleport backwards and get hit removing that option (if they backdash they will get caught also). and others try to use ex pyscho crusher and the hk will stuff it. Then a lot of them like to spam the headstomp. You can neutral jump fierce punch and ryu sticks out his first straight infront of him. That will beat the headstomp. Thats all i can really suggest :D. Hopefully this helps set up some spacing and gives you an advantage to stay out of the corner. If you’re in the corner against bison its GG
Ok we still have local arcades here and have SSF4 AE cabinet which has really long lines. We don’t like online gaming here with with fighting games. Since this is the non 2012 version, using Ryu is like an uphill challenge. I’m doing well so far but the only trouble I have now is against this Sagat player who uses U2. He’s the only player I cannot beat. He owns me in zoning and once he gets U2. He waits for me to throw a fireball then he goes for the ultra. Any strats for this kind of sagat?
Stepping up your game first of all. Ryu-Gat is a very fundamentals-oriented match. The fireball war cannot be won as such unless he’s super heavy on low tigers, but you can hang in there pretty well while working your way in. If he has a hair trigger on U2, you could try feints to get him to blow it. If the distance isn’t much, you can do it to Sagat too. All reactions there.
Some footage would help a lot.
What do you mean you can’t win the fireball war? You need to slowly push him backwards into the corner with crouching medium kicks and focusing through tiger shots because if you jump you’re going to lose…That’s the real issue with Sagat. Throw as many fireballs and just neutral jump. Maybe jump short of being punished and try to bait a tiger uppercut, but if he’s good hes going to kara kick TU or use the spinning hard kick…But if you can bait it you/want to tastu him into the corner. Sagat can generally only keep going backwards, unless you arent doing your job properly by punishing a jump in or you eat too many ex tigershots. Obviously if you can get the timing and its predictable you can jump over the tiger shot and punish, pushing them into corner as well, but thats obviously risky and odds are, you wont have this option.
Assuming you get them to the corner…
Once in the corner cr.mk and hadoken is your friend for life. The reason hes using ultra 2 because it can counter tons of things with it. If you try a low sweep and he’s blocking he just punishes with ultra 2 (crazy right), so you need to be very weary of that. Never sweep a good sagat once they have ultra 2 or you will eat it. But if you’re good and any chance you get to punish, make sure to push them into the corner. The key is never to jump at them. If you notice someone like Daigo, he just does nothing. Sit in front of them in the corner and let them make a mistake + cr.mk them to death! Neutral jump is your friend at midscreen. Also, don’t be predictable with your fireballs. If you’re in his face, they shouldnt be able to react to your fireballs with U2 unless they’re psychic… Sagat can only zone you for so long. That said, its a tough match up and as the last poster said, works a lot on the fundamentals of Ryu. But once i learned never to jump and how to focus through the ground properly, it greatly improved my ratio in the match up and my overall skill as a player. This is one of the best match ups you can play to improve your overall game.
Good luck!!
P.S. Search online for Daigo vs Bonchan ft7. Should find some good fundamentals even though its from super.
I just mean you can’t make him come to you because overall he’ll send more hits your way. So it’s up to you to weave your way in and win with footsies.
Thanks. Yeah he won’t come to me. I’ve been fighting this guy since vanilla. Back then it was 6-4 in my favor. Now it’s the other way around. He’s really good at kara tiger uppercut and always does the RH spin kick. When I’m about mid range. I can’t seem to react to his low tiger shots. He’s really good at baiting punish and focus on them.
Whenever I try to get close, he uses standing LK and crouching FP to keep me away. He’s really good at teching throws.
IMO you should not throw too many fireballs vs Sagat. Just walk forward and block and use cr.mk when he is in range. Every time Sagat blocks a fireball at midrange he gets the positional advantage. Sagat is weak vs Ryu at footsie range (it’s a bit harder in the original AE though), so your goal should be to try to stay at that range for most of the match.
Ya, I mean be aware of when he has bar too right. But thats a given assuming you’re FADC through his tiger shots ne ways. But if you’re matching fireballs its not really an advantage for sagat as it starts forcing him backwards. As long as you dont just sit there all day in the middle of the screen. But it doesnt ever hurt to match fireballs unless he has ex. And you can do the same to get in if you know the fireball pattern.
just sit right outside his standing mk range
And then poke? I think c.forward won’t be able to reach at that range.
you can punish and stuff almost everything he does on this range with st.lp or st.hp…
you can move in and cr.mk and move out again.
you can throw FB.
you can whiff punish his normals with sweep.
you can make him very uncomfortable with this distance so he will be forced to jump, move back or tiger knee.
dont forget to block or focus thru the tiger shots. its never good to jump in unless he is throwing dumb fireballs.

How about tiger knee. He spams on that range. Then mind games if after I block it.
Do like MiKiking suggest. If suspect that he will tiger knee then do 2 standing jabs or lk’s. Those 2 normals work wonders. I believe it stuff tk
