Well said. Everytime I face a decent Elf, I play like someone who just picked up the game and doesn’t know what the buttons do. I would have walked away myself as well.
This is my typical Elf match…profound sadness indeed
You are still my hero Warahk, I dont blame you, actually I was expecting you to come back from that ragequit and punch that elf player on the face :-P, j/k
Elf = bullshit
is there a specific character that owns elf? might as well learn him
Akuma does well against Elf (used to in Vanilla at least) but execution needs to be spot on. It’s the fact that Akuma can just teleport out of the Elf BS vortex without having to do the whole roll of the dice game Guile has to deal with. It’s not free by any means though
I remmember me playing an elf a while ago, after owning my guile I switched to zangief. I was getting out of his splash with that hand move he has. It was either hand or neutral jump 50-50. The good thing about zangief doing a neutral jump and him wiffing whaterver move is that you can Ultra reversal him. Again, it wasnt the best elf, and I am just a shit zangief but come on, any average elf can probably beat any good-expert guile.
I agree 100% >_<. I flail around like an idiot when im playing against elf.
Thanks man, i was waiting for major flames from these forums for my behavior. I just completely snapped, the first time I’ve acted like that in tourney, and the last. A lot of built up hate for that gimmicky character. I wasn’t mad at bucktooth, that guy is talented for sure (youtube his cvs2 stuff, AMAZING). Just mad at myself and feurte. I need to figure out this match before EVO or I’m fucked. As for what character is best for countering elf - U2 Rufus, or Akuma I think
@LAMERBOI - Thanks for the tips, and to everyone that has trouble with feurte, here is the video i think lamerboi was referring to in his post:
Warahk,
We actually have a pretty good Elf on our irc client who I think is from your area as well. I’m not sure exactly but I definitely know he’d be more than happy to help you with your matchup against Elf.
Edit: Just send me a pm and I’ll direct you on where to go.
Its all good Warahk. When i was watching the match i saw the look on your face and even said to myself “this dudes just gonna leave”. i felt the frustration man i thought i woulda probably forfeited that shit too. FUCK FUERTE
Good shit to Lamerboi i hadnt really seen you play man but very nice.
you know what helps
i visualize a big target on every ELF I run into and i pretend every ELF is Kai
and I repeat a mantra to myself
FUCK THIS ******
works like a charm
Here’s a question for Guile players. Can you see the difference between Fuerte’s tostada press and the tortilla propeller? They have quite different animations. I notice a lot of people getting mixed up by these. Once I learned what to look for, I did much better vs. his 50/50 mixup BS. Should I make a video that shows what to look for?
For the record, I think Fuerte/Rufus/Viper are the most retarded characters in the game. Fuerte especially, he doesn’t belong in SF.
I hate Fuerte too, but let’s be honest here. We are Guile users. Guile isn’t the funnest person to fight against either. How frustrating do you think it is when Guile is straight up laming people with his massive sonic booms. And I’m probably one of the lamest Guiles on the planet.
In either case, what helped me out with the Viper matchup, who has the same bullshit as Fuerte is realizing that she is a risk/reward character. She pretty much has to take risk, and really depends on you guessing wrong. Fuerte is even worse in this regard. He’s all about making you guess wrong and punishing you for it. It’s just as muc of a gamble for him as it is for you. The only advice I have is to space him out getting little damage here and there. And learning to guess right. To a degree you can react to his tostada presses, and many times they’re just crossups. Also watch his positioning, as a lot of his mixups are spacing dependent. From what I see, Furte is really good at making you flinch. Sometimes knowing his ranges make let’s you no sell his baits, and that will get in Furete’s head. Furete is really just a mind fuck opponent anyway. He’s more about scaring you into bad predicaments, and doesn’t have anything solid. Just stay mentally strong, and don’t panic when he starts his bullshit. Furetes who can’t make you panic lose a lot of their game. Also if you’re in a situation when Furete has no meter and you’re close to him, just rush his ass to kingdom come. He really can’t do anything. Throwing him upon his wakeup is good too, as many of them will try to wake up[ with a splash or something else ridiculous. A lot of times you can throw him out of the startup of his run. remember, Fuerte really don’t want to give up damage. Damage him gradually, turtle, and block whatever you can.
Yes, we would love that video, slow motion and shit, lol. I struggle against elf, viper and akuma. any videos on that are soo welcomed
-Tortilla Propeller always starts with a backflip and can only be done off of his back run. It hits crouchers.
-Tostada Press can be done off of a forward or a back run. And if spaced right he can cross it up. The thing to look out for, imo, is that he cries out Tostada when in the middle of his arc. When you hear it, FA or backdash out!
-Fajita Buster looks exactly the same as Tostada Press (has the same startup and animation). The only difference between Fajita Buster that I’ve noticed is that Elf doesn’t scream anything out. It’s just a silent jump. Fajita Buster is a high only grab move so you can basically duck it out. Oh, and Fajita Buster can only be done off of Elf’s forward run.
please do gilley! and now that you have mentionedit i always thought they looked the same. just usally involving random jumps or dash backs.
good job to both lamerboi and warahk no matter what you guys be repping guile!
Here’s a bit of creativity. Albeit with risk included.
Crouch tech with df.hk.
Methinks the risk/reward ratio is better than it was in vanilla due to a slightly better hitbox and the flashkick followup.
LOL this is rather interesting, im gonna have to test this out hahaha, 2 thumbs up for creativity

Me versus #1 US Claw on PSN (#3 worldwide).
Pretty good play there. That one crossover ultra into sonic boom loooks like it should be in a bloopers clip. That shit was hillarious. That dude has a pretty ass Vega though. He seemed really average at best. Too many wall dive attempts. More solid Vega’s don’t do as many blatant wall dives because they are way too easy to see and punish on reaction in SFIV. He’s basically giving up free damage everytime you block one. He also tried too much gimmicky shit like crossover with that df+HK. He didn’t take advantage of Vega’s annoying ground game and pokes. And when he did use the wall dives, he used them for an actual attack and not an evasive manuever. Either he didn’t know the Guile matchup, or online play has got him in a lot of bad habits. It can happen online. I noticed he plays similarly to a lot of online Vegas who just wall dive all match like morons.
but from your end, just solid play all around. Good defense, good punishment. A bit of airthrow fishing, but I think we’re all guilty of that.
