Man, LAMERBOI is really missing out by not using s.mp as AA vs. Rufus. It’s gdlk.
Regardless, excellent matches.
I dunno about you guys, but whenever I play a Rufus, I can kinda sense the dive kicks coming, and I air grab some of them

Shinji (Guile) Vs HutchUSA (Seth) finals from our local ranbat here in the UK
Unfortunately, if Rufus has you in a divekick lockdown, you won’t be able to air grab. =(
Agreed and don’t even think about FA because his silly short poke is so fast, FA doesn’t do anything but get you hurt.
Block high>low on reaction, watch for a grab and be patient. Rufus up close is scary business for Guile
I tried using it once, s.mp, but i failed terribly, I never really got the chance to train with Ricky too much so I didn’t feel too comfortable using that normal for anti air, and the timing for it could be tricky at times. I just hesitated on that normal and tossed it out of my gameplan due to inexperiences on it’s uses lol. I had a lot of opportunities to play air to air with him after watching the videos, but I guess because I was afraid of ultra 2 that I just didn’t jump almost at all against him, it was stressful =(
If you had done FK > FADC backwards > SH you would have beaten him. You had several opportunities to do it. Good shit on the tourney though. I think we all need to make it a mission to learn that combo. I still can hardly do it.
Thanks! And yeah…early in the tournament , i couldn’t pull it off against decent-average players, so I told myself not to even try to attempt it around justin or other high lvl players and just keep it simple since my execution wasn’t at it’s best that day, so instead, I just did the battle for spacing lol.
One thing I have noticed about Big Bang Typhoon is that if you cross Rufus up and he activates it on wakeup, you don’t get sucked in as usual, but take one hit and bounce over to the other side of him, leaving him stuck in the animation and leaving you free to do as you please to him. Maybe someone like Justin wouldn’t fall for it but a potential way to make someone waste their Ultra may come in handy in the future
you still did really well regardless bro! nice work :clapdos:
ya, the FK > FADC backdash to SH is still tricky to pull off and I still havent been able to do it consistently. Most will only succeed in giving themselves the sapacing needed when dash cancelling the flashkick.
Lamerboi(Guile) Vs Kai (El Fuerte) 01:17:55 ish

I like my brother’s commentary about me, it’s on point, he knows what’s on my mind lol, and i really do hate this matchup with a passion, i really do, and also, we don’t have any high leveled el fuerte players up in nor cal =/
I was so happy when i saw this match on Sat. There’s nothing more satisfying than watching a Fuerte player (who thinks their stupid tricks are working) end up losing. I hate Fuerte with a passion, and I strongly dislike people who play Fuerte. He’s a stupid character that has to rely 100% on gimmicks and he doesn’t really feel like he belongs in the SF universe.
Anyway, great job Lamerboi. This Fuerte match, and your match against Wong, were the highlights of the tournament.
Hey Lamerboi, you probably know by now, but you shouldn’t do the cr. fierce + crouch tech option select against Rufus’s dive kicks. Because Justin noticed you were doing this and just blocked the fierce that came out and punished you. That thing is even punishable on hit.
You should rather just do cr. strong + crouch tech option select. The strong maybe a little bit less effective against dive kicks compared to fierce, but at least it’s safe if Rufus doesn’t do one.
Good job overall though.
it’s still worth doing, just not 100% of the time. Guile’s c.strong tech is pretty crappy against rufus =[, it’s no where near as effective as ryu’s
EDIT: Lamerboi i was very impressed with your guile. Your spacing is awesome. You make the balrog match look completely free.
Thanks Warahk
Im sorry for rage quitting NCR, i should’ve at least played the rest of the tournament. i was just too frustrated/embarrassed with my match with bucktooth. As soon as i heard i had to play him i knew exactly how it was going to play out. I talked to justin and a bunch of other people before the match for advice/tips. I have never even played rufus against elf before, but i didnt know what else to do.
I knew i would beat his ibuki, and i knew he would switch to elf. And i knew he would body my guile with elf.
Any advice you have in that match up would be greatly appreciated. I swear i just hold random directions and press shit in that match. FUCK FEURTE.

As for Fuerte matchup, i watched Dieminion’s match against a good fuerte and learned the defensive options needed depending on the movement Fuerte makes.
This is assuming you’re on your wake up game:
If El fuerte runs backwards, he can do the tortilla grab move/splash: Defensive options - Jump back/backdash decreases your chances of getting hit from both tortilla/frontal splash, rather than doing FA/FA back/forward dash/flashkick.
IF El fuerte runs forward, he could slide, splash, or do the grab move if you’re standing up: Defensive options: no guarantees but… FA backdash/forward dash gets u away from splash, if FA forward dash on his slide, you can probably tech his throw, but FA backdash he’ll throw you before you can recover in time. Regular back dash (no FA) gets you away from frontal splash and the grab move.
But I’m pretty sure there’s more to this matchup, so I just concentrate on reducing the odds of getting hit and I try to stay grounded as much as i can just in case he tries to catch me on my jumps with his anti air move.
I basically learned some parts of the matchup watching Dieminion’s video for sure, since there are no El fuerte at Kai’s level in my area.
As for the matchup against Rufus, crouching throw+fierce punch I feel is very reliable compared to c.mp+tech., I knew I was getting punished, and I wanted Justin to know that I’m ready for his divekicks anyday so I spammed it out for awhile, but of course, I switched it here and there to c.tech+strong. Just know if c.tech+strong whiffs, he’ll divekick and combo you for over 1/4 of your life and gains a huge space advantage, i’d rather eat jab into ex. tornado at times. It’s a guessing game vs rufus as guile, but you just gotta make more right guesses.
THE BAD if these moves whiff or get blocked while getting divekicked by Rufus
C.strong+tech - Punished with Divekicks into combo/target combo into ultra
C.Fierce+tech - Punished with jab-ex tornado
Flashkick - You already know
Standing FP - Punished by counter hit/thrown
Just gotta be creative on the defensive end.
I hate the ELF match so bad. It’s by far the one I have the most trouble with. You can’t do shit except hope you guess right on knock down. If you throw booms he just tostada’s over them. If you block tostada you gotta hope he was close enough for you to hit him after which rarely happens. That damn slide of his recovers so fast as well. Just an annoying matchup, because he nullifies guiles ass cheeks flashkick =/. .
