Yeah, I guess I should’ve said that. I was just correcting the EX seismo vs LP DP situation. My bad.
Help against Adon? Once again one of the rarest matches I see which is why I’m clueless. There aren’t really any punishes for his JT other than reaction demon or srk, I am lost in this match because i’m losing to players who just spam jaguar tooth all day. Also his grab is kinda weird but its probably just me. I find that i don’t tech grabs as often against him than other characters. I can’t tell when hes gonna grab or won’t.
I’d like to know how you’re supposed to beat a turtling Sakura who just sits there waiting for the chance to take off 50% of your health off of a crouching forward. If she has a meter you can’t reliably footsie with her, and her crouching fierce seems to stuff every type of flip attempt. You can’t really “zone” her that well because she can easily dash or jump over the med - far air fireballs or any regular ground fireball. That’s not even including her hop either.
JT is pretty easy to deal with, normal and air jaguar kicks are the ones to worry about. Neutral jump mk works well for me vs both jaguar kicks and specially jaguar tooth, you can easily land a full combo if you guessed an incoming jaguar tooth and neutral jumped mk, this will absolutely rape scrub Adons who spam that move.
IIRC you’re a PC player and didn’t play SSFIV, trust me compared to the retarded fast wakeup time he had in SSFIV, he feels A Lot easier to deal with now.
Practice using far standing :hp: to stuff Jaguar tooth. The timing is weird at first, but it can stuff it clean and doesn’t leave you to a huge punish if they do a short tooth as a fake.
Jaguar tooth is the arc kick thing he does right? I keep getting them confused. I mainly have trouble with Adons spamming the shit out of that. the thing where he flies off the wall is pretty annoying too, not sure how to punish that either.
Nah, Jaguar Tooth is the wallbounce thing.
c.MK is your friend against Adon.
I would recommend for players if you are having trouble beating a move go down this rough “check list”
- Can I punish it on block? If no see 2
- Can I get out of the way of the move (Back dash and c.MK)? If no see 3
- Can I beat the move outright? If no see 4
- Can I focus out of the move? If no see 5
- Can I swear like a salior? If no see 6
- Can I throw my stick against the wall? If no money see 7
- No you can’t.
LOL awesome check list man.
When referring to this list when playing against a good Yun, skip to step 6.
fs. HP beats Adon’s Jaguar Tooth clean - start the move right when Adon’s about to leap off the wall.
Dunno where to put this, but GGs to C2Q yesterday during our Ranked Akuma mirrors.
Odd because the arc looks like a tooth which is why i figured it would be called jaguar tooth! haha.
Also ggs lockdown
You can never “reliably” play footsies with anybody. What is that meter doing for her? Letting her EX tatsu? Letting her FADC out of a blocked sho? Fine, let her waste that meter on your block and teleport out of pressure. If they’re fishing for c.mk, walk inside the range of that and walk back out real quick, whiff punish it. If that gets you hit, instead of walking in, just walk right next to the range of it and bait it out, try standing instead of crouch blocking, it makes your hurtbox smaller. Do that a couple times and you’ll open her up for some throws and counterhit setups… just general footsies. Sakura’s walk speed makes her pretty good at it, but take advantage of the fact that they might be overly aggressive since they don’t really care if they only catch your block. Fireballs aren’t really for dealing damage, if she’s jumping them and getting damage, she’s making some sort of read, bait the jump with a fake fireball s.lk or something, you have uppercuts. If she’s reacting to fireballs with jumps you’re throwing them from too close, if she’s reacting to them with otoshi, she’s putting her focus on that at least a little so you should have a bit of an easier time bullying her, the trick is to not be predictable so she can’t hit you with otoshi for free. Don’t just do flips at her in neutral situations cause c.hp will beat everything.
Sakura’s real strengths come when she gets you in her tatsu pressure, which you don’t seem to have “gotten to” yet in the matchup development department, you have to guess whether to DP after a blocked tatsu, or just backdash out, you can keep blocking, eating an overhead isn’t that big of a deal, so don’t panic when she hits you with the panty flash. She can also grab, and yeah it’s a guessing game and it’s rigged in her favor, but at least you have a DP, think about the other characters.
IMO these are the match ups I am starting to use U2 for. I am tiering them into “most important” to “least important”
Match ups where U2 is way better than U1
Rufus
Cammy
Yang
Viper
Match ups where U2 is prefered, but not required
Akuma (With U2)
Ibuki
Cody
Balrog
Match ups where either Ultra is equally useful
Akuma (With U1)
Yun
Zangief
Match ups where U2 is heavily inferior
Blanka
Bison
Chun Li
Dhalsim
Every other character is in the “whatever I feel like” category. Though U1 is my default when neither Ultra is above the other. This is just my own personal list for the moment.
I think you might wanna add the Abel matchup with those were U1 is a must/way better.
About the Akuma mirror, even if the other Akuma goes for U2 I think U1 is still good to go, to cancel normals and punish teleports when he’s no revenge meter (or simply to discourage them from doing it).
I think that U2 is the best one against Guy, he rapes our teleport for free and U1 doesn’t seem to help that much against him. I could only land it against those kick overhead which are pretty slow, and of course to punish EX Tatsu (but U2 should work there, with OS too I guess).
Why would recommend using U2 against Cammy?
1- She’s a dive kick character so U1 isn’t that useful as AA
2- She has many option selects to beat teleports (U1, SA and her knuckle move thing IIRC) , so U2 makes teleporting vs her a lot safer
U2 is not better in the Cammy matchup if at all. If you are not comfortable blocking Cammy’s pressure than U2 is preferred, However U1 is a devastating OS against Cammy when she wants to escape your pressure.
Yep I forgot about Abel. U1 is definitely better. For Guy U1 is actually quite useful against him because a lot of Guy players use that elbow drop. It is also a good punish for a couple of his antics. It keeps him honest.
You can use U2 to punish teleports in the Akuma match up. It is harder to do, but still perfectly possible. I was doing it last night. IMO I am starting to like U2 all around for the Akuma mirror match. Keeps U1 off of you, punishes Air fireballs, can be used to punish teleport, can be used to punish super set ups, etc. Though U2 does not stop the other Akuma player from following you and sweeping. U1 is still useful though when the other Akuma doesn’t have U2. Makes teleport punishes brainlessly easy.
I actually put Cammy in the wrong category. She was supose to be in my **“Match ups where U2 is prefered, but not required” **U1 is still useful against her just I am starting to prefer U2 since there seems to be several applications and having an escape can be helpful since she is more of a frame trap character now instead of an dive kick pressure type.
