I actually put Cammy in the wrong category. She was supose to be in my **“Match ups where U2 is prefered, but not required” **U1 is still useful against her just I am starting to prefer U2 since there seems to be several applications and having an escape can be helpful since she is more of a frame trap character now instead of an dive kick pressure type.

I can see that. Both ultras are very useful against her for different reason. I personally view them as equal in preference.

Yep I forgot about Abel. U1 is definitely better. For Guy U1 is actually quite useful against him because a lot of Guy players use that elbow drop. It is also a good punish for a couple of his antics. It keeps him honest.

I actually had trouble using U1 as an antiair against the elbow, since he can time it differently and bait you. Guess I should try it more…

You can use U2 to punish teleports in the Akuma match up. It is harder to do, but still perfectly possible. I was doing it last night. IMO I am starting to like U2 all around for the Akuma mirror match. Keeps U1 off of you, punishes Air fireballs, can be used to punish teleport, can be used to punish super set ups, etc. Though U2 does not stop the other Akuma player from following you and sweeping. U1 is still useful though when the other Akuma doesn’t have U2. Makes teleport punishes brainlessly easy.

I’m torn in that matchup, but I lean towards U2 when fighting better players, punishing backfist, arrow and U1 OS is damn good, if I am not mistaken U2 can now be used to punish blocked CS without teleporting too. U1 is still nice for focus, Cammy’s one is not bad.

Punishing Guy’s elbow with U1 is just a matter of practice. I usually just cr MK to avoid then cancel into U1.

Yeah that’s granted, it’s only that I’ve never actually practiced it against the elbow and the few times I tried against my buddy here with Guy he just timed the elbow differently, and I’d then Ultra too early… :E

Eita shows this off several times. It’s a little harder than U1, but you can still punish teleport happy Akuma players.

Heh actually c.MK is also your friend against Yun. It stops a lot of his antics clean. Goes under or beats Lunges giving you a free punish or frame advantage.

Quick question, thought it might be better suited to this thread. I’ve still got a long way to go with Akuma, only really just started. For the more experienced Akumas, how do you feel about shoto match ups, particularly Ryu ( and I suppose to a lesser extent Ken)? I’m not asking for match up advice per se ( altho some wouldnt go amiss ) i’m just wondering what your take is on the match? Do you dread seeing Ryu, assuming similar skill, or do you not find the him that intimidating?

Personally, I tend to get on edge a bit, knowing that SRK is only around the corner, esp when im goin for wake-up pressure.

Akuma has a corner unblockable after forward throw against both Ryu & Ken so that’s always a good thing (for us lol).

From what I hear mostly, Akuma vs Ken is 5-5 and Akuma vs Ryu could be in Akuma’s favor now (maybe 5.5/4.5 or 6/4) because Ryu got nerfed pretty badly from vanilla to AE (specially his cr.mk active frames which used to give Akuma a hard time during footsies).

I’m an average Akuma player though and have horrible footsies so to me personally both matchups are 5-5.

Frankly after the nerf to c.MK I don’t dread Ryu any more. The only one I have had any trouble with since AE dropped was Alex Valle.

Ken’s still annoying, but manageable.

Someone give me help on the Fei Long matchup before I go and chop somebody’s balls off.

Lol, just been playing some guy from Belgium, names Kenpachi and this guy was no joke. Had 5k PP and I was having some really good sets against his Fei Long. He was obviously a better player than me but I was taking him to the limit. I was playing the best I could but I think in the end Fei Long really fucked me up. So many times did I come close to beating him but Fei Long’s dumbass pokes and retarded damage with 2 bars did me over. How much damage is the chicken wing, hp, flame kick FADC chicken wing gonna do, that shit does like 400 or something damage, retarded.
Also he was punishing blocked sweeps with rekkas which then rendered that a useless poke and I was completely baffled. I tried the st.hk a few times but I think his cr.mp beat that clean, at one point I was just stuck in the corner blocking like 10-20 rekkas before I just got pissed off and mashed out an EX srk (which thankfully hit) but yeah, I need to know what to do. I remember Mike Ross saying you have to take baby steps against Fei and that’s what I was trying but damn man, the character is hella good. Any helps please, how should approach this matchup, the rekkas and his GDLK pokes are my biggest problem!

Sigh…really hoping for a Viper nerf in v 2012. Jesus fucking chrissssssssssst so many scrub vipers can pull off easy wins. Just lost to a guy who did seismo and bk all day and more than half the time all my fucking anti airs would get stuffed. Cr.hp doesn’t work, cr.mk gets hit if mistimed or if they delay the bk. Fuck viper.
