SSF4 AE 2012 Guile Video Thread: Return to Respectability

I don’t mean that Guile’s best range is full screen.

Guile’s optimal range is just slightly outside of his poke range, or at the range where c.hp will hit an empty jump, to around 3/4 screen cos he can choose from his array of AAs. At least in most situations and matchups. Try to crouch and boom at that distance instead of walking back and boom.

Guile’s heavy pokes and f.mk,c.mk/c.mp, even c.lk/lp are very liable to be FA crumpled so don’t just do them when in range. I think you should bait and create openings and punish more and tone down the ‘lucky’(excluding frametraps) dmg game and mix them up.

ok  so I took yoru advice tried to play without flash kicks last night. still ended up doing a few - there are spots I use them to punish so i thought it was a bit silly to not do them in those situations.

man you have to react so fast with AA buttons! i changed my mindset into having the buttons ready as soon as the boom releases. i got some good AAs in though sometimes i got very flustered and couldnt think about what button to use in time. on the bright side i did begin to make mental notes of from what spacings i need to use what buttons.

baiting is huge basically a lot of it comes down to having a good fireball game to back up your AA if you throw bad booms you cant AA. finding it hard to make good decisions close up, i think i need to utilize focus and dash more at st FP / FK range instead of just going to those buttons + booms every single time.

never realized i was walking back after the booms thx for pointing that out

I played a Gouken last night and he was stuffing my lmk with his sweep like mad. About 12 games of Endless Battle and I only won 2. He was 2k PP…I’m around 1200 right now

Do you guys have any twitch channels you recommend that play Guile from time to time?

I don’t know about Twitch, but look up user brainstem46 or finelikewine49 (same account) on youtube. He has an ongoing series of using Guile online, and he discusses strategy. He is also a tourney player, and he’ll dub in his comments on the tourney footage if he can. It’s very good.

XupyourgameX on Twitch plays Guile, but he usually is broadcasting other matches. I haven’t seen him broadcast a lot of his own. Very possibly he does but I just haven’t caught it.

I won’t play while I"m streaming. Causes unwarranted lag and input delay. Unfair to both me and the player.

Yeah. I’ve always wondered how folks play online while streaming. They must have ridiculously high Mbit upload.

Equipment I guess? I don’t know. I run on 50/120 and still get latency. lol

50 up??? Damn. I have 2 up at home, haha.

Just made a new thread for Ultra

I like this costume All 22 colors

I can beat this character what am i doing wrong against him though? i noticed my main issue is NOT standing my ground so i know i need to work on that…but he was jumping over my booms easy and i couldnt punish him for it…help?

I wanna say you’re just doing too much stuff. I like the activeness and non-robotic play but In the neutral game you sonic boom then press like 5 normals for… well not much return. st.hp or sobat maybe but you do like 3 st.mp in a row which does nothing but a) make you vulnerable to sudden attacks, and b) occupy your character so that if Hugo really jumps at that moment you can’t react appropriately. Use more st.mk or pull a bit further and use stepkick or backfist anti-airs, High Kick is a kind of a gamble if your goal is to keep him off. You rarely sonic boom and simply wait patiently for him to jump over. From further ranges, you can flash kick punish forward jumps over boom (use delayed sonic boom) but not if you are standing up and pressing a billion things. I think this carries into why you take so much damage when Hugo finally gets in because it seems like you’re press things during his pressure string. Notice that each time he starts giving you the clap pressure, you block block block then either suddenly start eating damage or do a risky reversal ultra/FK. Maybe just need to remain calm and pick your escape timing more carefully. On the other hand, Alucard is ridiculous lol.

vs omh

Can someone break these combos down on paper? (Write em down)Would appreciate it.

Here’s some people playing around with Omega mode. At around 54:00 in this video you see Guile wiff a knee bazooka, then immediately do a FK. I’m not really sure what capcom is changing to let Guile do this. Either there’s very short charge time on FK now, a large input window(like super/ultra), or there’s charge partitioning.

Being able to do those combos or any for that matter in the training room is nice and fine but it’s all pointless if you never go for them in actual matches.

Cancelling sweep into super hits in Omega.

Close St.HK Vs Rolento is soooo good. lol
