SSF4 AE Akuma Match-up Thread

Yeah, it’s not impossible or anything, but since he can alter his landing with parry/divekick (even the slide I guess if he’s risking) you gotta adjust on the fly. That’s why I suggested that OS, to prevent him from landing at all - though yeah, answering with a Ultra is way better lol.

Edit: palm OS nj + EX Tatsu seems to work, and deals a very decent 1/5 health. Anyone wants to try and confirm this?

Should I give up on trying to stuff Makoto’s anti-air reversal? How much startup does that bitch of an anti-air have? I pride myself in stuffing Sagat’s and Ryu’s reversals, but Makoto seems impossible. Any ideas?

Any of you guys got some help on the Juri matchup? Swear down that bitch is the dumbest character to ever happen to this game. Her dashes are stupidly good, she just seems dash under me on wake and I surprisingly get hit by a cr.mk into one of them cartwheel things which do so much damage. I have to use Balrog to beat this Juri, I can’t do it with Akuma. I take too much damage and I can’t keep her out. Need some serious help, any guidance guys?

If she’s dashing Under you on wakeup, you’re not doing enough meaty safejumps and probably just going for dive kicks.

Safejump with DF palm, Juri has no answer to this since her counter thing is vulnerable to armor breakers. Her EX pinwheel reversal has something like 6-7 frames startup so it’s pretty easy to safejump.

Also, forget about throwing fireballs unless you’re either nearly full screen or doing a block string; her dive kick easily punishes them and EX dive kick lets her combo into Ultra or EX Pinwheel. I agree - she’s pretty annoying especially when the player is good with pokes.

Thanks for that. Yeah, she’s hella annoying, I got so salty today after losing. I bodied him after using Balrog because tbh he has quite a bit of health and GDLK pokes so I was able to keep her out. But it wasn’t so easy with Akuma. She’s like a female Adon with fireballs. Down right ANNOYING

I’m struggling against 3 characters: Ibuki, Bison and Vega. Any character specific tips or match-up advice? Zone, rush down, etc? These three are my bad match-ups in general (especially Bison). I could really use soem advice.

Aw, leave my Juri alone. I’m kinda surprised a Juri would force herself in on a Balrog that wanted to stay away. I’d have no problem zoning him with stores and store kicks.

I find it easy to get past the annoying fireball fuhajin things.

As for the matchups, it’s kinda hard to say. Vega I guess I’ve got much better at the matchup and once you can figure out his annoying walldive shenanigans you should be able to beat him. Don’t be fooled by his backflip teleport thing, a lot of people think it’s really good but it’s horrible. Don’t press your normal too early or else you can’t punish it, wait a bit till the animation ends then sweep him or w/e right away.

As for Ibuki, I like using U2 as I like to teleport out of the kunai mixups and if they do the ground slide to catch the teleport or w/e it is just activate U2, it works a lot of the time. I think I’m just gonna struggle against Bison for the rest of eternity. I can’t figure out for my life how to beat that character.

Someone tell me how to use the s.lk to avoid roses scarf shit. I can’t seem to get it. I get hit for some odd reason. I see the s.lk go off but then the scarf still hits me.

do you suggest staying in Ibukis face, zoning, etc?

I have no idea on that matchup tbh. I try to keep her away and get in do large bursts of damage, then get out again. Although I am really hopeless at blocking her kunai mixups.

Ibuki needs to as well. Just lost to 2 scrubby as fuck Ibuki’s and one SHIT Blanka, ran it back with Balrog against the Blanka and bodied him but them Ibuki’s pissed me off mad style. They just fucking spam them spin kicks and then them STUPID kunai mixups. Arghhh, Akuma is so sick against most of the cast but I struggle like hell against Ibuki, Bison and Blanka. I just don’t know how to fight them.

Yeah i would say my worst matchups are Bison, Viper and Ibuki, I also struggle a lot against good sakuras, seth, dudley, dhalsims. Oh and not to forget Yun. So yeah that’s a lot of the cast I’m bad against.
Blanka is annoying but you just have to get used to him. All he really has is the hop gimmick shit and the lp. roll into grab or electricity. Just learn to jab him out of his roll and hops and aa him. I usually tend to safejump everything against him. Bison is just a tough matchup because of his retarded safe pressure and the s.hk. I would say his s.hk is more of a problem than scissor kick since that also stuffs backdash after scissor kick sometimes. Its retarded.

Indeed. Sakura is pretty easy tbh, just gotta make sure you don’t eat a combo but she deals probably the most damage in the game. I’m surprised you have problems with Seth, just zone him out with air fireballs etc, but outside his st.hp range (stretchy limbs), he can punish a teleport with the st.hp but I’d take that over a Seth mixup anyway. Make sure you punish Seth fully, you have 2 meters don’t be afraid to FADC a fireball after a st.hp and go into fully BnB for gigantic punish.

Seth is most dangerous when he puts you in the corner IMO, teleport is a huge risk here because his wall jump will rape Akuma with a full combo. I like U2 a lot vs Seth now, since our HP DP can’t do shit to his HP DP, when you have U2 his SPD/SRK mixup won’t be so effective because you can cancel the teleport into U2 on reaction to punish whiffed DP, SPD or even tendon engine.

Now seriously, I just played some REALLY good Vipers, like really good ones. And she is FUCKED up boy. I never thought she was this bad lol. Them flame kicks, OMG and the damage, does each combo do like 400+ damage? Lol, as well as that j.hk crossing up, damn man, she is messed up. And her flame kicks not being punishable on block. WOW lol, how do you guys approach this character that belongs in Marvel and not SF? :stuck_out_tongue:

Viper is pure retardation because those burn kicks are way too safe. For how ambiguous they are they need to be punishable on block so people cant spam that shit with no risk over and over again. Its dumb.

Stop the bullshit seriously. There is a technique called focus backdash to deal with burning kicks. Do that once and you put her high disadvantage.
Her dmg output can be very high but it requires a fierce punch to connect which most of the time comes from a srk punish. Other than that her normals are just crap, cant play footsies and doesnt have good dmg with shorts. Her wake up is also pathetic, take advantage.

Viper really depends on the mindfuck imo and its enough that burning kicks are punishable with focus already…
