LOL! My worst matchups (by far) are Akuma, Dee Jay and Adon. Dee Jay I just hate the fact that once he has EX meter, you’re basically grounded and fireball-less (he can EX sobat through them from full screen). Adon’s just so weird of a character, I don’t really know how to approach him yet.
As for the mirror match… It’s just so pooppy!
Actually, learn to cr.MK under her Burn Kicks then you can punish with BnB. At certain distances, learn to AA with MP SRK her super-jump/burn kick attempts. After that, it’s just a matter of pressing her on wakeup with DF Safe palm setups and she’s toast. This is how I handle the scrub Vipers and it works.
well i dunno i’ve only fought a total of 2 viper players since ae dropped, probably one of the rarest matches I ever see but it gets dumb really fast. I find that you can’t really cr.mk too reliably under burn kicks because you still get hit sometimes if you do it too early. Its like trying to cr.mk rogs dash punch, your timing and spacing has to be spot on otherwise you eat his fist. I also find aaing kind of unreliable with srk, maybe i should stop trying to aa super jumps but my srk just ends up whiffing. Really hard to gauge the distance since they can easily change with with any burn kick.
akuma mirrors i always pick u2 to ultra them through jump forward air hados. EVERY akuma player I fought has fallen for that, not many people watch out for it…
As for dee jay, i only throw fireballs usually when he does if he has meter. Or build some meter of your own and ex flip him when he does it. Can’t really vortex him much though once he has meter on wakeup. Its kinda like blanka where you just rely on safe jumps or empty jumps when he has meter.
What are you guys doing vs Oni on wake up? His DP seems to have an upwards hit box that makes it more difficult/impossible to stuff in comparison to other Shotos. I’m pretty clueless right now as to how to get the vortex going vs him.
Well, after a f.throw or sweep he still has to guess between j.hk, empty jump and crossup tatsu. Yeah, you might get hit by his srk, but whatever, the odds are still heavily in your favour. You also gotta read your opponent, that’s the first key to success when using akuma.
You have to look for the Super Jump which gives her a wider jump arc which makes it easy to tag her with an AA SRK. Even if she tries to change trajectory with a burn kick, you’ll still (at the worst) trade with her. Of course, we’re talking about SCRUB Vipers who think they can just Super Jump from full screen and you’re gonna be all like “*OMG! What an amazing move!! I have nothing to counter it… Guess I’ll just stand here and take a burn kick to the face… *”. Once I have them scared to take the air, they mostly rely on seismos and knuckles to get to you. At that point, I look for a UT knockdown and then start DF Palm setups looking for them to Up Knuckle you on wakeup for a free BnB punish ending with a tatsu sweep. Which sets her up for another safe palm, etc.
Scrubby Vipers have no answer for this other than to mash reversal anything and pray your timing sucks.
Not necessarily. As long as they understand the properties of their specials, any scrub can cause problems with Viper. The problem with them isn’t that they’re any kind of good, but rather they’re unpredictable and they thrive in a laggy environment. Also, sometimes people just don’t have a clue on the matchup and even scrubby players who chose a character you have no idea how to manage can get a win over you.
Either way, it’s always good to have a place to start and what better way to build confidence in this matchup some may fear, than by beating scrubs?
I started using nj.hp/hk to smack them out of the air now, but you end up getting hit if they bk earlier than you can aa them. I guess I just need more practice on the matchup.
I will admit, the C. Viper matchup used to be a huge pain in the ass for me. Lucky for me, though, I no longer struggle in the Viper matchup at all. I just have to play the player.
Just practice not getting BK raped by cr.MK’ing on reaction. It’s not hard really. After the cr.MK, jab > jab > tatsu > sweep, then start your vortex game.
Vortexing Viper is interesting because you have to know what to expect as a reversal. Anything you can do, she has a way around it, unless you react accordingly.
Vortexing Viper Options
Crossup Tatsu > Sweep can get EX Seismo cancel grabbed. Beats out HP.TK
DF kick can get HP.TK’d if not put on top of her. If it trades, you’re more than likely to get U1’d or TK’d again. Stuffs EX Seismo if delayed.
DF grab gets fucked up by EX Seismo, be wary when using this. Unless you the Viper is going to attempt to block, rarely attempt this.
DF palm can be safe jumped, but I seem to go 50/50 with it. You’ll be safe vs EX Seismo, but TK may trade. I’m not sure, I’ll have to go to the lab and see.
Empty jump low short can bait out the EX Seismo, but punishes Viper’s who have been conditioned to block your shit.
You can safejump with DF palm like you would with any normal jump-in attack in the game, if timed properly it won’t trade even with a 4frame invincible reversal. HP TK is a 7f reversal so you have plenty of time to safejump it properly without trading.
Because if Viper Back dashes you eat a large punish. If she back dashes with EX Tatsu it catches her. Thus you cover more options with EX Tatsu than you do with LP SRK.
